As the excitement builds I thought that this might be a good question to ask.

As much as I love Kickoff, Christmas is much better in my book. My whole family doesn't give me presants for kickoff, nor do i get the day off of school, or that friday before, darn it, maybe i should try for that one.:D

christmas may be exciting and a time of family and joy, but Kick off is far less stressful. I can do what I love to do 'Think and Act'.

Kickoff definitely wins on the stress factor.

However, Christmas is the way I can afford to get to things like Kickoff or the Championship. So I have to give the edge to Christmas.

From a materialistic standpoint...
Christmas-Lots of goodies and new electronic toys
Kickoff-Lots of goodies and bigger better electronic toys and maybe some inflatable clowns this year!
Who cares about stress for either event when there is no school \m/
Kickoff is definitly weighing down its side of the balance, for me anyway. :D

I'm looking forward to both, but moreso Kickoff. Yes, I love being with my family, no question. This is a very rare thing with my family, considering we're all busy and such. We hardly see each other.
But robotics is the one thing that keeps me more sane than anything. (Yes, yes, I can actually be sane.) =D
Christmas is becoming less of a big thing for me, traditionally. I find it to be very uplifting spiritually, of course, but it's no big deal for me with the presents and stuff.
Kickoff is really going to be something, mainly because it involves something I'm not expecting. Christmas I always expect the usual thing.
Heck I have a countdown in my profile for Kickoff going for goodness sakes!! ;)
I'm excited for Christmas, don't get me wrong..good spiritual thing. But yeah...Kickoff just plain rocks. =D

Kickoff, because that gives me something to do for six weeks straight. The stuff i get for Christmas will keep me entertained for a few days. :ahh: :ahh:

Well, I love christmas as much as the next person, but I mean holidays have never been as fuzzy wuzzy as society would like to make them appear. Robotics for me though really is hard to beat. Though tiring and exhausting, the memories you build are priceless. Kickoff gets the cookie in my oppinion.

Christmas is good but way to short, and predictable. You told people what you would like, giving you a good idea for what is to come. Kickoff is like buying a big miscellaneous box of things off ebay. You NEVER know what you are going to get. Kickoff is also the beginning of a much longer thing. It gives you the chanse to get together and start FIRST life again. Now what is a better present than getting fun and stress!

Xmas, of course. It entails a vacation period with presents, rest, relaxation, family, and food, things that FIRST deprives us of during the strenuous and testing build period (not complaining though). How could kickoff be more important than that? I care about the entire season and the time that I get to work with my teammates and mentors. Kickoff is a 3 hour webcast for me.

Christmas isn't as fun as it used to be (if I want something I go out and buy it. To me tax day is Christmas - $2500 in the bank is a great present! :D ) while I in the throes of FIRST addiction so I love the excitment of build season so I am eager to see what the new game will be.

The Kickoff definitely trumps Christmas/Chanukah or my birthday. I can never really think of things I would want (with the exception of my laptop last year) for those occasions, but I always look forward to the games, hoping they’ll be better and better. To me, there’s nothing more exciting than seeing the black curtains come down exposing the new field/game (and I’ve only seen it via webcast/telecast, never live). That moment has been my Christmas for the past 5 years, and will be again this year.

It's kickoff all the way. I mean sure, I love presents and eating food until I'm fat. But it only leads up to New Year's Eve, which leads to kickoff. So while it's good, it's really just a stepping stone to kickoff.

i feel that, i actually need to get more than 2-4 hrs of sleep per night, so christmas is definitely a good time for that. getting the best games of the year that i dont have already is also a big plus.

WORK!!!

Right now im working about 30hrs a week, and being a HS student it sucks majorly!!! and i work in a music store that plays X-mas music OVER and OVER and OVER!!! i have heard everything from the Now X-mas, to Jessica simpsons, to Destiny's child, to Jimmy buffet, to reagea (sp), to the manchevista or Trans-Siberian orchestra (sp)(its the orchestra w/ guitars and stuff).... ALL of it x-mas music... over and over and over...

CHRISTMAS MUST PASS QUICKER!!! and to add it all together my b-day is tommrow and i hate having my x-mas next to b-day... (wait said that backwards... oh well)

My solution-have my family give me my christmas presents before i go to kickoff, then have my birthday like a week later, so i might just ask for those early then. I shall call it Birckomas.

