Genuine Lavery game hint??

I haven't seen anyone take note of this post:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...106#post290106

"Life is short. Eat dessert first."

hmmm, I think I know what this means - But I don't want to speculate...
What do you think?

Ooh.. is the long awaited clown game finally going to emerge from the ashes of the drawing board's garbage pile and reign supreme?

I think it means we'll have to start in a precarious situation. Like starting on the bar this year.

<edit>I've got an idea...

Hey Dave! I've got a dozen Krispy Kremes at Kickoff (assuming I go--here's hoping--if not, somewhere else) if you'll post a hint about the 2005 FRC game as a caption contest entry.

Surely he can't resist the Kremes.</edit>

Ya-it sounds like a working backwards type deal, or maybe some type of really slick "ice" like surface. Or having to grab one object from a high point on the field, like where a cherry would be.

Or maybe Dave just likes ice cream better than meatloaf. :p

and reading possible evidence from the wiki, I have come up with the following conclusion: Considering that the use of a colon in the challenge title usually infers a sequel of some sort, next year's challenge may have to do with the juggling of balls in some odd, weird, and technically difficult way. This year's challenge was 'raising the bar' in FIRST robotics and perhaps they'll go further. As usual, we'll never know until release date.

My vote is that human players in the 2005 game's responsibility is to dig the robot out from underneath a giant ice cream sundae. That is my official interpretation of that "hint" lol.

In which case, I would immediately petition FIRST to allow college students to be human players! ;)

If you rearrange some words, it would say:
Life is first ( :) ), Eat dessert short

So maybe human control is shorter?

Exactly what I was thinking, when combined with the blatent comments about needing to use IR this year for auton that were made at last years kick-off it starts to add up.

this is what I thought of when I heard this, but it could just be Dave giving us a red herring

Is there any songs about Red Herrings? You never know, last year he had a song about stairs... :-p

There's one song I can think of ...

Fake*
Busted

Don't wanna be a fake
Lets start again
Cos this pain might be a red herring
Standing at the finish
And theres no way
We're ever gonna be okay

... that doesn't sound very encouraging!!! ;)

*= Be advised, that the rest of the lyrics to this song aren't very ... family friendly. Search for them at your own descretion.

Going back to the "Life is short. Eat dessert first." thing ... did anyone notice, when the letters are rearranged, you get:

"FIRST stifles tread theories."
"FIRST foiled the air tests."
"Fated, shiftless territories."
"IF rises. Test stairs threefold."

Hmmm ... :ahh:

Herrings? What herrings?

Nope, I don't see any red herrings.

A CLUE STEVE, A CLUE!!!!! We're starting at the end!!!

Well, not really, but it'd sure be hilarious if there was :-p.

*Note: I have younger cousins I used to babysit who used to watch Blue's Clues, I never watched it by my own willing ;-)

Maybe the clock will count up, an not down, so we might not have a set time limit, sorta like the game in 01. Just a thought.

I also ran spell check on this post, and "sorta" did not come up as an incorrect spelling.

Album:
Happiness...Is Not A Fish...

Song:
Happiness & The fish

There is a juggling club brand called radical phish. When combined with the cooncidence of the juggling comment, we can surmise that juggling clubs will be a scoring object.

Dave,

I hope you are enjoying all these speculations, and all these people hanging on every word of yours.. Cause I know I would be if I were in your position.
And I would play it out to the very end too. :)

Oh Elgin, please, you know as well as the rest of us that he's bluffing us, or setting us up for a bluff, and the way he does it we're at a complete loss until January :-p. Even if he does tells us anything of any value, he spurts for so many, well, red herrings, that it just gets lost in the noise that we all make. So, the real trick would be to ignore Dave, until he feels so alone that he's willing to tell us anything so that we'll talk to him again.

Of course, the chances of everyone ignoring Dave for the next 3 months seem rather slim ;-).

I have learned that Dave Lavery is an evil individual, so i dont even take his hints as hints.... but then again he did say somthing to me about not being able to goto blockbuster and rent a video... so maybe thats what our robots will have to do this year, drive to the local blockbuster and rent really bad scifi movies and bring them back.... autonomusly and of course the human players job would be to make sure they are rewound

Dave, you need to watch what you say, at this point in the year, every single word you say will be taken as a game hint. If i were you, ide gety a restraining order against all FIRST participants

Except that then he'd have to get a restraining order against his own son.

(And, presumably, his food-tester. Did you ever fill that position, Dave?)

FIRST has a hard enough time staying on schedule as it is, with relatively rigid time limits. Imagine the nightmare that would happen if every match was a different length... :ahh:

I'm hoping with all of my heart that autonomous will NOT be at the end of the match. That would be a nightmare for us programmers.

Besides...why believe Dave? We all know that he likes toying with us, and this is awfully early for game hints...

the offsite link of that immage leads to

Red Herring Morris

Red Herring Morris is a mixed morris dance team,

witch leads me to belive that the new robots are going to require some grasefull movement like mabye doing the tango with a mobile goal, or another robot

Is that Morris, as in Morrison. Amanda Morrison? Andy Morrison?? I think those two are up to something....

Re: Genuine Lavery game hint??

i also took a look at John neun Sr.'s posts, All 2 of them and this jumped out at me " I will quietly take my place among his adoring minions" the only thing i can draw from it is robots joining presence with us adoring students. along with that red herring thing that sounds to me like...

the robot atonomusly cooperating with humans to complete tasks here is an example... http://www.plyojump.com/movies/hrp/H...elassembly.avi

lets say im in need of assistance with this hanging this piece of drywall up. so i have my robot help me by holding it in position whil i drive scrwes to fasten it to the wall.

I'm up for building a race track around the field perimeter of the Georgia Dome.
Dave's refering to a kid crushed by a pile of balls... maybe while the robots race around they have to go through some obstacles. Or jump ramps and other fun stuff.

I have two things to say to this:
1. I will be going to the Science Museum of Virginia next weekend.
2. I have figured out the game, and it is that desert is important, ergo our robots will compete to make the most luscious of confectionary treats this year in order to find the truly best desert on earth. And hopefully it will involve bavarian cream...

ok, i'm delusional, too much NyQuill and being sick...

I fear that we have been led astray. The word desert could also mean a vast, arid expanse. Perhaps this years game will be played in sand. After all, Dave's other car is on Mars!

That would be absolutely aweful. We would have to have sealed drivetrains and no exposed lubricants and even the muffin fans are at risk. Hmmm, sealed drivetrains - it is extra work but wouldn't it be cool if we could fill it up with transmission fluid and do a fluid change after ever match? LOL :D
