Sounds like a challenge to me :D

You're not going to paint it that hideous fluorescent green, are you?

jk Ty - you know I love you guys (even Dan). Looks pretty sweet as always.

Awwwe, I feel warm inside.

She's gonna have a gloss black finish with air brushing to outline the cutout features. Green for the grass blades, white for the teeth and red for the eyes. The frame inside might end up red. Then the number plates etc in the vertical on the "secret" thing might get a different colored green than the tetra.

Weight: I've actually picked it up by myself with "almost" everything in it. So it's OK. I think when it's done it's going to nip the limit.

Andymark transmissions. Her technical speeds should be 14'/s high and 5'/s low.

We'll be driving it this weekend, I'll host a video at that point

My guess for the four corners is either powered outriggers or mast supports?

Waterjet cutting looks great, can't wait to post our teaser.

As promised, here she is on the move:

179 maiden voyage

She drives like a Cadillac. We also had big John lay down and put it in low gear and pushed him. He's about 280lbs maybe? but I don't know what the coefficient of Johns butt is...

I know the next question is, what are those pipes. I'll give you a hint, no they are not outriggers. And no that's not how they will look, they're just strapped up out of the way. No that's not part of our super secret rapid cap system.

We weighed it to be 90 lbs with almost everything. I think it's going to be 100lbs w/out the battery.

One more thing, I don't know if anyone noticed the perimiter shape (hexagonal). Let's see if anyone can guess it's function. The shape is credited to the very famous Warren Boudreau

Here's a better picture

Would those be some type of defense mechanism...?

would those have any sort of similar final function to 111's 2003 robot??

Swampdude 30-01-2005 21:58

Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser

defense: at times possibly, but no
111: nope

Tetra storage? Open up to hold tetras then grab them off with the arm?

mmmm....brings back memories of our bot from last year.....good luck with the end effect I know we had a problem fighting the weight and unfortunately had to resort to using a few HUGE pnuematics....very cool video though....gl see ya @ UCF =)

Wow. Very impressive. I like the way it "launches of the line" and accelerated well through its powerband. I hope ours drives like that.

Cadillac, I was thinking more like a V8 Ranger or maybe a Silverado. But perhaps one of those Cadillacs like a 1973 El Dorado with a 500ci under the hood.

I was thinking that too. But why would they need that powerful of a pneumatic cylinder. Unless for some reason they pick them up..

!!! Maybe that is why the bot is shaped like that :ahh: that way, so when they pull the rod things in..one side of the tetra will rest on the side of the bot. If this is the case, then that would mean their arm can reach both ways without turning (duh), and can hold more then four tetras on their bot at a time!!! :D

Right on the tetra holders. They can also be used for a few other things. As far as the shape, that's kind of a byproduct. But the actual exterior shape has more to do with interaction with other bots.

Here's another pic of electronical stuff
