After watching the video & listening to the song, I got to thinking.

What's people's take on Eminem's newest(?) song, "Mosh"?

I'd post a link to the video & lyrics, but they're vulgar (read: only one curse word). Both are REALLY easy to find honestly though.

Here's my take: I don't think it's right to try and make people vote for the other runner. I do know that the song is also a direct hit at Bush, but it's more of a "Vote for Kerry" concept. The lyrics are good, they get the point across (on a "Bush is bad" theory). The video is getting old (I've seen so many anime-style videos lately).

I see the two parts the other way.

Perhaps I'm nuts, but I don't think "Mosh" is Em's best work. I like it, but it's not his best. (For some reason, I don't think current events-based songs across all genres are as good as their artists' equivalents.)

The video, however, I think is a score. Sure, there's been plenty of anime-esque videos lately. But it works here.

I saw the video yesterday on BET .. i liked it .. i didn't however get the Lloyd Banks bit (he was a photo on the wall and was then changed into anime) .. but i didnt hear any of his rapping .. but maybe it was just me .. i was falling asleep at the time ...

As for the direct hit at Bush .. doesnt bother me .. I think artists have the right to express their political opinions. It isnt the first time a celebrity has expressed their political views. It happens all the time. Ashton Kutcher said the other day that he voted for Bush in the past election and said that "he got punked"

And I agree with Billfred .. it's definitely not his best work .. but it is still pretty good ... I'm still liking Just Lose It though .. finding it pretty hilarious ...

I tend not to follow political advice from a guy who’s lost a defamation suit to the plaintiff - his mommy, avoided a felony assault conviction (pistol whipping a guy who was kissing his wife in a bar) by pleading guilty to carrying a concealed weapon, and plead no contest to pulling his 9mm on some upright citizens known collectively as Insane Clown Posse.

No doubt that artists have the right to express their political opinions. However, if justice had been served, Eminem would not have the right to vote his opinion, he’d be a convicted felon.

I don't think it's Eminem's best work, but I do think that it gets his point across.

After watching it again a few 10x's (:D), I've realized that it is a pure-direct hit at Bush. I do not, however, believe that he's saying "Vote for Kerry", just "Don't vote for Bush". I know some aren't gonna see it that way though, but hey.

I think the concept of the video is still old, but I like how it all works together.

I'm not usually the biggest rap fan, but I have to say I like it.

Looks like the video was made by the same people who did Chronic Future's "Time and Time Again" same style and a few times the same or similar characters appear too.

I'm going to agree with Jack Jones and add that that looking for a role model in Eminem is simply asinine. He's not awesome, he's a promoter in making this country's morals rapidly decline.

As with anything that Eminem puts out you have to take it with a grain of salt. Eminem would rather shock you then actually give you meaningful advice. This of course all in the name of selling records. He's another one of the artists who love the fame and money but constantly complain about how tough life is because they are just too popular and can't go in public without the nuisance of being recognized. That in itself shows you how intelligent he is.

Anyway to the video Mosh...

It seems that the main message is that Bush should not be in office. We secretly have Osama Bin Laden in custody and use him as a tool to incite fear in Americans. We then direct that fear into Iraq for the purpose of obtaining oil. All the while sending young Americans to die. He seems to think the US still has a major problem with racism. Yet doesn't really elaborate on how George Bush is involved with that. The young woman being evicted from her apartment is a direct attack against Bush's new tax policy. Kerry is never really endorsed but simply made a reference to. The end of the video encourages people to vote but never endorses a candidate. Since he doesn't even mention Nader I would say he wants people to vote for Kerry.

Too bad it doesn't work. I was really amazed by the fact that most of the celebrities end up hurting the person they are supporting than helping. The most disperaging of which has to be Micheal Moore where 24% of the people were voting for Bush and 4% where voting for Kerry because of him. The numbers are quite lower for all of the other celebrities but generally the trends stay the same.

I saw eminem performing "mosh" yesterday. I think that is the way rap is supposed to be, instead of making threats to random law enforcement officers, it is time to blame the real people for the country's problems. It wasn't excellent rap, but it was a powerful rap with an even stronger message. Way to go, Eminem!

This is an incorrect statement. Felons can vote in many states, especially those who are not on parole. But even in some states felons on parole can vote. This is a state by state issue, and this myth that all convicted felons in the USA are barred from voting needed to be debunked. I’m just sorry I couldn’t correct you before election day, in case you had inadvertently scared a felon away from the polls who legally had a right to vote.

As for morals… What you find moral, I may find immoral, and vice versa. To say that Eminem is responsible or partially responsible for the decline in our country’s morality is a subjective statement.

I also think that you shouldn’t just dismiss endorsements by celebrities or musicians just because they’re famous. You shouldn’t necessarily follow your favorite actor to the polls, but you should listen to them like you would listen to your brother, sister, friend, or neighbor. They (usually) have good and well thought out reasons for endorsing and campaigning for their candidate of choice.

