Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
wow that's amazing, why ruin it by smashing into another robot? save it for a art gallery and make a bad looking one to make other teams look normal. Good Luck!

Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
When do we get to see what fits in that square center hole?
|
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
Very nice job Swampthing. Looks like a killer. :)

Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
hmmm let me guess:
It looks like i see 3 wheels on the side being shown (without your waffle tread) and most likely a multimotor drive...possibly more than 4 (total)? The middle wheels are probably lowered a fraction of an inch (seems to be a general trend now) Oh and it looks really really really sweet. |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
Pretty sweet Tytus...
Water Jet or CNC? And...what is the big slit and square hole for? I would guess that it was run by treads if the middle wasn't out of alignment with the other two. I can't wait to see the full thing up and running. |

Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
boy howdy, that sure is purdy...
what material is that shell made out of? and how did you make it? it looks like it might be sheet metal thats bent and welded, but i can't be sure... |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
The hole on top is super duper secret (till week 5). The cover is 1/8 alum welded plate. Waterjet (thanks BTI). The front and back covers are hinged hoods. Under the front there is an isolated plugin electronics module. Around the perimeter and all through the base is a grid of 1/4" alum plate welded up, then laminated with 3/16 plate. It's extremely rigid. Also hidden in there are a brand new spiffy set of Andymarks. Around the lower perimeter will be covered in a very cool bumper sensor system. This little monster is going to see and touch!
But the best part is yet to come! :D |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
Where can I get one?
That is quite an amazing looking robot. I'd love to see the final product, with the arm (or whatever it will be) and all. |

Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
lol hopefully you won't have to put any " speed holes " into it to reduce the weight :-)
would stink to ruin such a pretty water jet job/shell |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
how much does that thing weigh? looks heavy....but then again i could be mistaken....

You're not going to paint it that hideous fluorescent green, are you? jk Ty - you know I love you guys (even Dan). Looks pretty sweet as always. |

She's gonna have a gloss black finish with air brushing to outline the cutout features. Green for the grass blades, white for the teeth and red for the eyes. The frame inside might end up red. Then the number plates etc in the vertical on the "secret" thing might get a different colored green than the tetra. Weight: I've actually picked it up by myself with "almost" everything in it. So it's OK. I think when it's done it's going to nip the limit. Andymark transmissions. Her technical speeds should be 14'/s high and 5'/s low. We'll be driving it this weekend, I'll host a video at that point |

anyway, can't wait to drag race ya (and play "chicken")! :D |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
My guess for the four corners is either powered outriggers or mast supports?
Waterjet cutting looks great, can't wait to post our teaser. |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
As promised, here she is on the move:
179 maiden voyage She drives like a Cadillac. We also had big John lay down and put it in low gear and pushed him. He's about 280lbs maybe? but I don't know what the coefficient of Johns butt is... I know the next question is, what are those pipes. I'll give you a hint, no they are not outriggers. And no that's not how they will look, they're just strapped up out of the way. No that's not part of our super secret rapid cap system. We weighed it to be 90 lbs with almost everything. I think it's going to be 100lbs w/out the battery. One more thing, I don't know if anyone noticed the perimiter shape (hexagonal). Let's see if anyone can guess it's function. The shape is credited to the very famous Warren Boudreau Here's a better picture |

Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
would those have any sort of similar final function to 111's 2003 robot??
|
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
defense: at times possibly, but no
111: nope |

just like to say, that wasant me driving in that video. i drive much better.
Yes! i does drive like a caddylack and it pushes like a Catipler. |

Cadillac, I was thinking more like a V8 Ranger or maybe a Silverado. But perhaps one of those Cadillacs like a 1973 El Dorado with a 500ci under the hood. Quote:

!!! Maybe that is why the bot is shaped like that :ahh: that way, so when they pull the rod things in..one side of the tetra will rest on the side of the bot. If this is the case, then that would mean their arm can reach both ways without turning (duh), and can hold more then four tetras on their bot at a time!!! :D |

Here's another pic of electronical stuff |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
Well, they could also be used for lifting back up a flipped bot :) and also for defense to extend your bots length and width.
I have no clue what the exterior shape has to do with it though...time for some more thinking :] |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
I'm as they say, jealous. Wish i had access to a waterjet. Much kudos to you, and i'm quite intrigued by the prospective of a rapid tetra stacker. Got me rushing back to the drawing board modifying my design to increase its speed. Should be quicker now thanks to what you've implied ;).

Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
Very nice. Reminds me of a tiger waiting in the bushes. Although i'm sure that will change with the addition of an arm :)
|
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
Had a little fun pushing today :D

Anti-tipping maybe? I'm pretty sure you guys will have some type of crazy arm. |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
now we have to find the coefficent of Nick's butt
|
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
sry, i don't know the coefficient of my butt. But if it helps i think i am around 200+ lbs.
(all the programming i do for my team just to be treated as dead weight for the robot to push ;) ) |
Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
i wanna see this new baby of 179's --it looks great :)
you guys are doing well-- i must come and visit you guys really soon tytus--don't kill me--that thing looks like it'll flatten me in a quick few secs great job guys!!! i don't want to think how much damage you guys can create with that thing.. yay for swampthing again--they have done it again this year |

Re: pic: 179 Drivetrain Teaser
I just watched that thing drive in the match videos from UCF, and it drives like a charm. Just a question, I'm assuming the center wheels are lowered, but how much?
By the way, conrats on winning UCF...the driving at the end of Finals Match 1 to get into the end zone was amazing. |

And that last match was cool. It looked like a pinball machine how he bounced off everything but kept making progress back. Tytus is good at driving in reverse as well as Fwd. But I've watched that last moment a few times. It's really neat to see how pink made all the right moves to create the gap, and then it seemed like it hopped in there just so. That was actually the very final match of UCF. Thanks for the compliments. |
