If you mix a good combination of offense and defense, your team will be hard to beat. Defend your rows and attack enemy robots.

Defense in this game is key, if your team can play defense correctly and then be able to pull a killer offensive move, you have a good chance to win that match. Of course describing why defense is more important than offense may not be easy and thats because its not. One is not more important than the other, its just a balance of when you do one or the oter that willdecide who wins.

Re: offense or defense

It all depends on design, If your robot only does defence then that will be the best strategy and if your robot is only for scoring then you are just not building smart because those defence teams will trample you as you try to score, So I think that defence will be # 1 this year.

Good luck to all.

In this game a consistant aggresive offense will always keep the enemy on their heels. However, if a team can't knuckle down and defend when it hits the fan, it will loose.

I think you need to be flexible so yu can work best with your allaince. If your a team of one trick ponies you could find yourself in a lot of trouble so do what the situation calls for you to do.

Re: offense or defense

i believe offense only because you won't have time to keep other teams contained... Maybe like keep the strongest robot from scoring and have your alliance score for you... I say the best robots will be mainly offensive ones...

Re: offense or defense

In the eliminations I think defensive bots will break the game open. you have 2 good offensive bots, a defensive bot is the perfect compliment.

Look at the national champions in the last 2 games. 494 played stifling D on 469 throughout the finals

111 kept people off the ramp in 2003

If you can build a dominant defensive bot, I think you'd have a leg up when it comes to the elims.

Re: offense or defense

I think that a robot should focus mainly on offense but should not rule out defense completely. A mix of the two would be ideal. I can not see any major defense mechanisms other than a strong robot, so I can't see too many teams primarily focusing on defense without any way to manipulate a tetra

Re: offense or defense

You need to mix both elements to win consistantly. You can never rely to heavily on one angle of the game(yes you can speialise in an area of play, especially on your robots capabilities, but you need to able to adapt to play both offense and defense).

Re: offense or defense

To make it simple: Both. I think you need to be able to work with those "one trick ponies" If you can do Offense and D pretty well and are teamed up with two Offensive guys, you play D. It's all about team work, if you're abel to compensate for your teammates then you'll go far.

Re: offense or defense

I think that winning robots will have an efficient offense and a solid defense. I don't necessarily think that the offense has to be awesome, just an effective way to cap/own goals. I think they need to be able to play defense to defend their rows and to hinder opposing alliances. Most important, however, will be the strategy, in my opinion. A good strategy can beat even the strongest robots.
