When Did You Have Your First Accident?
 

So yeah, when did you drivers have your first car accident? it can be big, small whatever.
Reason I made this thread is because today I was taken out driving for the first time by my sister. She took me into this parking lot, and there is an area where there are dumpsters and a big trick was in one of the parking spaces. So she tells me to pull into one of the parking spaces near the truck. So I do, and then she tells me to pull out so I can drive back out. So I do, but I accidentally drift pretty quickly (we're on a slanted hill doing this) and hit the back corner of the truck! (Take note I got my Learners Permit on October 12th, and this is my first time driving.) Luckily, the truck wasn't damaged. What we had to worry about was my sister's car, which has about $1500 worth of damage on the right front around the headlight. I'm so upset about it! I feel horrible.
Anyways, so when did y'all have your first accident? Was it bad? Who/what did you hit? Did you total the car or did you just make a few dents?

dori, what are we going to do with you? i've gone driving about 8 times already and i've missed all obstacles by at least a half-inch. i might go out driving today though, watch me total the car :ahh:

I've had my license for close to 2 years, and the only accident I've been in was when I got pushed into another car by someone who didn't really know how to drive a manual. :ahh:

I haven't been in an accident yet, but I've only had my license for about 9 months. My bumper is missing a little paint though from last week when I went to back out of the garage and forgot to put the door up first, :ahh: no serious damage though, I caught myself and I just tapped it.

I have been involved in one accident, and it wasn't my fault. I was rearended in DC on Oct. 16th. There was no damage to the other car, but my dad's Passat (the car I was driving) needs a new bumper. I have had my license for about 2 years and had my learners permit for a little over a year before that.

Mine was a few weeks after i got my license. I was going across an intersection in my 1988 oldsmobile (solid Steel) and out of no where a ford foucus T-bones me in my passenger side door. Lets just say the Foucus lost that battle. He was going about 40 mph when he hit me, but the state trooper gave me the ticket cause i was the youngest and had too go to court, the ticket was dropped in court immedietly and that was the end of that.

well ive had no accidents thankfully buti did blow out my front driverside tire tho. still not sure how that happened

no accidents here and i will have had my license for 3 years in march. Thats kind of amazing because how i drive and i live in Florida. If any of you have been to florida and been cut off by those !#@$@ drivers....well i am one of them 0:)

The first time I ever drove was with my dad ... he took me to a parking lot of an abandoned store. There were big light poles and I, um, was kind of headed right towards one. Luckily, I stopped *just* before hitting it, but I realized that I, somehow, had my foot on both the gas and the break. My said, "lift your foot off of the gas and step on the brake." I guess I wasn't qucik enough, because my car idled right into the pole! We never had the damage assessed, but the fron of my car still has that nice dent - I'll post a picture later!

As far as a "real" accident, I was rear-ended this past June. I was stopped at a stoplight and I looked at my rearview mirror and saw a car that didn't look like it planned on stopping. It hit me going about 45-50 mph. Apparently her "brakes locked up" because of the wet roads. Her car wound up going under mine, knocking off the entire exhaust system and shattering the back bumper. The other car was totaled. She got a ticket for wreckless driving and a wrecked car -- I got a new bumper, exhaust system (which actually needed to be replaced anyway, 'cause it was old and falling apart) and some back problems to go along with all of it. Mostly whiplash in my back (but none in my neck, surprisingly) but I still have some lingering back pain. Ick.

The closest thing to a damaging accident I've been in was I was doing a U-turn in the middle of the road that wasn't wide enough. I thought I was just taking the car off the road and over some tall weeds. Well, apparently they weren't tall weeds.. but short weeds on a large mound of dirt. It scraped up my bumper a tiny bit and jolted me.. but that's it. I've come really close to being in some bad accidents. The worst close-call was when I was going 65 on a 3-lane road (two going my way) and some guy was doing a left-hand turn heading my way. I was in the right lane so I wrongfully suspected he was going to go into the left lane. My brakes were screaming as I slid nearly sideways about a foot away from him.

