2005 Florida reigonal
i was just looking thru the team list check out the last team on this list http://www.usfirst.org/frc/map/FMPro...-max=all&-find
and i noticed that 168, and 147 aren't on it. are they not competing or did they just not get in to the regional? |

I am very much hoping I can have a team started in time to make it on that list.
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
it isn't that shocking to see some teams go....the statistics on Florida teams are much more freightening than one would like to believe....statistically we were only supposed to have a net loss of 4 teams this year....unfortunately the hurricanes may have affected the teams more adversely than I originally thought....
Florida teams registered Only 27....hopefully that will come up a bunch |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
With the Florida Regional full - here's some things I take away:
1) Only 35 slots versus 41 in attendance last year. 2) 24 teams returning, 11 new teams, 17 not returning 3) The entire 2004 Florida Regional Finalist Alliance (233, 311, 1144) not returning 4) The entire 2004 Florida Regional Champions Alliance (61, 386, 945) is returning to defend their title (Thanks for making the long haul Mike Norton) 5) 342/343 coming again (woohoo! Missed you guys last year) plus Cutting Edge returning - South Carolina well represented 6) 10 teams from out of state, including California and Montana! Cool! Looks like a great event |

Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Well, since starting a new job this past summer as a lighting programmer for the Univision television network, I no longer have the time to continue working with team 168 (in fact, this is the first time I've been on CD in a few months, I'm sitting in the control room waiting to start taping), and as such, no one that I know of has picked up the slack, and I do not know what the status of the team is this year.

I wish our team could come to florida, but i think its a bit far for us to go... Being in Michigan and all. Hope that in future years we can have the means to go to such good regionals
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Wow there are like what 2 rookies at UCF this year, man this is gonna be an intense competion
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
The more rookies the better, they always think of the things that we dont
Take 1241 for example, from canada. |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I havent seen team 86 on there... are they returning?
I would hate to see Florida regional lose a great alliance... |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
YAY! 1523 the rookie team that we helped Spawn
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Tech Tigers will be there! Yea 233 is goin to Colorado since it is sponsored by NASA, the rest of that allience i dunno. Regardless it should be a great regional cuase those so much competiton. By the way good luck to 1523 the new rookie team started by Children of the Swamp. Good luck too all the teams. Can't wait. :)
Andrew Disbury TECH TIGERS TEAM # 1251 Techonlogy for the 21st century Watch out for a Tiger near you! :ahh: |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
It looks like somebody finally caught on. We plan on taking the same risk we did last year. If anybody recalled, Team #233 signed up for our first regional at New York. Then for our second regional we signed up for UCF (even though we attended UCF before going to NY).
This year we plan on going to Colorado; we wanted to go last year, but decided not to for some odd reason. And we hope that we will make it to the UCF regional as our second regional. Also keep in mind that Team #311, the Red Jammers, are from New Jersey, and Team #1144, Coquitron, are from Puerto Rico. So as you can see, it may be difficult for them to come back, but you never know! :) I cannot wait for the UCF Regional this year. I also think a lot of other teams are going to notice us more this year than last year. Thanks for the kind comments as well, and hope to see you guys there! |

um... FCAT week is the same as the reigonal, Has this occured to anyone?
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Tytus, it was the same way last year. the students on the team were excused and had parents permission to make it up at some point of time when they get back from the regional. :)

Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Less teams is a good thing....at least for parking. The big parking lot to the left of the arena is no more, they are building somthing there, i hear housing, so now the majority of people are going to have to park in the garages across the street.
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
It is December 5 and 1604 is still only on the waitlist for UCF. Should I be getting worried? I know that three teams have made it into the regional since this thread has opened (each with their own legitimate reasons for being allowed in I'm sure), but I'm starting to get concerned.

Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I have heard lots of rumors as to what it is, I will ask around some more. But another side effect of the construction is that the back area where the tent was is used for storage right now. This means there will be no tent there, I have heard that they are putting all of the pits inside this year from various sources going back to the end of last years reagional. This is why there are less teams this year. Luckily, you can still get to that back area to unload pit equipment and whatnot.

|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I was just looking at the calendar, and the regional isnt during UCF's Spring break this year. This means the campus may be packed with poeple. I hope they figure out what they are doing with parking because there isnt enough parking by the arena and parking services is pretty @#$%!@ always.
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
that's ok cause it leads into the spring break....woohoo a few extra days for us college ppl....=)

Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I apoligize if this was already posted.
I just found out that juniors in Florida have to take the science FCAT on March 10th. This is the thursday of the regional. It could just be my county, but I am not sure. If it is the entire state, I think this would cause a problem for many teams, especially if they have already made all of the travel arrangements. |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Isn't there a make-up date for students who were absent on certain days for the FCAT? If so, I think a lot of people on teams are going to be making up the science portion of the FCAT. If not, there has to be some way to exempt students from taking it on that day specifically.
I remember I had to take an AP exam on a flight to Nationals (Houston) two years ago. That was interesting. |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I don't know if my school will do that. It is not part of the county school board. Also, I think the mackup day is the next day. Also, I am in all college classes and I can't miss anymore then 3 days or I fail. (I am missing three for the competitions) I can't miss another to take the FCAT.
The main reason I am mad is that ever since 2nd grade, they have been telling us that if you pass it in 10th grade, you never have to take it again. All of a sudden that doesn't matter. They have been pulling this ... since you know who got in office and started the FCAT! Oh well, I can either go and fail all my classes or not go and loose the money that I paid for it, plus cause my team to pay for extra rooms for people who had to cancel because of this, unless they can find some way to exempt us or something. |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Hmm... I am not exactly sure what to say other than to ask questions to the school board. I know there has to be some way to exempt the test on that day (I thought the make up dates are two weeks after). I wonder if it is possible to take it early (I highly doubt that).
As for absences, I know our school board excuses absences from robotics trips since they consider them "field trips." Try to see if you can approach it from that angle, so the absences do not count against you. I already asked my professors ahead of time, and they say that they will not count me absent on days of competition. Plus I asked for the make up work. There are alternatives, just keep looking for them. And good luck. |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I believe there is a day to make up the FCAT--since they always announce that make ups are blah blah at south fork in the auditorium. yes, a lot of our member are affected by it. but i'm sure there is a way out of it.
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
My final exam for Econ is on the 10th. My teacher is letting me take it the Tuesday before we leave. (We're leaving Wednesday morning.) I only get one half class period for review, but whatever. I'm great in that class anyway. I hope the FCAT thing works out for you. I hated that stupid test when I lived in Florida. Standardized testing sucks.
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
FCAT sucks, big time, i heard that they made the Mayor take or someone important and he failed it!!, i don't know, i think we only have one Junior in our team, we are mostly Seniors and freshmens. This is year is going to lots of fun.
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I finally got the people at my school to let us make it up afterwards. The only problem is, the scheduled makeup day for me is the same day that I am supposed to go on a field research trip for one of my classes. I don't think I'll be going.
Orlando should be fun. Good luck to all teams. |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Well guys,
UCF is coming in two weeks and to all teams i will be working as a safety advisor in the pits. I would just like to open my knowledge and know how to all teams that if you guys are having problem in the pits with mechanical or electrical issues or just need a extra hand in the pits just ask and i will try to help. Arefin knows about my help since we helped him drop 7 pounds last year :). But, feel free to ask if you dont know who i am well just ask around and iw ill be found. Good luck to all teams |

That's funny, I don't remember you being anywhere near the practice field when we decided that dropping at the atwoods was thonly way to loose 7lbs.... Maybe it's just my memory. |

ya... we were behind you when you arefin just dropped to the floor and rest of you guys just wanted to cry it seemed... we stayed for a bit to help but then you guys said you'll handle it all so our pit crew left....and our software team stayed behind to work our on our bot...but that's okay..u guys finished and so it's all good BUT BUT..this time..oh i can't wait...my brain is thinking it's Thursday...it should be next Thursday already!! I then would be already done with this crazy artist statement.... I will say though S.P.A.M. is always willing to help...we of course if we can make any parts you need..well I will be making them and Jack too. So if you need anything especially tools and stuff...we practically bring our entire pit minus the space..lol...and our big machines: lathe, band saw, drill press and milling machine can't wait to see everyone!!! |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
This regional was our very first regional back in 1999. I think we won one match and got totally spanked in the others. It was great. I do miss the fact that this was the last of the outdoor events and the great atmosphere that that would bring to the competition. We just finished our travel meeting with our students and they are bitting at the bit to get this season of competitions started. This is our first time back to this regional since 2001 which was a great competition where I think Heatwave came out of nowhere and won it going away. See you all on Thursday.
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I hope this competition goes well. Im concerned about what they are going to do with parking (campus is already overflowing with cars). THey built a dorm in what was the old parking lot at the arena, and there are alot of teams coming to the event.
Either way I know we are going to have a great time. |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Yea, im also concerned with parking. I don't think it will be that bad for everyone competing because we will be there around 7-730 and we will be there before most of the students come for class. Its just going to be a long walk from the garage to the arena. I want to know what the teams with trailers are going to do.
We at 1694 could use some help in programming an autonmous mode. Any help will be appreciated |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I don't remember the layout too well, but if there is a problem with parking and trailers, maybe there could be a designated trailer loading area near the pits where people can unpack their stuff, then they can go park the trailer further away.

Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
i was just wondering if there is going to be a social. i haven't heard anything as of yet.
i wish the best of luck to all the teams, it should be great fun. |

Afterwards, team 1083 will be going to see Robots at the Waterford Lakes theater since it opens that night. Anyone who wants to join us would, of course, be welcome. The movie will start at 9:20 (unofficial, but semi-confirmed by a manager) and is 90 minutes long. I know it's a bit late, but we didn't want to cut into the official social and the theater wouldn't play a special viewing on Thursday for us. =-[ I really hope we get like 200 FIRSTers packed into the theater for the opening night of Robots. That would be just too cool. |
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
For all of our friends in Fla...343 is loaded and will be heading out tomorrow a.m. 343 and 845 will be traveling together on a bus. Looking forward to some warm weather and a lots of fun. Good luck to all the teams...this is going to be a great regional.

Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
Excited to see 343 is coming back, always adds another edge of competition can't wait to see you guys in action.

Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
234's flying out today after school. We'll be arriving sometime tonight, can't wait for tomorrow :) See you guys there.
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
I am off to bed here in a bit to get ready for tomorrow so don't have long. Just thought I'd give an update on the UCF Regional if there were no webcasts during practice. The only real matches I got to see were when I was on deck, but I was able to catch the last few of the day. I am massively impressed with what 179 has brought, I saw their cap EVERY goal on the field early in the day, and then some story at the end of the day. I have some other ideas on who will be ready to play hard tomorrow, but I just thought I'd throw this one out there. I was in awe.
|
Re: 2005 Florida reigonal
WEll from what i have seen there are many strong teams and its going to be a great regional. We can only see what the QP matching's will bring. We did have a few minor injuries today but everything was taken care of. The field computer did crash but it was quickley fixed and we were on the phone with FIRSt at the end of practice and everything is ready to go for tommorow. So everyone bring your A game and lets see a awesome regional
