Virtual Kit of Parts?
I've been checking hte virtual kit of parts streamline repository and as far as i can tell its empty. Does anyone know when FIRST will put up the kit of parts. I really want to start modelling with their new gearbox and chassis.

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
When Phil Dollan was giving his Training Sessions there was always a question asked at the end: "When will the Virtual Kit of Parts be posted?" The answer was always "Mid to Late Next Week" They are probably modeling them as we speak

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
It was in the Email that was sent to you, hopefully. If you didn't get it then the username is: (public)
Yes with the parentheses. No password |
Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
Man they need to get on it! I want them Files!
|
Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
Well you can always draw the parts you want /need anyway... ;)
If you need them soon, get the parts you need and draw them! |
Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
well the big advantage of the digital parts for me, is that I don't need the actual parts on hand. We have a limited number of hours in our lab and i'm not able to take parts home(i use a New York City subway) so i'm limited in my access to details. ah well i guess i can wait...

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
Most of the parts are still online from previous years. Look on the CD portal at the links. If they are not ther, PM me and I will post last year's.

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
The 2005 VKoP is now up on streamline...

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts - Update
1 Attachment(s)
Just a heads-up that the posted VKoP is not complete yet, but a little birdie informs me that the parts from IFI (drivetrain system and kit frame) will be posted very soon.
Also, the flasher that is in the posted VKoP is the wrong one for this year's competition - it is the old rotating beacon from 2003 and earlier. |
Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
This is the first year I'm doing the virtualbot stuff, so I have a feeling that I'm going to get an obvious answer to this question, but nonetheless:
Up on streamline? What/Where/Huh? Where do I find this? |

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
I did not see the Fuse Panel when scanning through the VKOP. Did I just miss it or is it there?

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
I got permission to install the trial of Inventor 8 on my home computer, but it crashes when trying to work with assemblies and some other comands. My computer is powerful enough though. The trial of Inventor 4 (Yes I know it's old :o ) worked fine. Did this problem happen with anyone else? Or is there a work around to open the files anyway?

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
I have a 1.9 GHz AMD with 768 MB of RAM runninng Win XP. I could have large assembly open with shiny materails rotating with very little of slowing down in Inventor 4.
It doesn't seem to be crashing becase I did too much, but that there is a problem with the program. Inventor just quits on me. Only when it crashed with a part tool did it give me a message about sending a report to Autodesk. Becuase we have dial up, I couldn't sent it then with someone on the phone (not me :) ) I would appreciate help so I can open the VKoP. We want to know exactly how heavy our bot is going to be. |
Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
Yeah, your computer should definitely be good enough. You might want to check your graphics card settings on the "Hardware" tab of the "Application Options" (under "Tools") making sure it's compatible and such.
If all else fails, you could try reinstalling, but I'm not sure what this entails as far as keeping your license. I've used Inventor for four years, and I've found it to be fairly reliable and crash-resistant in my experience. Hopefully someone else has more insight on problems like this :( |
Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
The graphics card is OK. There isn't a usuall license becuase it is just a trial. So what if I lose a day, the design team hasn't found a final arm design yet, so I'm ok. Oh! Are there updates for inventor 8? I'll check that and tell you if it helps.
OK...Now it works. I just installed the updates (a lot of them) and it seems OK They made the VKoP look good, but they didn't change the materials from default. I hoped the battery would really weigh 12 lbs. I'll have to edit them... Oh well... |
Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?

Re: Virtual Kit of Parts?
One thing that I noticed helped our team with the kit of parts was having the full playing field. Out team has made it and have also made it avaliable to download for you use at our website www.pennrobotics.org/files. It was build in Autodesk Inventor 8 and you also have to download the winrar340.exe-WinRar file to beable to view it.
