Flash Version of Playing Field

While watching the Kickoff yesterday, i realized that this year is gonna be very heavy on strategy, so I spent 3 hours developing a flash version of the field. You can move around tetras and robots and everything. heres a link to it http://robotics.flawlesshosting.net/RoboField.swf

let me know (by email, pm, or by an instant messanger) if your team would like to host it on their teamsite.

version 1.1 is made. I'm working on the other ideas that have been suggested.

Please try to send me an e-mail at boy_scout72688@yahoo.com when you get the new version out. I would love to use it. Thanks

Re: Flash Version of Playing Field

Since probably everyone wants it, instead of us all posting our e-mail addresses, maybe he can upload it somewhere for us all to download?

Lucid 09-01-2005 12:07

Re: Flash Version of Playing Field

with so many people requesting a copy it would make more sense if you just posted it to a site with a download link and told people to get it on their own. I would hate to be the guy who has to send out 40 e-mails when there are a ton of things to do right now.

Yes, please let us know when you are able to post the program!

A great resource for coming up with stratigies. But I just wanted to let you know that the vision tetras can start in 8 possible locations, not 6.

the_undefined 09-01-2005 16:22

Re: Flash Version of Playing Field

Good Job, if I find the time before the Competition starts I'll maybe write a Strategy Simulator in VB or something that will execute the Scripts they were talking about in the Kickoff (even so I didn't find that stuff yet, maybe somebody got a link?) ... In Case I do that I'll post a download link here : ) ...

it really is 8? i thought it was 6, can someone verify please.

my plans for this right now are
  1. Add Save Function
  2. Print Function
  3. link to rule book
  4. pen to write down movements and show strategies
  5. a text box at the bottom to right down ideas

ewankoff 09-01-2005 16:37

Re: Flash Version of Playing Field

the flash field is grate but i noticed that their are actually 8 diffrent vision placement areas. also it would help if you depicted the actual loading zones and gates it would be alot better. there is also no reset on it. i know its a long shot but can you try to put a scoring program on it?

i would like a copy any way so will you send it to ewankoff@pascack.k12.nj.us

thanx

663.keith 09-01-2005 16:45

Re: Flash Version of Playing Field

I think that it is 8 possible places as well, there are two "sandwiched" between the two colums that are on the simulation

Yeah, he doesn't need to do anymore work guys. He can just post back here once he gets the updated version up on whatever site he hosted the last one... :D

But, good work on this.

Conor Ryan 09-01-2005 16:59

Re: Flash Version of Playing Field

ok well 1.1 is up, it has the 8 vision placements, but i'm not sure if they are exactly accuarate. I'll see what i can do about a reset button. And the scoring system well that may take awhile and i'm a builder not a webmaster

Flash Version of Playing Field: Lookin' Good

Looks really good so far. A scoring system would be cool, but it'd also take a while to put together. Keep it up!

Re: Flash Version of Playing Field

anyone know if there is any award i am eligable for this?

Re: Flash Version of Playing Field

I'm not sure if the 8 vision placements are correct. One of the pictures in the gallery has it set up differently. I'm not sure if that's accurate either but its just another interpretation

Quoteth the instructions button: "this isn't to scale yet, so dont count me on that and I'm working on being able to show how to put a tetra underneath another to score points"

If you used a tetra snap-to-goal system you could put numbers on it to represent how many tetras are present, but that might just be overcomplicating things...especially if you want to get it to remember in what order (color-wise) they're stacked :ahh:

Only important suggestion for now: dark green background + bright blue==bad for eyes. x_X

Very good job though, love it ^^

I feel it's getting too much attention for what it's worth. calling it great, awesome, etc. would be rewarding cdr1122334455 for something he did however didn't put enough effort in.

The fact is he did it. End of story. If you're jealous of the attention he's getting, perhaps you shouldn't have been lazy. Don't steal someone's credit when it's well deserved.
