Wiith the details in the video, i can guess that it will take apprx. 40-45 sec or may be more time to pick and put the tetris on the top. So i can say that within the time limit of 2 minutes the robot will be able to put nearly 2 tetris on the goal.
This mechanism can't be offensive, but can be defensive. Think about it......

Where can I find the mechanism you've shared with the community that does better? I tried the search function.

We're not saying it's the best thing out there, we're just celebrating the fact we made it - we haven't always enjoyed this level of success with our "mechanisms". Also it only really needs to telescope when capping the center goal. And whose to say it can't go faster?

I thought that if you were going to criticize it was supposed to be constructive criticism. That wasnt. In order to make this criticism of your unconstructive criticism constructive I hereby propose that next time before you criticize you think how you would have done it better, then make a point of explaining your better idea.

As far as the arm goes I like it. I wish we could do something like that. I have got to get a picture of our collection of precision tools. It consists of sawzalls and grinders. Great job on the arm!

10 seconds yes... but the sppol diam is appx 1" right now... we can up it to appx 8" diameter w/ sufficient torque ..... and it will come up quite a bit faster....! the 1 " spool is for testing we had it made for a proto van door winch from 2004 so we used that....

it seems overkill in the pic but thats before we cut down the arm to FIT in the requiremnts :D

thanks for the comments .... i think the true judge will probably be competition.... you may be right you may not be... we'll see LOL..... but do remember this is kinda in the prototyping stage... the real one might go up faster and have a stronger elbow etc...

10 seconds is not entirely bad. One thing to remember is that when you reduce our reduction for your motor to run faster, you are also increasing the load on the motor and it will get "bogged down" more. For our (pivoting) arm, we estimate an actuation time of 16 degrees per second.

That's a really nifty arm. Can you explain how that claw works? It's a little hard to see. Also, at the end of the movie, I hear a voice say, "Put a tetra in there, and see how well it goes up." How much does that extra load affect the speed of telescoping?

Oh, and to anyone tempted to make posts like CRAZYMADI's, be sure to read the wise words of Andy Baker:

Hi... with the tetra it goes up same speed.(the reduction is overkill so theres no change in speed w/ the tetra) .. i understand about draw going up w/ less reduction... however we are only pulling 2 amps so i guess a 3-4 " spool is quite possible

i relooked at the video... the whole grabber is in there... (there nothing more to it)
basically theres a upper claw and a lower retracting bayonet that allows the tetra to fall down quickly

How does it telescope? Leadscrew? This is goign to be a GREAT robot!!

Btw i can't get the other links to work. I really want ot see them

Cool video, i too watched it on a laptop and turned it sideways. Looks like it will be promising in matches. Good luck with the rest of your build

well, i received a lot of comments about my reply.
I was just trying to highlight the actual scenario.
I really did appreciate the efforts of team 701 and their designing abilities.
If anybody feel bad about it, then i'm really sorry for that.
I'm taking my words back. Sorry once again

The other links are connected to Doug G 's yahoo brief case.. you should be able to click the picture icon in the middle of the page.. ... however heres a site with more pics:

As far as concerns go on the number of tetras being held by an arm. A few of us agreed on kickoff it just was just better strategy to do one tetra at a time, fast and efficient. Not only do you avoid spilling all your eggs, but isn't that precisely what autonomous calls for?

Salik Syed 03-02-2005 23:28

Re: TEAM 701s ARM OF WONDER!

Yes ... the telescoping is only used for capping the tall goal... we can cap all other goals w/o telescoping... and as alex stated our strategy is quick simple capping
