Pets in college
I was just reading this story and didn't realize that several colleges allow pets in dorms. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the animals aren't left wandering around, making messes, noone sharing your room is allergic or being abused/neglected. Heck, the animals might make less messes than the parties in college! :p I was wondering how many colleges out there actually allow animals and any thoughts on this from those of you in dorms or going to be in dorms. Have any of you considered, or wanted to but it isn't allowed, to bring an animal to live with you in a dorm?

I couldn't bring my pet piranha to RIT :( They discriminate against carnivorous fishes.

Re: Pets in college
You can bring fish here, although the size of the aquarium is left up to the judgement of your RA.
Someone brought a turtle and had to send it home. |
Re: Pets in college
You can have as many fish as you want...no small sharks though.
But you can have plants. (WPI - cory forgot to state that) |
Re: Pets in college
At USC, it's a 20-gallon fish tank. That's it. (My batting average with them stinks, so I remain fishless.)
But the principal here in Preston (think faculty who has a whole house in a chunk of the building) has a dog. But I guess he paid the cost to be the boss. And the dog's cool. <tangent>Since one of the requirements to live here is that you have to attend dinners 2/3 of the time Monday through Thursday, I got curious one day and asked him why the dog never attended dinners--after all, the dog does live in Preston. He responded that it eats at Preston twice a day every day.</tangent> |
Re: Pets in college
We aren't "supposed to" have pets according to our housing lease.... however, no one ever checks our apartment. Last year for a week one of my roomates had her dog stay with us. Another apartment had a cat living there for about 4 months. One had a baby goat for quite some time. We had fish when we first moved in, but mine ate the other two and then he died. :( This year we have been putting in a full Tiki Lounge with a beach, etc. ..... and we have a Lizard. :p
[edit] Currently we spend all of our time getting "Pet" entertainment from my robotic sweeper - we chase him around the apartment getting giggles and grins from watching him run into things, glide under the stove, and so carefuly avoid the stairs. :] [/edit] |

Re: Pets in college
I don't think I could get away with my dog living in a dorm with me (when I go to college). He weighs about 150 pounds and is the most energeticthing ever. :ahh:
