I guess if you can't get in at your school you can just all stay at somebody's house...sounds just as fun...

K.Shaw and Elgin didn't mention this but we have a similar problem so the lock-in is held off school property. Trying to get the school would be almost impossible and if we did we would have to pay for custodial coverage the whole time we're there. We would actually be paying overtime for the custodians. The school board is aware of our lock-in but they have no say because it's not on school property and none of the faculty members attend. Think of it similar to holding a birthday party. ;)
Since none of the teachers involved with our team attend, for the adults we have several parents of the students and mentors like Elgin, me and a few others for supervision.

This idea was kicked around, however, since my team is a west coast team, we get up at 5AM to go to drive to the remote kickoff site. Then we caravan back to the build-site, eat lunch, break into groups to think about the game, and everyone is pretty spent by 4PM so everyone is sent home to brainstorm and come back the next day refreshed!

I don't think it will be to hard to get district approval, Our student council has lock-ins just before homecoming week to decorate. I don't think we will be doing much brainstorming. I think the idea was to start thinking about the game, but mostly have workshops and a movies.

I think starting the season off with a lock-in is a bad idea. You will likely endup sleep deprived by the end of the season, no reason to start off the season that way. I do like the idea of one in December though. It would be a good team building excercise.

well liek i said you can also have a lock in well in advance like we are having ours 3 weeks before kick off...its just a time when the team can bond and get to know each other more since you will be spending a whole lot of time with these strangers!

Re: Kick-off lock-in

all we need to have a lock in is a building permit and permission slips from everyone who is going...doesn't sound too tough!

For the lock in, we plan to do a bunch of team building type activities also. so far we have ideas like flashlight tag, and capture the flag..things like that. if you have any other ideas for fun team games, i would appreciate your ideas. thanks!

Re: Kick-off lock-in

we've been wanting to do a lock in for the past couple of years. A lot of the sports teams at our school do them. But our advisors told us we werent alowed to, do to the fact there are girls and guys. and a few of us are in relationships with each other. Have any of you (especially mentors) found problems with not being able to trust students. or any incidents