I just had my first accident yesterday. Another car avoided a stop sign and hit me head on the side of my car. My car needs a couple of days of repairing now.

But it is freaky being in an accident, you don’t know what is going on until it happened.

I've been driving since 2000 and I've never had an accident (and its not because I'm cautious, ask my friends they think I drive terrible but i tend to disagree) or a ticket of any kind (thank you radar detector).

I've had my liscence for about 4 months now, but about a month ago I ran out to the mall to get some lunch, and some old guy backed into my Honda with his truck, now there's a fist-sized dent in my hood, but I've had friends in much worse accidents, thankfully this has been my only one.

I recently got through session 1 of Driver's Ed this past September. It was a pain, but necessary. The drivng with a an instructor though wasn't.

This is where my first accident comes in, on my first hour of driving. I had just got in the car, just started to get going, and was about to make a right turn. I stop, look, look again, then went for it. I turn, forget to turn the wheel back, and go right into the corner. :D That is probably my only accident I've had. It didn't damage the dirvers ed car or anything else, but it did wake up the instructor. :D

I'm so proud to say I've never wrecked a car, hit a car, run into a car, or in anyway interacted with a car in a violent way. Haven't even killed anybody.

I've been out driving for 4 months now. (Stupid late guy at getting his temps... I should have had my license last month. :()

Since I am only 15 right now, I can't drive...legally by myself. So, I will tell ya'll 'bout my first FIRST "accident". OK, it was like late Jan or early Feb and I was on the grinder. As most of us know, a grinder can take a piece of metal right out of your hand. And let me say instead of grinding the piece of metal I "ground" a piece of my finger nail. It really really hurt. It left my nail black and blue for awhile, but I am over it now. So, what's your first accident? HAHA

Six months after I got my license, I was coming home from a theatre event. On the main street getting back to my house late. Rainy. Hit a pot hole. Tire came off the rim and my car lost control and went/rolled into a ditch coming close to hitting a tree by like an inch. Needless to say, the car died. My poor 88 hunk of steel.

I never really got into an accident, although I almost did the following:

Flip over (turned into a 5-lane a little to sharp)
Hit a lightpost (Over at K-Marts...'nuff said)
Slam into the back-end of my grandma's car
Flip over (again) (driving behind school...there's so many islands there)

That's it.

I was in a few accidents, but none by me.

About a year and a half ago, and it was a four car incident on I-95 North toward Baltimore. A car in the fast lane just cut into my lane. If I hadn't been paying attention, it would have been a really, really bad accident, since I was going 70 mph and everyone else was going that or faster (and the traffic was very heavy). Since I was paying attention, however, I saw the car heading straight for the front end of my car, and slammed on my breaks. I also jerked my steering wheel a bit, which was almost a bad thing as I then had to fight to keep my car in my lane. I had slowed down to about 20 miles an hour when the car behind me slammed into me and behind her, two other vehicles collided. In some ways I was very lucky, I wasn't injured (nor was anyone else) and it was the other driver's fault so no insurance problems, and it only took a week to get my car back (over $3,000 damage). But I've only driven on those main roads once since the accident, and I had a panic attack while doing so, and I don't know how to overcome my fear of driving. I have no problem with one and two lane roads, but more than that and I stress out. I know, I'm a wimp.

My first accident happened my senior year of high school, after an offseason sunday robotics meeting. Backing outa a spot i wasn't paying attention cuz i was thinking about something else, and turned to hard and broke off the decorative fake headlight on the front right side of my car and scratched up the side of the car next to me pretty good, i've got digital pictures somewhere of the damage, if i can find them i'll share them.

