Is it bad when are you just sitting at home wishing KICKOFF was here.
Right on I'm so bored don't get me wrong we are doing pre-season stuff ............... BUT is so BORING. How many of you feel this way?

Yeah...I am pretty bored and wish kick-off would get here soon. Though I won't be doing too much during the season, since I am at college and there isn't a team near here YET. But I find things to pass the time like building choppers and rebuilding engines and stuff like that. There is always something you can do or something you can tinker with. Well, today was the last offseason competition, but I went to that and had some fun there.

Same here. Since I'm not building robots, I find other stuff to so. I just spent about 6 hours (!) building a rubber band powered car for my intro to ME class. Needless to say, I'm sure it will win. ;)

My team has spend our like about stuff we need to do but we just cant seem to get it together without a DEADLINE

I enjoy it, actually.

I joined a new team this year (what with going off to college and stuff), so I've been getting to know everyone on the team, helping to run the MiniFIRST competition we run every year, and I'm also working on Chairman's Award. There's plenty of stuff to do. Of course, I'm also taking some classes, which take up a bit of time :-p.

Bottom line, enjoy the peace while it lasts. Build seasons are fun, but not a "build year." At least if you're even remotely sane.

i am trying to keep myself busy with FIRST. working with committee's, running the local FLL regional, also a few projects. but at the same time... i am thinking about the 6 weeks of hell that is coming soon (the students who actually stayed up all night to work on the robot would know what i am talking about) and at the same i am wanting it badly! just like John V. Neun said, "I am hooked on to FIRST, and will never look back." :)

so to answer your question, Julie, No its not bad at all. Its a good thing that you are wanting the kickoff to be as soon as possible... sometimes 2 months looks like its a year away, doesn't it?

If you find the pre-season to be boring, find a local Lego League team to mentor (or try and start one of your own). The FRC pre-season is their competition season.

only problem with a fall robotics we do not have any sponsors and the way we get money is fun-raising(sucksrasing)

It's not boring to me. Right now I'm kind of wishing December 3rd was farther away. We still don't have enough money to pay the registration fee. And I'm in charge of fundraising, basically...

I'm not bored, but rather excited...this year I'm starting to work on some things I'd wished had been done throughout the last pre-season. Looking back on some of the mistakes we made as a rookie team we can improve and prepare ourselves for a better FIRST season this following year...
Not everything needs to be done during those 6 weeks. In fact, many things SHOULDN'T be done throughout the build season...such as training new team members, fundraising, research,...

I dont know if it is bad or not but I do the exact same thing. I really want kickoff to be here. When I am sitting at gymnastics practice or sitting at home I always try to think of what kind of game it might be this year... I really cant wait for kickoff... I will be soo excited to find out what this years game is!!! :D

I'm attempting to keep myself busy with a Gens emulator and a copy of Sonic CD prototypes 510 and 920, and it works. However, I can't wait until January. Heck, I can't wait until Christmas. Unfortunately, time is something that makes one impatient for a certain time of one's well being.

i can't say i'm very bored b/c of FLL and well my tons of hw-- everyone that i know knows i'm always doing hw-- i'm actually not sure how i'll have my energy for build season but i'll find it-- but i can't wait yes b/c it's sooooo much fun and the highlight of my year--FIRST is just addicting what can i say---so yeah it's not a bad thing you want it to come-- i just wish i was very bored

Same for us (except that we had enough money to pay for the pre-deposit cost, not the entire regional), only a very few team members are actually working to find sponsors or donations for the team, when I mean few I mean like two. Also our team wants to try and move onto a new drivetrain (since last year's was a huge failure). Which means pre-fabrication etc, etc, etc, which we haven't started.......

No its not bad at all. We do a Lego Mindstorms Mini-Competition, but it makes me feel like I'm back in Middle School. Its fun, but I really cannot wait until January!!!!!

Go read through chit chat(where this belongs). There should be at least an hour of stuff to read there. Then go read through all the technical forums.

There are also quite a few time consuming games linked to in the chitchat forum.

Perhaps you could go read a book, that is something a lot of people do when they are bored.

Hmm.... pac sonic eh? seems interesting, yet VERY simple! :-P

Well, for me, as a rookie person from the team I'm in, well, we had a big meeting and it seems like we're going to be doing pre-season stuff very soon. Hopefully we'll get 3DS max 7 in and I can practise on that for the competition for FIRST (to build a 15-30 second video on safety). The best thing to do during pre-season is to perfect your skills at whatever you are going to do in robotics. Since I'm pretty much new to 3DS max and not new to anim8or and QuArK, well. I'll learn 3DS max pretty quickly, once I know the interface. Perfecting your techniques and helping others out is the best way to go. If you ever need help, we'll be here :).

Instead of just playing any old game while waiting for kickoff, why not play last year's game (EXE) I did not make it but it is tons of fun. You can even make the robot fly by holding two arrow keys together. :)

Yeah, I have to admit, I really picked a stupid name for this project, but I was at a loss, but the next project will be more fun. Pac-Sonic was merely something I'm doing in my free time (since waiting for January is such a pain).
Version 2.0 of Pac-Sonic is much more worth-while than 1.1.

I actually find this to be an exciting time. You get to meet and have time to get to know the newer members on your team, and get yourselves ready for the build season. To be honest, it's much better getting a ton of stuff out of the way before you go through too much stress with the six weeks.
And no, it isn't bad you want the kickoff to come around. Honestly, it's good because it shows how much you love FIRST and how excited you are for it to start. Good enthusiasm! =) I myself can't wait either and want it to come around. Heck, I keep checking the countdown in my subprofile on AIM. Hehe...

I know the wait before Kickoff can be escruciating, but a watched pot never boils (and it's going to only get worse after school lets out for Winter Break). Cherish this time, and go utilize it to expand your horizons and round yourself out. When I took time off from FIRST, I did something I never expected myself to do - I joined a sorority. Today, both my experiences in FIRST and my experience in Sigma Kappa give me ideas to help aid eachother.

So get out there and explore!

I try not thinking about it....the more you want it to come...the longer its gunna happen or come. Just like the Rascal Flatts concert im goin to tomarrow...for months before it i was excited as excited can be, but i pretended i wasnt goin because if i was excited every day for it to come i knew that the days would go by slowwww lol it will feel really good the day before kickoff because your so excited and its finally come because you havent been thinkin of it the past days/months. So i guess i can say that im not really bored and waiting for it to come...im just bein patient i guess. So just find sumthin to do to get your mind off it or sumthin lol im a busy girl so everything keeps my mind off of certain things and stuff like that.
