New Team From Australia!!!
I was just checking the list of registered teams and noticed that not only are there now exactly 1000 (!) teams registered for 2005, but there is a new team hailing from Perth, Western Australia! :ahh:
Team 1681 - University of Western Australia & Chisholm Catholic College They are currently registered for the Buckeye Regional in Cleveland, Ohio. I'd like to welcome Australia to the official FIRST community! |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
This is true. I believe this is a team founded by 461 alumni (still in highschool) Nelson DeSouza, unless there is more than one Australia team.
I commend the Australia team for coming out hear to compete. Huge commitment, as I believe Build Season is on their summer break? |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
Is 461 from Ohio? Why else would an Australian team come to Ohio, rather than a West coast regional.
Well.. we soon shall see. Welcome to the games Australia! |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
This is awesome... First a regional in Israel... now team from Australia.
i can see one regional at a lot of other countries, probably by 2010, there will be about 100s of regionals. Welcome to FIRST team 1681. :) |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
this is very cool news!!!
welcome to a great community of ppl!! i hope they dont' have trouble shipping their robots--- our school has a hard time getting textbooks for ib from australia for lovely math methods (i'm sry to the class of 06 for that problem)--all well it's all good FIRST is getting so big and it's just great :) |

Wherever they end up going, it's great to see FIRST spread to yet another country/continent! |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
Travis,
Have your main contact enter the TIMS system, and plug in the team number to obtain contact info. As long as our Australian friends entered the info for public display, it should be viewable. I think offering them support now is key! |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
The coolest thing this season is the amount of foreign teams that have joined FIRST. Like the French team that is going to Chicago. The sudden explosion of Brazilian teams (6 of them going to New Jersey) the continued strong growth of teams in Canada (including teams outside of Ontario). A new team in England ( at Chesepeak) and a team in Ecuador. FIRST has truly become an international sensation.

Re: New Team From Australia!!!
This is so cool! I'm excited now, though I don't even know this team nor are they coming anywhere close to Maryland. But welcome, Team 1681! =)

Re: New Team From Australia!!!

Also, awesome to hear about this new team from Australia! In a few years we'll have a Hemispheres competition in Equator or some Pole :D And seems Cyber Blue and Chris Fultz will have a hard time trying to find American partners for all those new teams. What a huge leap for the FIP's! ;) |
Oh no!!!
Team 1681 is no longer registered for Buckeye and Team 1639 from France is no longer registered at Chicago.
What happened? |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
First off, welcome to FIRST australia! Secondly, i think they are just trying to trump the British and Brazilian teams for furthest distance traveled for a high school field trip.
Good luck in Ohio |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
Welcome to all the international rookie teams from Australia, Israel, France, England, Mexico, Brazil, and Ecuador! (sorry if I missed anyone) And of course welcome to all the new Canadian and American teams, too! Hoping that we'll have all 50 states covered soon and further expansion outside North America in the near future.

They were going to be at Chicago. |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
On the topic of why the Brazilians arn't atteneding the Boilermake regional seeing as how Nelson (461 Alumni) essentially founded them, I'm guessing it has a lot to deal with the lack of an international airport in West Lafayette. It would be really cool to see him and his team come, but I think logisticly it would be to diffiuclt in comparison to Ohio or Chicago...

Re: New Team From Australia!!!
looks like becoming a world event, with more continents
us europeans, them australasians and you americans (i'm counting both north and south america) yay go first oh and there was a french team , they contacted us, but where too late registering, and the german team from a coupla years ago never got anywhere as far as i can tell |
Re: New Team From Australia!!!
hmmm... That's too bad that they were late... They should just show up in NH and the Maryland Regional because that's where we are... hehehe... It would be awesome talking to a team from another country... God knows we had so much fun talking to 1156 (from Brazil)... We learned a lot from them...

Re: New Team From Australia!!!
I guess nobody has heard from this team? I'm in Australia...granted, in a different state...But Id love to get in touch with their team leader for a general chat regardless, perhaps see if there's anything that I can do to help them ---- who knows, maybe even work with them to get other uni's in aus interested and get a couple more teams going down here... I still havent given up on getting a Melbourne team up & running ---- it's just a little challenging to start from grass roots in a country with no FIRST support whilst in the middle of med school! But, you guys were correct in your assumptions - it's summer break here... How on earth they get to competition when it's in the middle of the year, in mid year examination period here...Dont know. Anyways, if anyone knows any more about this team, I'd love to hear it...multiple searches in multiple locations havent turned up anything for me!
