Hooray for Hurricanes... :(

In Brevard county many people are still trying to recover from Francis. A lot of property damage on the coastline. Anything west of A1A did alright. Just massive power outages, which means that all lights down are treated as a four way stop sign. A few people just kept on going, and in short gives more chances for car accidents.

I lost power for two days, but I had a generator so it was not too bad. And the only property damaged I had received was a loss of one shingle. I guess I was lucky.

Good luck to all near Tampa and the pan-handle.

um I'm not completely sure but I think Jeb signed something to say we don't have to make up the days of school we missed. (hopefully)

See what's great about earthquakes in California as opposed to hurricanes in Florida is that hurricanes destroy everything whereas earthquakes don't (not after the 1994 Northridge quake). See, nowadays the building codes in LA are at such high standard that any time an earthquake comes, I look forward to it because everything shakes like a thrill ride, but nothing falls down or breaks. Plus I'd rather have a dry shake than a wet blow, from a hurricane that is.
What about tidal waves??

Tidal waves are all washed up. (rimshot)

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. :D

Personally, I'd take an earthquake over a tidal wave. In an earthquake, I can get in a door jamb or under a good desk and ride it out. In a tidal wave, my problem becomes water. And too much water too fast (especially in downtown Columbia, which tends to flood just a smidge when it rains hard) creates, IMHO, a much more dangerous thing.

Tidal waves are the waves that wash up against the beach all day and night. Earthquakes cause tsunamis.

The last time 3 hurricanes hit florida the same year was in 1964. According to one of the newspapers (either stuart news or palm beach post, don't remember which one i cut it out of it), "...Researchers say the current trend of heightened hurricane activity could last for another 10 to 30 years." That means that Florida is in big trouble! I'm just hoping that all that construction they've made me sit through for the last year in a half really pays off!!

Oh yeah, does it feel like midnight to anyone else?!?!? My dad said we're leaving all the shutters up incase that sucker comes this way, and I don't blame him....

And thus one warm summer night the state of Florida was suddenly swallowed into the ocean like Atlantis and tales soon formed about lost cities like Orlando and Palm Beach.

:Dcouldn't resist:D

What I've been hearing about my online friend in FL...

"She is working miracles again and her and one other volunteer were flying 166 critters to Atlanta, GA Sunday A.M. She organized a caravan of volunteers to shuttle the critters to the airport, captured a pilot and plane and they were off! She was going to play it by ear on whether or not to fly back to Florida that night or hang out in Atlanta til Ivan blew itself out."

"Clearing out the Sarasota shelter in order for them to assist the critters in the harder hit areas by finding places out of state AND putting together a foster program in 4 (YES, FOUR)days"

It's Jeanne, but Another or The Next One should work. :)

however it looks like it will turn around before getting near Florida, but knowing this past season, I wouldn't count on it. :ahh:

Not yet a hurricane, but could be by this weekend.

I officially invite all floridians to move to California, no hurricanes at all, and here in Palmdale there's no rain either, just the occasional dust-storm.
Hmmm.... I can move to the Northeast which faces the threat of earthquakes and possibly a giant tidalwave. I can move the central part of the United States which sits underneath an active volcanoe and deal with the threat of tornadoes. I can move to the west which faces fires, earthquakes, and a drought.
