Teamless people going to Atlanta

I thought I would put this out there now to start planning. This mostly applies to college students.

I know I am planning to goto Atlanta in 05, but going by myself is not cost effective. I am hoping to find other people with which to share a hotel room with.

Right now is time for interest to be gauged, not commitments. Post if you are planning to go, but would like to room share.

I need sometime to see if I can save up enough for nats, If I can't I'll only go to IRI. I'll try to keep everybody updated.

i am senior in high school. happens to be my team always has been to natonals and we ended up on the last tier... unless we win a regional it doesnt look like SigmaC@T will go to nationals (we are confident that we will win a regional). If anything happens and SigmaC@t doesnt go, me and few of my friends will go to nationals together and volunteer... :)

I'm (likely) going teamless.

Finals start the week after nats... hence the likely

I'll be heading there myself, so I'd definitely be up to sharing a room. If anyone would be taking off out of Bradley in Hartford, I'd be all for trying to get on the same flight too.

Re: Teamless people going to Atlanta

There's a slim (ahem, very slim) chance that I'll be going to nationals with a team ... we'll see. Even if I go with them, though, I'll still probably have to pay my own way. I might have the finances to go to Nationals, but I need some time before I'll know for sure. If I don't get down to Atlanta this year, I'll definitely be going to IRI. I'll also try to keep everyone updated.

I might be going with a team, depending on who qualifies, and such. If not, I'd be interested...

For all you teamless people... we need to figure out when it's convenient for everyone to hang out. Browse the pictures from last year, and you'll see a big group of us that all met at the Hard Rock. That was a ton of fun, and I met a lot of new people (here's looking at you, Mike Walker, Cory, Jeremy Roberts, and starting a tradition of it being Ken's birthday ;) ), and I would LOVE to do that again.

Of course, arrangements can be made after Kickoff, at least... :)

I might be able to go...depending on if I can get a job next semester to fund this excursion!

It might, however, be a good idea to make arrangements for said meetup more than 24 hours before. Most of the planning was done either well after midnight between me and Cory on AIM, or via cell phone from the Detroit airport, the Atlanta subway system, and the street corner in front of the
Hard Rock Cafe.

Oh, and DJ, regardless of what Kokomo schools taught you, 6 does not equal 11.

BAH! who needs money? You don't need to eat.

I Decided it was time to start talking about this again... since it is now after kickoff and well on the way to being planning time.

If I needed to, I could probably survive that trip off of a continental breakfast each morning (if I had to)...but everything else costs money. Travel will cost at least $100...flying or driving...unless some people want to carpool down there (long drive from here) and split gas money. And then I need somewhere to stay, unless you know somewhere I can stay for free!

I'm driving down there, teamless as far as the competition goes. I found a room a few miles from downtown for about fifty a night, which I'd be more than happy to go fourthsies with. There's somewhere between one and three slots left--I've got some leads out.

But yeah--PM me or IM me or send smoke signals if you'd be up for such a deal.

I'm looking for a room. I may be driving down with some other people though, but a common hotel for non team peopel would be awesome. What hotel will you be at?

Re: Teamless people going to Atlanta

FYI: I'm going as a FIRST volunteer again, but this year I may be in need of a room to share with at least three other college students. Personally, I'd be willing to spend some money to get a nice hotel room really close to the Georgia Dome (up to $200/night). If we get four people in a room; each person only has to pay for one night!

Currently, I'm looking at the Days Inn Atlanta Southlake in Morrow, GA. (my sole link so far is through Travelocity, which apparently does dynamic links. grrr). $50.66 per night, although I'm sure that doesn't include taxes.

Just a quick note: Traffic is going to pretty bad on Thurs and Friday morning/afternoon if you stay that far outside the perimeter (if you leave really early in the morning and come back late it shouldn't be an issue though). I live north outside the perimeter and work downtown. Without traffic it takes me 25-30min, with traffic it can take an hour or more.

Then again the hotel prices are a bit cheaper. The package deals downtown are really good in my opinion though. :)

<edit>
Of course we can't forget MARTA. :) If the hotel is near a stop then you're all good.

Re: Teamless people going to Atlanta

There's a Super 8 or Motel 6 or something fairly close to the Georgia Dome (i.e within walking distance). It was about $50 a night last year. I personally didn't really have much of a problem with it but there were a number of other teams complaining about it so you may want to take that into consideration. It definitely wasn't great by any means but it was a place to sleep.

Do not, i reapeat, do NOT stay at the super8. Avoid it at all costs.

It is dirty, small and downright disgusting. I was bitten by a spider of some sort while sleeping, and it turned into just a miserable experience.

I personally would never even think of staying there again!

I'm considering heading down to Nats this year. I haven't been since the last time it was in Florida. I'll have to see if I can pool some money together and whether or not I can find people to share a room with and such.

Re: Teamless people going to Atlanta

Well looks like im gonna buss it down, i can get round trip from PA for 60 bucks, but like so many others, A room is a problem, i went to hotels.com and there was a "Castleberry Inn Georgia Dome", but im not entirely certain how close the dome it is. the average room price for 4 people is 80 a night. The description says it is a brand new hotel.

Im me if at all interested, or have suggestions.

So, any more news? I've gotten my trip down taken careof, but am still lacking in room accomidations! My gf found a hostel on MARTA somewhere for $20 a night, but still looking to see if I can 1) get cheaper through volune 2) increase the fun by being with everyone else.

Due to one person dropping out of our room, myself, Jake Gallagher, and Greg Perkins are looking for one more roommate. We are staying at the Hyatt, Wednesday through Sunday, and the price would be $170.

PM/email/IM me if you're interested.

Team 1279 is going to Nationals, and as we are from Somerville, New Jersey, if someone needs a team from the area to fly down with, they're welcome to come with us and stay.

Re: Teamless people going to Atlanta

If anyone needs a cheap way to get to Atlanta..you might want to try finding a train or bus ticket. They are typically cheaper then plane tickets and fuel to drive (assuming you live by Detroit like me and it's an 11 hour drive). I'm going down with 1023 on Delta from Detroit, its worth the $225 or so i think...

right now i am suppose to be staying with my grandparents, but that might fall through, if that does happen i need a place to stay. I def want to have a get together like Amanda mentioned on page one of the thread

Right now I'm trying to convince my mother that I need to drive instead of taking a plane. I think it will be easier than trying to find taxis and stuff when we get down there. I still have no idea where we're going to stay though, this is so last minute.

Is it too late to find a place for a couple people to stay? My friend and I were planning on going, but our plans fell through when we didn't get a fourth person for our quad...is there a room down there that needs 2 people, or is there a room that needs one and will be willing to let us sleep on the floor?

Take the MARTA if you are close enough...

You can buy an unlimited ride pass for thursday-sunday at the airport or certain places around the city for 10 bucks

RAGE FRC Team 173 has an extra room at the Embassy Suites Centennial Park hotel available, adjacent to the park and across the street from the venue. I believe it has a King size bed in the bedroom and a queen size sleep sofa in the living room - can sleep 4 comfortably if some bunk out on the floor. Has frig and microwave and full breakfast. If interested, PM me or e-mail me.

The extra room is no longer available.
