I will say from your first screen shot, it looks like Max's interface is even more complicated now. Personally I don't really see the point in adding all those buttons when most stuff is accessable from a toolbar menu.

If you're new, don't freak out. Just... don't press all the buttons :]

That second toolbar is probably a custom toolbar. I think it will look like the normal interface. If you have ever seen v3.1, it had all kinds of tabs and things on the toolbar so it has been simplified since then. In the 17mb whats new pdf, there is a picture of the interface. It has that second tool bar but I still think it is a display option.

Yeah, but then you don't really have anything. I know people who have been using Max for years and they still can't work in expert mode. :]

Greetings Teams:

We are thrilled to announce that once again Autodesk will be sponsoring FIRST FRC teams through its generous software donations and training activities. Our many thanks go to our friends at Autodesk for their continuing commitment to the FIRST mission.

Autodesk anticipates shipment of software will start early next week. Please note that if you are a rookie team Autodesk will not ship software until the $500 FIRST Robovation deposit has been received.

Please read below for full details on what Autodesk is offering our teams this season!

************************************************** ********************

Autodesk is very excited to grant the teams something really cool this year! The Autodesk "kits" will start shipping the week of November 1, so here's what you can expect:

Autodesk Design Academy ("ADA")

ADA is a pre-engineering and pre-architecture program that includes:
  • Autodesk Inventor Series
  • Autodesk Architectural Desktop
  • Autodesk Revit
  • Autodesk VIZ
  • And the best part: curriculum for the teachers!
ADA includes a 25-seat classroom license for all these cool programs. That's right, 25 of you can be working on Autodesk Inventor at the same time! But that's not all: we are also including 3ds max 7, the latest version of our award-winning animation software, just released last week.

We will have an update coming soon about some fantastic training opportunities for both Autodesk Inventor and 3ds max. Stay tuned for updates!

Autodesk

That's awesome!!!!!
So does that mean we get a 25-seat license for 3ds max?

i don't think so. We'll just have to wait for more updates on max7...
i certainly hope we get multiple licenses..

I hope so too. I'm trying to get animation started on our team but we don't have good computers to put them on except school computers, and the IT department doesn't like my method of putting software on more than one computer... :p

I seriously doubt it. Althought discreet is owned by autodesk, they are two seperate entities, meaning that 3ds max 7 is NOT included in the ADA. I guess we can always hope though.

To answer this question, no. There is 1 license copy of max 7. However, the ADA includes autodesk viz, with 25 seats. It is basically 3ds max set up for easier integration with Inventor. So, 25 seats of viz are available.

Re: 3ds max 7

From what I've read the Viz 2005 user interface is virtually identical to 3DS Max 6, and it has about 95% of the features. It doesn’t have a few of the advanced features like Character Studio, but you can use Viz for model creation, texture mapping, lighting, cameras & basic animation, and use Max for the really advanced stuff.

I think it's a very workable solution.

Re: 3ds max 7

I have used 3DS MAX 7 and the only difference that I saw from 7 to 6 is the normal mapping feature, turbosmooth(similar to mesh smooth), and the newer version of mental ray. Other than that, it is just like 6.

Hey, does anybody know if 3ds Max 7 will run in 64bit?
