[quote=JosephM]We went to the first regional year there and travel was, well, um, really really bad in a really bad way. You had to park miles away then take a bus in! :p

QUOTE]

For those with a team bus, you can get approval for your bus to drive you right to the arena.

For those without a team bus, parking is offsite at the stadium (note: different than the arena) and they run shuttle buses to the arena. We had some people that were able to park near the Academy in town, but this is iffy.

Depending on the alert level, there will be various levels of security.

Team 341 loves the Chesapeake Regional. Great people, great venue, and lots of fun!!! We will be there for our third straight year.

I have not checked the list but there are usually a fair number of teams that go to Ramp Riot that will choose Chesapeake.

We will be at Ramp Riot because we have to run the darn thing!! :D

See you there!

Team 501 will be attending the Chesapeake Regional too! We can't wait. :D

Fortunately, I already know more than enough about the area since my mom lives down there. Guess I get to be tour guide for my team.

Will do! We're going to the Chesapeake Regional for the second time this year - we didn't register in time last year, but we made sure of doing it first thing last month.

I'm already getting excited....

Once again, as Mrs. K said, if anyone has any good ideas about places to stay or eat or anything!!! I believe we're coming in Wednesday night (possibly flying, possibly bus, not sure yet!!! If we bus, thursday morning) Cheap buses? Is there public transportation we could take from a hotel to the Naval Acadamy? I'm on the travel committee for our team, so you can pm or e-mail me anything that you think would help!
THanks!!!
and again SUPER excited, esp since it'll hopefully be warmer than CT in March:D

134 attended two years ago and we stayed at the omni, if you stay there the naval base is within walking distance. The bus is a big problem because everytime you enter the academy they search your bus. It's easier to just walk in.

Little insight,

-Pat

The US Naval Academy is an operating military base. With that said, everyone who sets foot onto the Academy has to show ID. Assuming nothing catastrophic happens between now and March, everything should run similar to the way it has in previous years. Teams traveling with a bus will be allowed on the Academy grounds once in the morning to drop the team off and once in the evening to pick everyone up. For those teams who will carpool, use vans or something similar, you will have to park at the Navy - Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, and there is a free shuttle to Halsey Field House. Parking in downtown Annapolis is very limited, and parking on the Academy grounds is limited only to those people with DOD passes. More detailed information will be available most likely in mid-January.

There is no Omni in Annapolis, so I'm not sure where you and your team stayed. In prior years, the Lowes Annapolis Hotel has been one of the hotels in the THS system. This hotel is about a 4-5 block walk from the Academy's Gate 1 (Main Gate, Halsey is right next to the gate).

This is a great event, and we look forward to seeing everyone in Annapolis! As for food, can't go wrong with MD seafood! There are plenty of hotels in the area, and all are close to food! Most of the hotels are either close to the Annapolis Mall where there is a food court and a number of surrounding restaurants, and/or the Festival at Riva Shopping Center and Annapolis Harbour Center where there are plenty of options. Also there are plenty of great options in Historic Downtown Annapolis for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If there are any questions about Annapolis, please feel free to PM me or reply back.

Actually, 341 has gone for the past 2 years- the first year I didn't go, as my junior class load was rather extensive, but I heard that the naval academy did indeed search our buses..

Of course I couldn't not go last year, my senior year... and they didn't search our buses, they didn't even look at our id's..

384 defiantly WON'T be going to Chesapeake regional this year. Because we are low on money, we wish to have the money available, or coming, before we register for regionals and make false promises. It's an ethics thing for us.

Hope to see you guys at Chesapeake at Champs!

Team 1111 will be there for the 3rd year. This is our local event. As locals, we hope to have some handouts giving you guys ideas for places to eat.

If you've never eaten a blue crab, steamed and spiced w/ Old Bay seasoning, do it when you come to Annapolis! Buddy's Crabs and Ribs is right at the bottom of main street just a couple hundred yards from the Naval Academy gate. Cantler's Riverside Inn is a favorite of mine - 5 min. drive from the Academy.

Another Annapolis delicasy is cream of crab soup. Not as adventuresome as eating crabs, but absolutely delicious. Most all the restaurants downtown serve it.

Chick & Ruth's Delly on Main Street is great for breakfasts, sandwiches and shakes.

For you sushi eaters  there are three Japanese places on Main Street.

Again, look for Team 1111 for more info on the area.

I think this would be hard. The buses have to drop and leave, there is no parking lot.
But we could have a picnic! By the water! (Depending on the weather, it can be mighty chilly in March by the water)
But there were plenty of teams who had a picnic inside. You can bring in your own food.

TEAM 341 will gladly help with clean up. Mike has worked with our kids before, so that should help.
