Re: Who Am I pictures

The baby picture thing.. That's directed at me isn't it??

But look at the picture of when I was in 5th grade, and look at me in real life now.
(Not much difference:ahh: )

Anyways.. I'll post a new pic before the season starts and I start attending big competitons again so you can all identify me and not come up to me and say hi..
:sigh:

I agree, I do like looking at older pictures of people.

Limit WAI picture changes to once every three months or so. People change, but usually not so much as to be unregonizable in less then three months.

That's basically what I was trying to get at. I would suggest that the uploading limit be a "soft" limit. If someone just joins, and uploads a webcam picture of themself because that is the only one availible, and then gets a better one, they shouldn't have to wait 3 months. But, I do think that in most cases a limit should be enforced.

Re: Who Am I pictures

My take in this is that I don't see the need for people to be posting Who Am I? pictures every month or so because how many people look so completely different in just a month period? I know I don't and I don't think anyone else does. And for that matter let's say you have posted a picture of yourself in Nov. and the next competition or FIRST event that you will go to is in April or so, if you look different by April then post a current picture of yourself at that time not every month since Nov.

As far as baby pictures go, I know that I could not recognize a person from a picture that they or some one else took of them some 15+ years ago. And group pictures? ... Well I'm not going to tell anyone to not post them but I don't think that the title Who Am I? relates to a group of people (group = plural; I = singular ;) ). So if you do decide to post a group picture ... first make sure that you point out exactly WHO you are and second make sure that we can see YOU (I have found that often in group pictures, if there's several people I can't really single anyone out and look at that particular person well).

Anyway, I digress, I definitely don't think that this is an issue that should make people upset or offended (not saying that that has happened) but it should be moderated so that everyone is more or less pleased.
Ultimately, I always try to make sure that a decision is made so that everyone is happy (which of course almost never happens) but I think it could happen in this case and well its worth a try. :)

Just my humble opinion!! :o

Remember that you have a avatar that you have more leeway with. That is suppost to be the robot picture/random things.

These are both very good points. I think that when using the "Who-am-I?" Gallery, people really should be able to recognize you at an actual competetion. If you would like a baby picture or something, remember that an avatar can also be uploaded from your computer (take a look at my cat avatar, for example). To make things easier, perhaps when you upload a picture to the gallery you could select if you want it as either the avatar or the "who-am-I" area at the top of your posts, but that could turn into a lot of work for the moderators...just a thought. (or just throw in a bunch of links to your pictures in your signiture)

What if someone got on your screen name and posted your "Who I am" picture for you while you were in a different state?

Ha, I'll change it once I get a good pic of me. I am normally the one behind the camera and not in front of it, but I have a couple of ideas.

Oh yeah, I changed my password since then. ha ha.

I'm sure if you ask nicely enough, Brandon will change it to your old picture. http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pi...&quiet=Verbose

Re: Who Am I pictures

The whole point of a who-am-i picture is to be able to meet people. Chiefdelphi is not just here to be a message board of information, I've met a lot of my friends because of CD. In fact, if I didn't have something to go by, I don't think I'd know half of them.

I do think though, that when Halloween comes around a picture like that is okay for a while, but don't make it permanent. Sure, I agree with aignam, you should be able to have a bit of fun, but what fun is it for the people who have NO idea what you really look like and want to meet you?

Besides, it's a great feeling to have someone come up to you and say 'oh, aren't you so-and-so?" How many people on this board actually thought they'd be recognized from someone halfway around the country? Try it some time ;)

That's just my $0.02. And it's good to be back. :D

Disagreeing with some of you, and agreeing with others, but my idea of a good Who Am I picture is something that shows your personality or atleast some way to connect your face with your words. Take myself for example, I enjoy joking around, having fun, outdoor activities, such as fishing. Hence my Who Am I picture. I know the picture is not flattering, and I know that it may not easy to recognize me from the picture, but i feel that my who am i picture best represents me currently. I wouldn't want the past Who Am I pictures deleted, i enjoy going through the past pictures looking for my friends, or even my old picture.

I agree that it is cool when people recognize you from your picture, but i don't think it needs to be a requirement that a mug shot is put up for the who am i just so that Suzie Q can recognize me at the next regional.

The rules of who am I pictures:

The first rule of the who am I pictures is: You do not talk about the Who am I pictures.
The second rule of the who am I pictures is: YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE WHO AM I PICTURES!
The third rule of the who am I pictures is: If a who am I picture taps out, this thread is over.
The fourth rule of the who am I pictures is: One person in a picture, fellas.
The fifth rule of the who am I pictures is: No shirt, no shoes, no picture
(et cetera, ad infinitum)

Let's relax a little. It's just a little photograph, It doesn't actually steal your soul - that's just a myth.

Just carry a trout around at Nats and we shouldn't have any problem reconizing you! :p
In the mean time, I'm going to try to figure out if there's some way I could carry my Mustang around without getting a hernia. :p

I don't see a big deal with the WAI pics as long as they're kept somewhat current and you're in it somewhere so we all have a chance of reconizing each other at comps. There's a lot of people on here that don't have WAI pics and I could stand right next to them and not even know who they are.

Re: Who Am I pictures

I agree with different points from each of these posts. As much as I would love to see pictures of everyone on here from every thing they do, we have to be considerate of CD47 and their web server costs.
Maybe we should have 2 or 3 pictures for the WAI section. When you post a new one and it's accepted to the album, you choose one to get rid of.
Also, if there are a lot of people (or even just 2) in the picture, please tell which one is you...no matter how dorky (see my WAI pic)
I think that as long as you're in the picture, it shouldn't matter what you're doing (within reason X|), or who you're with. The purpose of the WAI is so that people CAN ID you at a comp, or maybe at Krispe Kreme after the day's festivities are done. :) my 2 cents.

Hey Ben - there are 2 faces in your who-am-I picture; which one is you? :D

I would hate to think that who-I-am is equal to what-I-look-like; I hate to break it to you but based on these pictures I'm not sure I would want to show up at another web hug. As a group we belong to a pretty scraggly bunch of robot addicts (with a few very good looking exceptions - feel free to include yourself in this category if your vanity requires it). Last web hug I don't think I recognized anyone until they came up to me and said "hi Gary, I'm _______", at which point I immediately picked up the resemblance.

I love the personality part of the pictures; it's what helps me get to know "who-you-are". I'll forever picture Brandon standing on a street corner with his guitar case open collecting donations, and if I run into a guy on a snow covered volcano I'll check to see if he has a Hawaiian shirt under his parka. As you can see from my picture I'm the typical stoic, pocket protector engineer. I'm sure there needs to be some limits on the frequency of changing pictures, but I really enjoy seeing new ones pop up. I feel like I get to know the people better by seeing what they're into doing.

Re: Who Am I pictures

the baby picture thing was a cool thing that never really caught on I mean it was only elgin and me. anyways. i think the who am i picture should be whatever you want people on the forums to identify you by. and if that changes change it I admit theres lots of abuse on that but its kinda cool to look at the who am i gallery and sort by username Then you can see all the pictures people have uploaded in chronological order and kinda gives you a window into their madness you can see how someone has changed over the years and how they view themselves. That i think should be free to put any picture you want on there as long as its decent and of course with multiple people in a picture captions are necessary if You encounter that theres nothing wrong with a polite PM to ask if they can elaborate on there who am i picture. I mean after all There is an edit button.
