Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
We placed 43rd at the end of the day. Also we did much better last year. I mean after all we made the semi-finals at VCU but non-the-less Chesapeake was so great. I enjoy it every year win, lose, or lose to a team that didn't uncrate (2003). The fact that we got everything to really work during our last match was great. I really enjoyed talking with the different members of the teams when I was scouting.

Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
I just would like to thank teams 175 BUZZ and 122 NASA Knights for being wonderful alliances. Your team spirit and enthusiasm to win was amazing to see and hear, and I am so thankful we chose you! Excellent work.
Also to my group of singers for the National Anthem: You all did so wonderful, I'm so happy. We all were great! Thanks for trying so hard and being so cooperative with our practices and helping me overcome my nerves. I love you guys! |
Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
I just want to say that Rage was awsome. Wow, one of the best bots this year. Also, congrats to Miss Daisy 341 for winning chairmans!
I just hope Chesapeake isn't trying to seduce Jeff to start only MCing for them.... |
Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
You all missed the 120 point match from Friday, and the story to go along with it.
Friday morning had Jeff Seaton as the MC. Sometime in the early afternoon, he switched with Dave Lavery. One of the things Dave did was issue a challenge: "The season high score was last week in Phoenix at 112. If any alliance here beats that score, Jeff Seaton and I will buy you a steak dinner." Jeff kind of looked up and wondered what Dave had got him into. Lo and behold, about 7 matches later, 1027 working with two other capers owned all the goals and scored 120 points. Shortly thereafter, I asked him what his wife would say, his response was a simple "Don't ask." Dave and Jeff, being NASA engineers, later made sure during speech time that teams understood how important wording is in government contracts. "The exact wording of the bet payoff was A steak dinner." All well and good, Jeff Seaton offered a new challenge to teams on Saturday morning: "Each team on an alliance to beat the high score will get a box of Krispy Kremes from myself and one box from Dave" With motivation like that, how could teams NOT score higher than 120? :D I'll share more later, being a ref was far more exhausting then I expected it to be and I am very tired and this probaly dosn't even make sense to someone thinking logicaly, but it makes sense to me. However, I will goto bed now. Wetzel |
Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
To all the teams and volunteers who traveled to the Chesapeake and helped to make this the best regional in the country.
You guys rock! Thanks to everyone for their incredible spirit. We had many teams who helped get those teams lagging behind to pass inspection before match one. You did a great job of cleaning up and the clean up party finished the rest. The Americorps volunteers had a blast. So did the Brits! You were patient with the shuttles and all the extra stuff we have to do because this is held at the Academy. I hope everyone from out of town got to walk down to the harbor and to visit the sites at the Academy. See you next year. Time to clean out the 14 pockets on my fishing vest..... |
Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
sooooooo much fun at the Chesapeake... Great alliance partners to bring 88 to another semi finals... We seemed to be stuck and can't get passed the semis this year... :( but we still had sooo much fun... The competition was great, the venue itself was soooooo awesome... We had such a great time...
173, 1027, and 53... You guys were just unstoppable... it was unfair... hahaha... Great job... |
Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
Wow, WHAT FUN!!! For three days I met mentors, students, judges and volunteers who were so polite, so enthusiastic, so full of energy. It was great meeting all of you - I loved your team spirit; I enjoyed meeting the rookie teams and wish you well in the years to come; I thank the NEMs who took the time to stop by on Thursday for our NEMO meeting - it's always fascinating to hear how teams are so different yet so much alike; and...
I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DONUTS! :D |

Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
Yeah, Chesapeake was pretty awesome. I finalized autonomous mode Friday morning and we successfully removed a hanging tetra in autonomous mode in all but one of our remaining matches (and that one match was because our alliance partners wanted us to start in the middle position). To my knowledge, this is the first time that our team has ever gotten autonomous to work as hoped for. It was also the first (and will be the only) time that I've ever driven a Friarbot during an actual FIRST regional (match #52, the last of Friday), and that experience will be one I'll likely never forget. From Dave pointing the stick at our driver station to announce #1168, to grabbing a tetra from the loading zone, to crazily driving the bot back and forth near the corner goal (ramming the goal quite a bit in the process) to get the arm unstuck and the tetra capped, to quickly getting the bot back behind our alliance line with ten seconds to spare in the match (it shook horribly, but didn't tip :D), to winning the match - possibly one of the best 2.25 minutes of my life. Even though we weren't chosen for an elimination alliance and didn't win any awards (to my knowledge - if we did somehow win a Saturday award, please tell me ASAP), the 2005 Chesapeake Regional was really good. Pity it's my last ever FIRST event as a student participant, but it was a pretty nice way to go out.
I'll probably post a few pictures from Chesapeake in the near future. If anybody has any video from matches 2, 13, 21, 36, 45, 52, 61, or 69, it would be vastly appreciated (I'll hand-deliver you cookies if you're going to the Philly regional) if you could post them here, link me to them, or e-mail me them. |
Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
I just wanted to say that Chesapeake was one of the most fun times I've had.
I was particularly amused by RAGE trying to get us more spirited by coming over and chanting "We've got spirit, yes we do, we've got spirit how 'bout you?" ...our team just sort of sat there for a few seconds, unsure of how to respond, then bursted out laughing. :o |
Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
Next time we meet we're going to teach you guys that cheer! :D
|
Re: 2005 Chesapeake Regional
That cheer worked at the BAE systems regional with team 157 the Aztechs. It is a great cheer and is a good way to involve multiple teams.
