We finally get away from the DRILL MOTOR and now he is purposing to bring back the worst part from them, the gear box. Wouildnt the drill transmition break if you did this?

You obviously haven't read the Nothing But Dewalts white paper. Dr. Joe would be ashamed of you. It's something that we thought about, too, though we're working on another solution.

Well.. it wouldn't of worked anyways because about 5 mins before that picture was taken, I broke the drill transmission. :D

O im sorry I just know alot of teams hate the drill motors and there transmitions cause they break so much and thats pretty funny do you want one of ours maybe i can pull some strings and all u would need is probly to pay shipping.

Result?

Bosch.. gearbox.. go.. "boom".

This gearbox was rated for a Bosch drill motor that had about 400 watts with an input speed of up to 20,000 rpm. The pic would show 2 motor setup (more power) with a dramatic reduction in input speed. This input speed is driven by an very large torque.

This gearbox setup would work ok until the output shaft of the Bosch gearbox was resisted from movement (most likely used on an arm, and the arm hits something un-moveable). Once this happens, those little gears in the Bosch gearbox would be turned to dust.

This pic shows a fairly simple way to blow up a Bosch gearbox. Wear your safety glasses! :)

Wait... let me get this right. You broke the transmission,... and not Elgin?!? Wow. j/k I've broken my fair share of these.

Interesting idea, nonetheless.

384 never had a real problem with the bosch drill motor, it was our transmission for years. But why use the old one is my question. I know some teams have issues with that transmission, so why not upgrade. Use the same idea, but go with a different transimssion. Just thowing out there, the milwaulkie chordless has a great transmission, I use one at work all the time, I'm an electrical contractor, I've dropped it off a ladder and I can't believe I didn't destroy the shaft or the whole thing. Just a thought.

236 hasn't had a problem with the drill motors, we've used them for 2 years straight and used the transmitions on them to get some extra tourqe. We haven't had a major malfuntion with one yet. You just have to be careful of the loads you place on them. Not that that will be an issue since we dont have one this year.

Yes, I broke the transmission, twice, but elgin was standing next to me so he probably had a huge influence on it breaking.

Note: This was a joke between elgin and I at the meeting and thought it would be a good thing to put on CD. It is not a serious idea and it could be dangerous as Andy Baker said.
