Re: 2005 UTC New England Regional

We're planning the tailgating party now... but we are soliciting help from other local teams this year so we can expand our food choices. I hope to get an e-mail out to teams who will be attending the UTC regional this week. Please share this with your teams - several teams commented last year that they didn't know about it in advance. We had lots of fun last year, including a race between a segway and Dean... at least, it looked like Dean! And who can forget eating our birthday cake out of the back of the pickup truck?

Who: anyone who comes to the UTC New England Regional
What: Second Annual Tailgating Party (it's a tradition now)
When: Saturday, March 12, 2005 Sunrise (OK, maybe a little after sunrise)
Where: Meadows Music Theatre parking lot
Why: Because RAGE likes to party

For more info, PM or e-mail me.

If you are coming to the UTC Regional please mention it to your teams and then e-mail me if you are interested in helping out.

Invitations went out this week to all leaders for teams attending the UTC New England Regional. We're looking for some help from other teams. Please be sure your team leader gets back to us with headcount if you're planning to join us this year for the tailgating breakfast... we had too much extra food last year! Either that or come with a bigger appetite. If there's anything you'd really like to see us provide for breakfast (within reason), let me know.

Looking forward to seeing you all on March 12.

Due to the impending storm which is scheduled to hit the Connecticut area tomorrow and Saturday, our plans to host the second annual UTC New England Regional tailgating party in the parking lot at the Meadows may need to be cancelled. An announcement will be made at the Meadows tomorrow if we need to cancel the event. :(

We thought about having snowcones instead of pancakes with maple syrup on them, but it didn't hold the same appeal! If you have any question about Saturday's tailgating breakfast, please see me or Mr. K. or Mr. Nye at the event tomorrow.

Is it me, or is this a there a real lot of aggressive teams out there?

Team 1071 is like a 14ft target, team 69 intentionally tipped us while we triped breaking their triple play and capping 7 goals on the center goal. (we're not exactly happy with them, although after our 90pt match with them, we'd be their partner)

I also noticed like team 1453 knock over team 230, although that didnt seem as intentional as 69 knocking us over.

Team 546 was telling me they're getting beat up, except their alliance partners are comeing through.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting, just kind of fustrateing, because we have some really good teams like 1071 and especially 230 who are scoreing 4-5-6 tetras a match and alliances aren't offering much help.

Lots of good teams with 5-4-0 records , 4-4-1 records.

Unfortunately we have had to cancel our plans to tailgate tomorrow morning. Thank you to all teams who offered to purchase food or help us cook and serve!

Please stop by the RAGE area in the stands so we can say hello!

...

Having just joined the CD community recently, I did not see this until now. In hindsight, the fact that team 69 and 1071 teamed up in the finals might make all this seem ironic.

However, for what it is worth, I have been involved with FIRST for 10 years now and have seen and been involved with dramatic and defensive play for much of it...anyone from team 121 from WAY BACK would remember the year of the "flipper", one of the years that tipping machines over was actually legal. Good defensive play makes for great crowd pleasing action, and many times, it is the right strategy for winning.

All of this to say, I am sorry that you feel like we intentionally tipped you, and we lived with the decision of the referees, but I feel like you need to know that our coach did not say to the drivers, "Hey, yank over team 1071!" The tipping happened, but the intent was not there.

Thanks again for graciously accepting our alliance offer and thanks for helping to make the UTC finals matches one of the more talked about this year.

Yea, that was the day of the tipping i made that post. We weren't exactly the happiest group of people at the time because from where I was with the advisers it looked intentional. We had that 14ft arm up, and it looked like we got rammed into, backed up, and rammed into again which the next day we talked to somebody on your team and they said they got bumped back into us or something.

Obviously you guys knew what our team could do or you wouldn't have picked us on the second seeded alliance. It was just a situation that 1071 knew we belonged on a top 3 alliance and just having our alliances in qualifing get penalty after penalty and then the tipping incident, it kind of made us flip out with our poor ranking.

The tipping incident is forgotten and actually helped us in a way, we realized our 14ft arm is really strong and is a design that will be used again in the future. 1071 has all intentions on trying to make an alliance with 69 and 126 at beantown if it all works out with the rankings.