My only accident happened the 2 days before leaving for nationals this past year. I'm gonna leave out the details cause I hate remembering it :(. Lets just say the car and the end of the gaurdrail that has the round part on it got in a little arguement about whether or not I needed my rear drivers side door....and the gaurdrail won and it also felt it necessary to spin the car and pop all four tires and bend the axel. :(. my first accident is i got hit in the back of my car by this old guy at Jewel parking lot...the paint was comin off or cracked and there was sum dents , and it was this big case where he kept sayin its my fault when it really wasnt. Isnt' it when u get hit in the back of ur car its always the person behind you's fault? This guy was crazy...so my insurance went high sky like 50 dollars or w/e. When i got hit...i was scared liek all scared lol i didnt know wht to start with first like i didnt know wht information to give him like insurance card or w/e lol When i got home i thought my parents would kill me but they understood that it was the guy that caused the accident and not me. So i had to explain everything that happened to my mom and the insurance lady. it was the most stressful thing lol

I had my first and only accident during the 03 robotics season. I was going to robotics, of all places, and I was at a stop sign. These guys pulled up behind me a little too close and bumped me, then they proceeded to drive off. Some guy got their license plate number, but I decided it'd be a lot more trouble than it was worth because just a little of the paint was scratched off.

Rear ended a Station Wagon Escort. - 2pts
Totaled a Saturn (I drove away in my Jeep Cherokee) - 1pt
Rear-Ended a Cop - 0pt (Not my fault)
Rear-Ended a Grand Caravan - 0pts (not my fault)

Countless speeding tickets dropped, one no proof of licence, and one no proof of Insurance.

Pfft - I keep myself in business.

BTW - NO ONE WAS EVER HURT. Everyone was able to walk away. I can tell you each the stories if ya' wanna PM me...:D

Oh man, if anybody ever hit me and ran, God help them... Even though my truck is rusty and 1/2 in primer, (Paintjob this month? Wewt!) I still bought it with my own money and love it to death.

If someone hit me and ran I would be after them in a second, see if they like it. :mad:

I got my licence in June 1972 and did not have my FIRST accident till Feb 1988. Slick road and following too close to the guy in front of me. He stopped and I proved that ice and rubber are a dangerous mix.
My other accident was on my Kawasaki KLR 650 Dual-Sport bike.

March 19th.

I wasn't driving. But yeah, no fun. My friend was taking me to work as a favor, and we got nailed by a minivan doing 50 mph on the driver's side. The driver's side of our car got ripped off, we spun around several times, and ended up knocking over and landing on an electrical box, as well as tearing a whole bunch of live wires in the box. Not fun... and somehow, the police officer tried to put all blame on us. Fortunately, it ended up being "no fault" on either side.

Somehow - I still don't know how - both of us managed to actually get up and walk out of the car. The police officers and EMTs were shocked, because they were pretty sure my friend would be dead, and me unconcious. Amazingly, my friend ended up with a busted up hand and arm, and I had a concussion, and whiplash.

I'm still flinchy when I'm in cars. No fun.

My first accident happened about 6 months after I had first gotten my license. I went to pull out into a road and my friends truck was sitting partially in the road, I pulled out right as someone came around him in the other lane and got nailed. The cop gave me the ticket since I was 16 and she was friends with the woman who hit me's family. I got an unsafe movement ticket and went to driving school to have it completly taken off my record and changed to a nonmoving violation. It sucked, messed up my car really bad. Her car had about $300 worth of damage but when the bill was sent to the insurance company somehow she drove up a bill of 1800 and had dents fixed that were not even caused by the wreck. Some people just have to take advantage of teenagers.

I was 22 and recently got my lisence. I had rented a Chrysler K car. I was talking to my mom at work who was in an accident on Monday(she was pulling into a Hess gas station and the guy behind her rear ended her and gave her whiplash). I went to go cash in my check and I got to four corners in Webster and for some reason hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and then for some reason hit it again and slammed into this poor woman's car. After going "NOOOOOOOO!!!!" and pounding on the steering wheel I went to see if she was alright. Her first words "My neck..."
When the cops showed up I offered to get drug tested and do an alcohol test. "Do you take drugs or alcohol? he asked. I said no. He told me to just take a seat on the curb and relax. They were more interested that a rental company gave a 22 year old a car (supposedly they're not supposed to) and the dealer was more mad about having a tow truck take the car to someone else's garage than they were about me wrecking thier car (they actually asked if I wanted another car :ahh: ).
When the car was taken to the dealership my stepdad completed the disaster trifecta when he was servacing a Dodge ram that was idiling in the garage. He reached in to get the keys and it took off while he was hanging on the outside of truck. This poor woman witnessed her car which was just in for an oil change get slammed through the back garage door into a pair Shadows outside and get totaled. Fortunately my stepdad got the keys out and killed the engine before the truck slammed throught the other back garage door and kill him. All he ended up with was bumps and bruises.

