This might sound stupid [programming hardware questions]

I heard there is no stupid question so:
Is the Accelerometer an encoder?
Is the gyro COMPLETELY necessary in order to use the scriping tools?
Is the encoder COMPLETELY necessary in order to use the scripting tools?

No, by encoder folks mean something the measures rotation of the wheels (or chain or motors...). The accelerometer measures acceleration in one direction.

Technically no, but you may not like the results. To use any dead reckoning system like the scripting tools, the machine has to be able to tell how far it has gone and how much it has turned. You could infer this from how you drove the motors, but without any feedback things like drive friction and wheel slippage will introduce errors.
