Re: Motors this season

If all design and prototyping ended at the end of the 6 weeks then we would not see some of the great designs that come forward. If doing design before the 6 weeks is cheating, then using the same design as you used in the past seasons could also be defined as cheating as well. I think it is outrageous to view designing before the 6 weeks as cheating. It isnt like anyone can set in stone their designs as they do not know the game. I know my team, although we dont have the time or extra money, to build and test new drivetrains in the off season, we do design and CAD our ideas. We will probably end up changing a lot of it during build season once we find out the game. Designing before the six weeks is a great way to get ideas from rookies, and to teach them the basics. FIRST is not just a competition and inspiration for six weeks out of the year, it is meant to continue throughout the year. It would be cheating if the team used the transmission that they machined in the offseason on the robot, but I don't see putting your ideas down on paper as cheating. Designs are just ideas, you cant make it against the rules to think during the offseason. I dont mean to offend anybody or make anyone mad I accept your opinions and I ask that you read and consider mine before giving negative rep points.

As it goes for motors I'm going to say FisherPrice in some form, Chip, Globe, and some type of drill motor whether it be another bosch or a dewalt xrp (these would be nice)

Just my $.02