In a little over two years I've put over 40,000 miles on my car and I still have not tickets and haven't ever been in an accident.

I did have a few close calls. Once I was driving home fairly late at night and I realized another was in the wrong lane comming at me. It was going aroung a turn so for a second I just thought it was my mind not seeing it right. I don't really remember what I did. I jerked out of the way and the car spun around a few times and at some point I think I threw it in reverse. By some act of God I didn't hit anything and ended up sitting in the right direction on some side street. The car and evrything was fine but I was a little shaken up.

In general I love driving, especially at night. I find it relaxing.

I have a significant memory or wrecking my vehicle in February of 2004. It was a cold winter morning at about five a.m. I was supposed to get up at four a.m. that morning and meet at a teacher’s house around four thirty a.m. I was going on a trip to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania this day to be at an education conference with my high school’s robotics team. I distinctly remember getting up one hour later that I was supposed to. For some reason I cannot remember if I just woke up or my mom came and woke me up. The first thing I did when I got up was to call the teacher’s house to see if they were still waiting for me. After a few rings the phone was answered by the teacher’s wife. She said that they had just left and I should call his cell phone. I called his phone and told him that I was on my way; I also asked him if he could turn around to wait for me. Once I calmed myself from hoping that I would still be able to go, I quickly threw all the belongings I needed into my vehicle. At the time I had a black 1990 Geo Tracker convertible. After getting the car started I sped off on my way not thinking about the road conditions. Within a half mile of my house I suddenly hit a combination of ice and cinders that sent my Tracker out of control. I tried to gain control of the vehicle, but could not and then realized I was heading right towards the left bank. While heading towards the bank I suddenly thought I was just going to get stuck in the ditch. I was very wrong! My vehicle ended up flipping over and landed back on its wheels. Once my Tracker came to a halt; its front end was 90 degrees from the road. Both front wheels were in the ditch covered by a foot or so of snow. I did not realize what had happened for a few seconds until I had looked at the surroundings. Luckily God watched over me that day and I came out of the accident without being seriously hurt. I ended up with one fun rollercoaster ride, no car to drive, one cut pinky, and a small bruise on my forehead. I drove the car back home and called the teacher to come pick me up! Yes, I ended up going on the trip despite the mishap and I even got to see Pennsylvania’s Governor Ed Rendell.

WAIT WAIT I DO REMEMBER ONE ACCIDENT I HAD! I POSTED EARLIER SAYIN NONE BUT I HADE ONE.

I was 13 and i had just finished cutting hte lawn and my grandparents always let me move the cars back into the driveway, so i preceded to do this. When i got to the front of the house instead of hitting the brake i hit the gas right intot he living room and i am talking that the whole car was in the living room. My grandpa was just yelling at me and i was trying not to laugh.

Everybody's fine, except my driver's side front door. I was picking up my boyfriend for school, and his driveway is on the slope of a hill. When I was pulling out to turn left up the hill, I looked and there was no car coming over the hill. So i pull out to go left up the hill and then a car comes over the hill and we both tried to swerve out of the way, but he ended up hitting my car on the driver's side front door. Luckily though, he was able to slow down enough so that there is only a HUGE dent in the bottom of my door, but it didnt crush in on me. Legally, of course, this accident was my fault, but it was pretty obvious the guy was speeding an the cop only gave me a warning instead of righting me a ticket. The most important thing of course, is that no one got hurt, and I got to miss statistics class.

i just saw a really bad accident yesterday. My Dad and I were heading down Rt. 5 and this truck cut across 4 lanes of traffic and pinned this little dodge neon up against a curb, the neon flipped over on its roof and slide on the concrete median for about 20yrds. My dad pulls over, pulls the girl out of the car who is screaming loudly hanging upside down held in by her seat belt, and i called 911, which was busy the first two times trying to call. No one was hurt (except the dodge neon) A very scary incident, i saw the neon go up on two wheels and I'm thinking this is not good, then when she went upside down i though this is definitely not good. I just can't believe the guy driving the truck didn't see the car.

