Semi-Tank Tread/Half Tank Treads

Hi,

Apoligies if this topic has been posted; however, i did not find a topic that could benefit my interest

I would like to know if any of you have used sem-Tank Tread drivetrains in combination with casters, omni wheels or anything else, please let me know anything you know about this subject. Pictures will be superb.

Thanks in advance!

i have seen this design before you can possibly find pictures of robots at www.firstrobotics.net

but i must ask what the point is....you would get the same affect as wheels with casters especally with the smaller base size this year. all you would be adding is complexity to your system

We are trying to find the best balance between turning and carpet grip(pushing power).

Well, the thing about treads is that they only apply force to the carpet where the pulley (wheel the drives the tread) is pushing the tread into the ground. In essence, a tread design with 4 pulleys total would have the same contact with the ground as a 4wd bot (given that wheel size and pulley size are equal). Of course, this topic has already been discussed in threads like http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=31438 . Hope that helps.
