What was the big change that they talked about?

In the kickoff web cast, someone, I think it was Dean or Dave, talked about the fact that the game had changed significantly in the last 24 hours. I hope someone else didn't already make this thread, but when I searched i couldn't find it.

What was that change??

I think I know, and I'll post my idea after at least one other person posts theirs.

I think that is crazy, that they would change the game that fast, but hey, they run the show...

I think they were referencing the fact that Microchip allowed FIRST teams to have full access to their C18 compiler.

yeap that was the big change. they were planning on having us using the same one as last year until they decided it would be a good idea to have a newer faster one. I have no complaints.

Cuz mine is completely different :ahh:

Re: What was the big change that they talked about?

ok, here's my idea. You all saw dave's animation, right?? at the beginning, it showed a tetra with three humans and three colors that corresponded to the colors of the stick humans. Was it just my eyes, or were they
1. RED
2. BLUE
3. WHITE!!!!!!!!!

This as the colors that first used for when there was three teams. I think that one thing that was a big change, maybe not as last minute as that one, but was that they had decided to do a 2v2v2 game, but they cahnged it to 3v3, which is kinda funny.

I dunno, it was just the message I got from dave's animation

I think that's a definate possibility. If the white team were in the middle on both sides, they'd be across from each other (like in the clue, pie=strait line). Would've been interesting if they'd stuck with that.

So you think they rendered and prepared two animations with two vastly different games and rewrote entire sections of the manual in two days, including new field drawings and specifications, all because in the animation there was a triangle with - gasp - three sides?

Wait, I understand now! Each of the figures in the animation has two arms! Do you follow me? Clearly it means that you work with another team to build your robot throughout the season and at the competition when you drive the robot their driver controls one joystick and yours controls the other! It's so obvious!

Re: What was the big change that they talked about?

So does this mean the 6week period starts over?
Do we have to pay another 6k?
Our team doesn't have 6k, therefor I think first is really screwing us. Who wants to join me in boycotting first and making our own rebotics competition.
I hate people that steal our money

there is not another build season, its a speculation as to what the "big change" was.

I have a response, but i need to load an attachment, it'll be there soon

Re: What was the big change that they talked about?

what does that have to do with this thread? I thought this was about the "big change" that FIRST made like 1 day before kickoff.

edit-I'm not making this thread to be funny, i was trying more for intriging (spelling)

Re: What was the big change that they talked about?

Hello,

A couple of the first posts were correct - the change they were referencing was the Microchip compiler announcement. No major change was made in the actual game or field in 2005, let alone 24 hours before the kickoff.

Figured I'd clear that one up so people can concentrate on other rumors, rules, and discussions. Have a great time and good luck to all this season - should be fun!

Re: What was the big change that they talked about?

so, the tri colored tetra had nothing to do with a possible three alliance game?? cuz the animation seems to show otherwise.

I'll answer this peice by peice.

They made one animation, The game was the same, just 2v2v2. They didn't have to change the manual that much, plus that makes it a "major change" like they said. Again, the feild was not changed, just the two center robots were changed from white-white to blue-red. The only part that would have to be changed for the rules is 1) all robots behind end zone, which does seem kinda unFIRST-like, no struggle at the end. 2) they just changed the colors of the robots which were previosly white so that one was blue, and one was red.

and also, it waswn't just a triangle. It was a triangle with three different sectors (one blue, one red and one white) and three people of corresespnding colors with their arms extended to the same color sector of the tetrahedron.
I hope this images stays attached. its a screenshot of that part of the animation. you can see what i was talking about. If you still disagree, thats fine. It's just my opionion. lol, it doesn't relaly matter, i guess...

SOrry for continuing, just wanted to show everyone what i meant. :)

Re: What was the big change that they talked about?

Somehow this seems like a very good point, while difficult to pull off in the last minute it looks to be good evidence.

At the same time, those are FIRST's colours, so it's very possible those three colours were chosen with a purpose that did not involve the game.

Re: What was the big change that they talked about?

As has been stated, when Dave mentioned the exciting change they made 24 hours before kickoff, he went into how it was the new C compiler. If you watch kickoff again, at least that part,(Which is available at the FIRST site) you can clearly see he is talking about the compiler because he said it took up to 24 hours before kickoff to finish the deal with Microchip.

Re: What was the big change that they talked about?

the game is 3v3 ... the white is for the game logo only .. the two colours are red and blue for the matches .. FIRST would not separate alliances during the game because they know how vital communication before, during, and after the match is ...

The game was always 3v3. There never was a "White" alliance, just "RED" and "BLUE." The opening shot in the animation is just the cover artwork used on the competition programs, and the three figures are meant to represent the three teams on the alliance.

The last minute change referred to during the kick off had to do with the new compiler from Microchip.

Re: What was the big change that they talked about?

Lets end this here and now, the game that was announced on January 8th, 2005 is the same game, the game design committee and FIRST has been working on for the past YEAR+. There is not the man power or the resources for FIRST to develop and make a game in a month let alone a day. If you want to continue this discussion please feel free to in aim or in private but you discussion is confusing some people about the Official game for 2005 and the true change that occurred under 24 hours before kickoff was the finalization of the Microchip deal.

Had complaints about this thread confusing folks.

No useful purpose to the thread but this IS the rumor mill so no harm no foul. It was more or less not worth the bother of doing anything about before but now... ...let's just close it shall we?

Yes... ...I think we shall...