My first car accident was just over a year ago when i still had my permit. I was driving to the library with my mom, and i had been telling her that i didn't know how to park, but she said i was fine. So she told me to park in the first spot on the left side of the parking lot after a turn. I didn't swing out far enough, and I hit the Volvo in the spot next to me. Luckily i was going slow enough that i just knicked the wheel cover, but i was totally freaked out. It turns out it was the cousin of one of my old friends who I had known. That was her second volvo that got hit in a parking lot within the past month, and the last person did more damage and didn't even leave a note. I didn't get into any trouble for it, and she didn't call the insurance company or anything.

I would love to say that that was my only accident that I've been in, but I got into one on the second day of school this year. And to make things worse, I was driving a car that I wasn't insured for (it was my aunt's car, so my parents weren't even insured on it) because my older sister was too tired to be driving that morning. The kid was an IB student in my grade and he got whiplash. :ahh:

About a month ago, I was driving downtown on a part of the main road that was under construction. Only one lane was open so cars were stopped or either crawling forwards at a mille per hour. I noticed that the left brakelight of the car in front of me, a station wagon, was broken. At one point, I stared left at some people walking by and bumped into the station wagon going about 1mph. The shock was pretty big. We pulled over. No damage was done, no one was hurt, so we just went our way. Upon pulling back onto the road, I noticed that the force from my bump fixed the guy's brakelight :)

Quite a positive accident.

Luckily I have been in no accidents while I have been behind the wheel but...

Mother's 4runner hit a tree
Dad's car got rear ended at stop sign
Sister's vehicle backed into another car
Sister's vehicle rear ended at stop light
School bus got rear ended at my own bus stop
Firetruck backed into a k-9 unit
Dad's pickup truck t-boned at intersection by guy flying over hill
Rear ended by an accura at a stop light (they were estimated at going 80-90 actually wedging themselves under the truck)
Friend's Grand Chereokee rolled it avoiding a deer going down back roads (shoulda just hit it)

And apparently I was in 2 more as a child but I dotn fully remember them so they dont count

I had my first accident my third year in college, in 1966. It was a very small accident. My '57 Chrysler had a bad master cylinder which allowed the brake pedal to slowly go to the floor when pressure was applied. This happened while I was un-parking the car, and I clipped the corner of another car at about 1 mph speed. Since the other car was a Corvette, it did some minor damage. Had it been another car like mine, there would have been no damage. Since I was driving a defective car, I got a ticket and had to go to court. That turned out to be my first, and last traffic ticket.

The most recent of my three accidents was in 1974 when a car ran a stop sign and drove into the side of my car. No one was hurt, but both cars needed trips to the body shop.

In all, I've been very lucky to have had few accidents over so many years and miles of drivng, and to have had no accidents where anyone was hurt.

1 accident, 1 ticket on my record...

In fact today I got a call from my insurance agent telling me that im 3 years without an accident, so I can file for some program which will reduce my insurance cost by another 15% in addition to the money dropped from the accident.

Basically I was driving and it was a bit wet.....i was slowing down at a stoplight next to the highway and I stepped on my brakes and just kept rolling, I had my choice of hit the car or, slide over into the turn lane and roll out onto the highway and get t-boned on the drivers side by a semi going about 55....so yeah I decided that a little damage to my car wasn't as bad as possible death.

The car I hit had 1.59 worth of damage....the glue required to put the reflective trim back on the bumper... and yeah my front bumper was basically hanging off...but fortunately nobody was hurt.

I got rid of that car (finally) a year ago last July and it was way past due for that...

We'll save the ticket story for another thread :D