I must concur with you. EXCEPT, I don't have a job at all. Most of the christmas music I hear comes from the radio, and most of it I have heard enough of already. It's just evedence that Christmas has gotten a bit too commercialized. Not good.

HOWEVER, I really can't wait for XMAS. Presents take a back seat. Frankly I don't care about them. It's the gatherings I goto that really hold the spirit, along with ACTUAL SINGING with my mom strumming her guitar. Not to mention, I may just pull an all-nighter going to midnight mass this year. :D

I guess xmas is fun, but even during the xmas season I'm focussed on the upcoming FIRST season.

I certainly don't spend all year preparing for another Christmas!

Christmas is a lot of fun. maybe it would be funner if i had snow here. anywho, i want christmas to get here already so alteast it gets closer to the kickoff. and just like someone said, it feels like, it takes 10 years for the kickoff to come but the season passes by so quickly. :)

Most definitely Kickoff!!! I love the suspense and surprise... Christmas has kind of lost that feeling anymore and I can't say that receiving material things weighs highly for me, though I do love giving people presents. Kickoff is sort of like Christmas reincarnated... we get to "open up" one huge present, except without all the wrapping paper to clean up afterwords, and then follow through with a whole 6 weeks of madness and many more weeks of madness that comes with competitions. I can't wait!!!

Okay so its that time of the year again. Which is better? Kickoff or Christmas. It is so Kickoff, because the excitement that Kickoff has and the knowledge that you only have 6 weeks to build something that does exactly what it is supposed to do, is so much better than Christmas. Now don't get me wrong but christmas is fun, however i don't spend all the time i have extra getting ready for Christams.

I think I'd look forward to Kickoff more if I were given a machine shop (and machinist, for that matter) for Christmas. It'd relieve a lot of my stress if I had the ability to prototype things in the offseason.

:hands down: Kickoff..... got my vote. It used to be closer to NYE, the whole culmination of the Holiday Season with NYE, then in two days or so Kickoff was amazing. For me, still its Kickoff - it's one giant unknown surprise of a never ending journey. :]

Unlike Christmas (gifts), FIRST kickoff always gives me a surprise I know I'll like and use to its potential.

p.s. I might be joining you Orlando folks at your remote kickoff. I'm vacationing in the Orlando area from Dec 29 - Jan 9. I'm now regretting that I'll miss the live kickoff in New Hampshire, but attending a remote one would be cool too. :cool:

Let's see.. I have a countdown until Kickoff, but I have no idea whatsoever (off the top of my head) of how many days are left until Christmas :o.. Guess the answer is Kickoff!

Kickoff is the secular holiday for robotics nerds - lol - i still voted for christmas though due to the good spirits and fun.

Kickoff is great.....and I get to spend it with some great people on my Team....but kickoff is but one day.

Christmas is much more than a day. It is much more than just what happens in any one place. There are parties and lunches st work, there are celebrations at Church, and of course, all sorts of family things. (in fact, for me, it is almost en entire December activity)

Kick-off is great.....but not quite in the same league.

But besides that, ya I'd go with Kickoff. I like Christmas too, so both are almost equal, but kickoff is what I'm looking foward to more.

FIRST is more a part of my "religion" than christmas is :D

christmas is about giving and getting, but at kickoff everybody gains tremendously without giving anything more than their attention

Kickoff is definitely more fun and exciting then Christmas. Besides once kickoff is over you get to build the best toy (oh I mean robot :eek: ) ever...what could be more fun than that???

Hmmm, I would say either is good for me. I know when the holidays come along, the kickoff is right around the corner. Either way, it is a truly inspirational / magical time of year.

Kickoff duh....One thing I get out of school for a few days to go to the tournaments when for x-mas you only get maybe 3 weeks off then you have to go back. (that should sound better but who cares). I mean the stuff I get for x-mas can only hold attention for a few days while robotics can hold it for 6 weeks straight. You do the math :-P

:D This is going to be my second year in FIRST and to me it is more exciting to wait for the kickoff because Christmas is important but i know what to expect. On the other hand for kickoff is unkowng and i just cant wait...
