UNIVERSAL Emulation? WHAT!?!?!

Slashdot and a few others are running a story about a software company that has created a complete emulation of programs on any system, and there would be little performance hit. Now, their demo was Doom III on a Powerbook, but it was the Linux port, so it's a good chance they just went into Unix and messed around with it a bit.

Here's the link....

That is really interesting.

It could save a company money by making one version of a game and including the emulator software, depending on the cost of the emulator. But then again, most game companies are only making Windows games, so it would only appeal to Mac and *nix users and Windowers that like Mac and *nix games. At least that might save Linux games from the almighty power of rm-rf. (Format command)

That's awesome. However, since this emulator would grant universal access for all software, COULD that mean that a virus could be executed on a windows, mac and Linux ran machine? Otherwise, I can safely become a Mac user now.

Re: Don't get your hopes up

I hate to say it, but I don't think that this is anything special. Projects like Darwine have been around for a while, that do the same thing. Basically I suspect it can run notepad and minesweaper, and that's basically it. The problem is that complex programs, say like Solidworks uses many APIs and so forth that it probably won't support. Also it seems like the only conversion from an X86 to PPC was a Linux to a mac, which are Unix like OSes.

Here is something that is very intresting. It says it can run Mac OS X on Windows at 80% speeds. I think that this is a scam, but several news sites are running it. Here is a product manual with some screenshots. They look bogus though.

What do you think?

If this is real, I'll but it and get a Tiger ISO and install it. Hopefull it works, but I'll wait and see for when ArsTech reviews it, thank you. :)