I think it’s very close-minded to dismiss people just because they’re an entertainer, an author, or a film-maker. Some of them have quite a lot of insightful things to say (Bad Religion is a great example). Celebrities are people, nothing more and nothing less. You should give them the same courtesy you’d give anyone else. No one can force you to listen to people, but you need to realize that it doesn’t hurt you to give it a try. It also helps to read the newspaper especially if you’re a politician.

Yet Jerry Falwell can get away with it? It's his opinion, and IMHO if he says something you don't like, DON'T SUPPORT HIM. We're all entitled to our own opinion on things, just because he's a celebrity dosn't mean he should censor himself.

I'll take that a step further.

If you don't agree with him, ignore him completely. Tune him out, don't protest, don't do anything. If the only mentions of him come from him, then the public is largely going to tune out. It's the same way with bullies (not saying that Em is, but the example is true).

Ok, this is going a lil' way off topic here.

For the racism in America...it's just as bad now as it was when immigrants (sp?) first came. but instead of hating them, they hate the Arabs (mainly) because of 9/11. I, am against this whole concept though. I know a few people are aware that I dispise racism.

For Eminem's bashing on homosexuals and stuff...so what? Do I believe in what he says, no. Do I believe that he makes any sort of decent point w/ those comments, no. All this means is that I ignore the comments. Same as what others should honestly do...if you don't like what the man has to say, don't listen.

I don't believe Eminem is the problem for racism...I believe America is the problem for it. In reality, how can one man, just one man, really say what everyone is thinking?

My take on the video/song is that in my opinion Em is putting out there a strong message that isn't neccessarily "vote for Kerry" but more along the lines of "Bush has has made quite a few bad decisions like he invested so much money into so many things (i.e. searching for weapons of mass destruction) and alot of the times we have come out empty-handed, also about Bush and his tax-cuts which in my opinion only benefit the "big business" and hurts the every day laboror.

Racism is inherent in the System
 

Which immigrants are you referring to? Who is 'they' who hate the Arabs?

Racism is institutional in this country, and will be around for a long time. That is not to say that it can not be fought and lessened, which it can and needs to be, but just that it is so ingrained in everything that it will not go away overnight.

While you might despise racism, are you an active White Ally struggling along with People of Color against the racism inherent in the system?

I completely agree with Wetzel. Racism isn't that suddenly just appears, most of the time it is passed down from generation to generation in a family. Like Wetzel said racism is so ingrained in everything these days that trying to stop it over night is like trying to stop the Mississippi river with a pebble.

The immigrants I am referring to are like the people from Ireland, Scotland, etc...who came here from another country to find the happiness they were/are promised. "They" is the [majority] of the population. So many people are so afraid to even see them because they think that all of them are here to destroy the country (just my own view...but it seems pretty valid).

I do realize that racism will never perish. I accept that, but the way it is preached in America is pathetic in my opinion. Everyone who is against Arabs seems to try and influence other people's morals who don't want to discriminate for no reason (since racism is making a judgement not based on every soul of that race, only a few).

No, I am not a "rebel" fighting for equality (yet). I do support the cause of equality though, and as soon as I can I do plan on joining the fight.

i have not heard it, but i have heard what he tries to say in it. I think it is hypocritical of Eminem (sorry i dont know how to make the backwards E) becuase in his other albums he talks of killing and murdering his ex wife and mom ect. Then in this he talks of peace and anti-war beliefs. Personally i think many stars are trying to cash in on the same idea as micheal moore had, the difference is is that micheal moore did it good.

It's not hypocritical (or contradicting). He's not saying we should have world peace, or really not gone into war. He thinks Bush should do it all himself, since he's the only one who actually wants it.

This song is up for grabs on the interpretation. All I can honestly say is that to say E is being a hypocrite, a contradictor, or whatever like that just because he's preaching about there being no Iraq war is actually wrong.

As I said earlier, he's not saying there should be no war...just that Bush should do his own work. We got pushed into this to fast to actually've known what was going on. Not to mention the fact that Bush flip-flopped about the war...saying first it was for the WMD's, but now it's to destroy Saddam and rebuild Iraq into the perfect country.

I know this has gone off topic (what I just typed), but that's how it boils down to really with the war concept in the song.

No matter how you think about it though, he's still not saying he supports Kerry in the song, nor does he support the other 7 runners for the seat. All he's saying (just as someone else said) is that he's saying don't vote for Bush, and here's why. So, he's actually not influencing the vote to much (he is, but it's not as bad as what it could be).

If anything, he's actually influencing people to vote (take the 2nd & 3rd verse).

It's not that the fact that he should censor himself. It's the fact that he is saying to completely contradictory things and he loses any clout he has because of this. Let us all unite to defeat Bush until my next song where I try and divide us. Your example doesn't work. I have been bullied enough throughout school to know that ignoring it doesn't work.

yes i saw the new video, and wasnt sure how to take it. Em has been known to take large steps into the direction of contriversary. This video was no expection, and i do belive he was part of the Puff Daddy Vote or Die thingy... so it would make sense the way he went with this video... but you could go in dept into the video, but its almost pointless to pick apart word for word. he has gone no record saying he just pokes fun at people but doesnt mean thats his belife's or whatnot.
