Ten years

I have a question for you. How many teams have been around for ten or more years? I see lots of teams that come and go. How many of you have shipped a robot every year for ten (or more) in a row? Time flies when you are having fun!

Team 85

Team 116 is celebrating our ten year anniversary this year! We have built and shipped a robot every year, and have had nearly 200 students pass through the team roster.

Steve

I had forgotten we were rookies the same year. Team 71 is also getting it's ten year pin this year.

I believe the Technokats are going into their 14th (or 15th) year/season for '04-'05. They have also shipped a robot for all 14/15 years. It's weird, for me it seems like just a few years ago I was on the team celebrating the 10th year. :ahh:

Re: Ten years

This year will be our 7th year as team 222 the Tigertrons. It will be our 9th year that our school has been involved.

For two years we have a different number and were involved as a group of schools not just good old Tunkhannock High School.

Re: Ten years

Our first year at Woburn was 1995. We were in a competition called Canada First. We competed there for 3 years and then became the first (I believe) Canadian team to join FIRST were we have competed every year since. This will make our 11th year of entering robots but only our 8th at FIRST.

Re: Ten years

Like 222, 84 has had some changes through the years. Chuck, however, has been our robot's name (or nickname) for nine years. We also were part of the same multi-school team as 222 in our first year, 1997. Almost 100 miles each way got kind of old, kind of fast! In 1998, WATTNESS originated, as SWATT, and then recently changed to Chuck 84, because our robot's name seems to be more recognizable than the former team name.

We may be approaching golden oldie status, too!

Re: Ten years

We also are celebrating our 10th anniversary in the FIRST competition!
CD1, CD2, CD3 ... oh you get it, anyways - we have been kicking around the idea of collaborating (hope this is politically correct) in developing a "Class of 96" commemorative T shirt with any other 10th year anniversary teams that would be interested. Just haven't had time to find out which teams from 1996 are still around, so I'm glad that you started this thread.
Thanks

my old team 312 is is on it's 11th year of competition. Many different sponsors, team names, team #s, and mentors. The school though has shipped a robot every year despite changes in sponsors and other things.

Re: Ten years

this will be year ten for me also. i started as a student in '96.

progression:

year 1 - team 1 - three dimensional services, now juggernauts, driver

year 2 - team 94 - lear corporation, now technojays i think, driver

year 3 - team 68 - truck town terror, now truck town thunder, driver

year 4 - team 221 - MI Roboworks, temporarily retired, driver, designer

(this was the team i started from scratch and built with friends in my basement!, i picked beatty and team rush in the finals....we lost to wildstang and placed fourth at nationals.)

year 5 - team 221 - MI Roboworks, i moved the team to Michigan Tech after i graduated high school, mentor, engineer

year 6 - team 221 - MI Roboworks, mentor, engineer

year 7 - team 857 - Superior Roboworks, changed the name and number when Tech officially sponsored the team, mentor, engineer

Year 8 - team 857 - mentor, engineer

year 9 - team 857 - mentor, engineer

year 10 - team 27 - came full circle and returned home to join team rush, though i was never on their team Kyle Hughes was one of my original mentors. i'm now back at the OSMTech Academy to mentor and design robots. probably not for long. look for team 221 to be resurrected in year 11.

reminds me, i have to change my signature!

Re: Ten years

Team 5 has been around since (the octagon ring) 98 - so that only makes them 7 years old - 8 including this year.

Many people make the mistake we where around since FIRST started - but 1998 was the last year they changed the numbers every year - so we got lucky! :D

I've been involved with FIRST for 6 years now (including this year). Does seem like the years really slip by when you are having fun (I can rember the Original ramp/hang from the bar year and the 4v0 years ;))

Re: Ten years

My former team (now #74) has been around since the 1995 season (11 years) and have competed every year. Same school and sponsor since the beginning (Holland High School & Haworth). They've since added another sponsor though (Magna-Donnelly).

My current team (as Kelly said) is celebrating 10 years this year. It's quite interesting actually when I think back to 96, when such well-known names as Beatty and Wildstang were just rookies! :) In a lot of ways things were different back then but in a lot of ways they haven't changed much. I remember in 1995 that it would have been quite possible to meet every single team member at the Championship if you tried. I can't imagine trying anything like that today!

I just want to revive this thread. We are working on a press release regarding our program and want to have good information regarding just how unique a 10+ year run is in FIRST. Thanks for your help.
