iPod Question

Does the Apple iPod also work like an external hard drive as the Apple iPod from HP does? You know, like being able to hook up via USB or Firewire and use it like a flash memory drive. And does the iPod from HP even do this?
I'm trying to figure out which one to get.
Thanks

Re: iPod Question

They are the same player insider, just the box and manual differ. So to answer your question, yes, they both act as an external HD, and they also both hook up to the Belkin Media Reader to store photos, and record sound using the iTrip.

If you are a PC user, get the HP, it has better support and offerings. If you want the Apple only branding and/or have a Mac, you should get the one direct from Apple. HP dose not support Mac formatted Apple + HP iPod.

Yeah, the only difference is the additional 'HP' logo on the back, a different box, and support comes from HP rather than Apple. Everything else is the same.

Apple offers free 90 day support, HP offers one full year. That's a huge difference, but I mean, I know no one who has had their iPod brake or need to call Apple support.

Yes, if you format your iPod in FAT32 it can be read by PCs and Macs as an external hard drive. You won't be able to directly access your music though, they are hidden files.

One interesting thing to point up. You can make text files that can be stored in a "Notes" folder, these can be read by the iPod screen.

And yes if your primary computer is a wintel box, than the HP pod will be a better bet for you

Re: iPod Question

My primary computer is a Dell. I use Windows XP SP2.

And my iPod is an Apple. No problems whatsoever, straight from the box.
