Pictures from our FIRST real build day #830 The Rat Pack

I want to give a real thank you to my team 830 from Huron High School in Ann Arbor MI. They have really stuck through with the 3 weeks of theory, ideas, and planning before they really got to get their hands dirty. Tonight...someone got to cut metal with fire...

Here are the pictures I took tonight. I'm really proud of the fact that THEY are building the robot WE designed. The engineers, machinists, and mentors are guiding the students through the process of building the robot, but the students are doing the work (except for the aluminum welding...but that may change...).

I'm so proud of you all and I only hope you are having as much fun as I am...

May I ask why there is a turbo housing on the bench that some students are working on?

They look a bit odd for a turbo, but I think you're right. Maybe they work in an autoshop... forced induction in a robot... hmmm

I think there planing on inducing a vaccum so strong on the tetra there gonna suck it up and spit it out aiming for the top of the goal! Not realizing PVC doesn't shrink or comeback to live!

Is it bad (for a digital camera) to take a picture of someone welding or cutting? I notice some of those last few pictures look almost as if they were taken through a pair of goggles, and the very last one looks different like it was taken without them. Or something.

wow that is super awesome that your team allows the students to work with some heavy machinery... Our team working at NASA definitely has the downside of safety procedures that doesn't allow the students to use much machinery.

Thanks for the replies...

We do a lot of diesel engine development work...hence the turbo housing. Hmmm...how can we get it on our robot?

I turned the flash off for the last plasma picture to try and capture the sparks...hence the different look.

Hopefully more pictures today!!
