Re: Drive Systems

While half of my team is excited about the prefabbed frames and gearboxes first handed out this year the other half is working on a nice 2-4 speed transmission. If we were to do a 2 speed they were going to be two extremes. Only because last year we loved our speed, but when we got into a pushing match we were finished. So i crunched some numbers and got HIGH TORQUE in low and HIGH SPEED in HIGH if we were to do the the 3 speed we would throw in some kind of happy medium

As far as shifting goes ive been toying with two ideas.
1. a splined shifting dog mechanism
2. a syncro-mesh shifter.

As soon as i set numbers in stone for this Trann i will post numbers an calculations.

But why use whats given to you, First is about exploring your options and creating a new design! The quick and easy way isnt always the best way and you definatly will not learn much that way!!

Quick and good solution try http://www.andymark.biz . Our team is in the process of purchasing them after seeing the great job of the omni wheels.

I think holonomic/swerve drivetrains will be much more popular this year.

With 4 CIM's, it's going to be a lot easier to make a holonomic drive, especially since Andy is selling such great omni wheels.

The added manueverability swerve and holonomic drives give you is perfect for this game.
