If you looked at the field parts list, it says something about a magnet. That has me thinking the most.

"something between Pi, You and Me"
Maybe since pi being the 16 letter of the greek alpahbet it could mean there is only 16 balls. Let two bots represent you and me and that the balls are between them.

With the unassisted triple plays, the order in which one occurs must do like so:
1. Catch a Ball
2. Touch a Base
3. Touch an opponent
This are possible clues that these are just hints to some of the tasks.
If you look at the greek alphabet, what is between pi, "Y" and "M" for "you" and "me" you get words like box and off. Maybe i'm wrong but I think we may have to move blocks around.

Oh man... The game is revealed in less than 12 hours!!! I'm so pumped... I still say 3 vs 3 or 2 vs 2 vs 2.... 6 robots on the field... haha... Hopefully the game will be as exciting as it was last year with that amount of involvement with the human player... FIRST never seizes to amaze me... We shall see tomorrow morning...

hmmm, Pi's realtionship to a pyramid, could the clue be pertaining to an event of the game, possibly a "king of the hill" or mayb a finishing point, OR mayb we've got to move something uphill

OOOH.

King of the Hill--I hadn't thought of that.

But wouldn't it be dangerous for the robots? I imagine that FIRST doesn't want to produce a situation in which a robot could undergo serious harm if it fell. It wouldn't be like dropping off of the bar--it would tumble.

Well. We'll find out in....10 hours?

I highly doubt it would be a King of the Hill type of game because it would hurt the robots, but in 2003 the game was like that basically so you never know. I do think there will be a pyramid of some sort on the field somewhere. Maybe more then one. Maybe a giant cube, a giant pyramid, and a giant ball. But I am way too excited right now to think.

its worthless to speculate any more... but i will any way. i think that Pi is making a reference to possibly a ring or some other circular scoring object. as to the rest of the hint, no clue. few more hours...

I can't wait to find out the game just to see if speculation was correct on any part of it :)

Amythist was probably just the red/blue combination. Plus, it was probably something regarding the color sensors. The Pi thing was related to the pyramid and the new programming language. And, George Burns and John Neun were used because of the game's name "Triple Play." Pi, You and Me was the 3 v. 3 thing, at least, that's what I think.

Since Dave didn't cover the clue on the broadcast, I asked him afterwords about it. He smiled and said, "I guess that's something we forgot to cover, it seemed like I did that on purpose." Here are is explanations...

-the amethist clue- amethist's molecular structure is in the form of a tetra.
-george burns and john neun- the both did tripple plays, the name of this year's game.
-"If you look and you will see" pertains to the fact that the robots can see this year
-"Between Pi, You, Me."- Pi = 3.14ish, You and Me = 2, between 3.14 and 2 is 3, the number of teams in an alliance this year.
-"Something at the VA Science center reminded me about next year's game." - In an exhibit, there was a pendulum that swayed back and forth in the sand, the structure holding it up was a tetra.

That's funny--

So all of our excess musings about pyramids and I.M. Pei and the VCU tops of the buildings were all off.

Hmm.

Ok, I'm thinking about this 'Pi' and 'look very closely' and the fact it's between 'You' and 'Me'. Also, the speculation about moving IR beacons.

I'm guessing that there will be some sort of IR beam (look very closely) moving about in a circular pattern (Pi) in the middle of the field (between 'You' and 'Me'). Oh! From a large tetra, maybe?

I'm also guessing that capturing, or tagging this beam somehow would get you team a higher score, but somehow hinder your teammates. (Therefore helping the other team somewhat. Get it? Purple!)
Maybe it would reverse the color sensors on both team's robots, causing them to see red 'bots as blue 'bot, and vice versa?

That's my look at it. It's got to be some way to get extra points, I guessing.

edit: oh, wait. the game was already revieled. my bad. :yikes:

I'm also really sort of surprised that no one picked up on the clues in this message, even after the fact. Billfred usually doesn't miss ones like this! ("vision" ... "three elements" ... "sensing-mobility-manipulation" ... "pyramid" ... "see their way" ... "look for a few ideas")
