Dyeing your hair?

Well, are you?

I am. It's fairly long right now (about 3 inches, and that's long for me) but I'm gonna wait until the end of the 6th week to do it.

Gonna be a bright red - and all of it. :D

Who else is in?

Tommrow I will post my new pic with my MOE inspired hair color again.

sorry can't do it, i wouldn't want to mess up my red hat. Besides the hat would cover it up so it would be pointless for me, although it is good to have team spirit.

definitely doing it.
I might get some orange highlights (to match the writing on our shirts). =D
w00t to that!

I've had neon orange hair the last 3 years.

No more though, since I'm not on 100 :)

Time for Blue hair... Competition time! :)

JamizzleHavok13 01-02-2005 21:42

Re: Dyeing your hair?

Y'know, I would dye it permanently, but my mom would freak, so I think the second option would be to spray it (most likely black and orange) to match our shirts and run around with Dori boasting that we are Halloween.

I've had spikey blue hair since 2001, and I'm planning on a blue mohawk this upcoming competition season (starting just before Sacramento, and going through Nationals). I've been saving my hair up for it since last fall, and I'm at ~6" ;)

Since 7th grade, now in 11th, ive had my hair about 10 different colors. Its kinda fun. Ive never had any real reason to do so, just for the heck of it, its been, Blue, Red, Green, Orange, Yellow, White and any colors similar to those.

Right now its Pink because my sisters were bored one day and decided to do it, i just gave in.

Im thinking about going Purple for the season because our shirts are purple and my whole get up is going to be purple.

Btw... I always do my hair permanent colors, only temporary if im going to a game of some sort.

that would look AWESOME.

---

everyone on 233 gets at least their hair spray painted pink for competitions. our drive team gets pink wigs. last year a few people bleached their hair and dyed it bright pink; and this year i know a few people who are doing it. i'd love to bleach my hair and dye it pink but (1)i'd probably get expelled from school (which is stupid because its for a school-related function) and (2)my mom would probably kill me. although my senior year on the team i am going to find some way around all of that and bleach my hair and permantently dye it anyways. :) but for now, i've gotta stick to spray paint and any kind of semi-permanent dye i can find. (i'd semi-permanently dyed it before (bright red!) and it looked cool because where my hair was highlighted it was bright red but at the roots it was like a deep crimson.. i hope the pink will turn out like that...)

Just like last year I'm going to have bright violet tips and bangs. But unfortunately I'll only keep them for about a week, because I plan on starting a job right after our one-and-only competition. =(

Re: Dyeing your hair?

My team buys TONS of red, black, and white spray on hair dye. It usually goes black on the left, white in the middle, and then red on the right... It's interesting...

Last year, Robbie only dyed his hair Red, and after he did that at nationals, acording to Drew, the white towels turned red, and the maids were all freaking out...

Watashi_wa_Kame 02-02-2005 07:58

Re: Dyeing your hair?

It's not really for competition as it's not really our team color, But I plan to dye my hair teal somtime in the future.

Something like that happened to me once :P My hair is impossible to temporarily dye.. it's way too thick and dark to actually turn any color, and we were trying to turn it dark blue (ha.) My team put loads of that really thick blue goo in my hair and it was still super ultra hard by the end of the day and I wanted to get it out before I went to bed. I took a long long shower and it still wasn't all out. I turned two towels blue (so did the other people in the room) then went to bed. That turned my pillow and part of the sheets blue. We left for the comp the next day, thinking the maid would have changed them when we returned. We got back and all the old towels were still there and no clean ones :/

Re: Dyeing your hair?

http://www.23skidoo.org/shop/hairdye.htm here is where I buy all of my hair dye, special effects works the best if you want to do semi-permanent colors. I use this stuff all the time cause I like to have at least 4 different colors in my hair a year.

I should be posting a new pic of my new color later today If i get around to dying it.

Re: Dyeing your hair?

On the link that Kyle posted they have a color called "Pimpin Purple". Hmm...how hard would it be to dye Dave's hair (if we couldn't get him to consent)? Dave...would you dye your hair purple for nationals if the team won the Chesapeake Regional? It's not like you'll lose it or anything.

On a side note...does anyone know if they make gold hair dye? If so, where can I get some? ;)
Edit: Or how easy would it be to mix some hair dye to get gold?

Green! Though I generally use hair spray, I'm tempted to try out a cool-aid dye recipe which should last about a week for Manchester this year.

Oh, and three inches is "fairly long"? Mua ha ha ha ha :cough: :cough: :cough: Ew, sorry, evil laughed myself into a coughing fit there... Anyhow, I so beat the guys in this category. My hair is 16 inches, and that's just the ponytail.

::wonders if it's such a good idea to be bragging about hair length::

Well, you asked.

since I'm a little too obsessed about the condition of my hair, I probably won't dye my hair permanantly (why start now?). But I'll most definitely get my hands on some colored hair spray. hmm... or maybe a colored wig will look awesome. *ponders*

hahaha seems like the mohawk is a safe hairstyle this year :D mine's also at 16" and still growing

i usually dye mine every 4 months or so...even if it's permenant it runs out of my hair within a month(my hair won't hold dye at all), but i'll probably be doing it for manchester or atlanta. it will probably be pink in atlanata, just because my friends have been begging me to let them dye it either pink or purple...we'll see i guess. other than that, i've dyed it a few times before...here's a link, there's pics of me with all different colors in.

my fav, the orange/copper color (it was copper highlights made for dark hair...my hair is naturally blond...http://photobucket.com/albums/v199/r...t=DSCN0339.jpg

I'm a senior in high school so its my last year on the team. I didn't dye it last year because my school doesnt allowed dyed hair so I didn't. But this year since its my last year on the team as a student, I'm goin out with a bang. im bleachin it all and dying it bright green and even though my school doesnt allow it I've figured out a way around it. When I get back from nats im gonna shave my head.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I CANT WAIT TO SEE THAT.
I did green high lights in my hair but they didn't turn out the right way so I think i am going to do it all green.

to rocknthehawk:
What do you use to hold up your hair? I used to use Elmer's glue and hair wax, but once my liberty spikes reached about 9 inches that didn't work anymore.

Locks of Love will take dyed hair. If you bleach it, however, then they don't want it. I've never had to bleach my hair to dye it, and I've done quite a few times. I doubt I will be dying my hair this year.

Re: Dyeing your hair?

I want to dye my hair, but i have black hair so I would have to bleach it then dye it blue and orange.

and then dye it back to my natural hair color to conform with work/school regulations

after all that dye, it would most likely cause stripping, and stay permanently discolored (until more hair grew in, obviously) :( Its a great look for those who do it though - very spirited :o

rocknthehawk 10-02-2005 16:31

Re: Dyeing your hair?

kyle: i use freeze it hairspray and i blowdry it...thats it lol. i've never tried anything else so i can't really give you tips on that. i'm just at 16" and it stays up stiff.

liz: many dye's have bleach in them, and now they make highlights for dark hair, so there may be hope for you if you really want to dye it.

my words exactly. i have black hair and i wanted blue/orange. but i DO have light brown highlights that i might be able to temporarily color for the comp....eh, i wouldn't want to kill my roots. i'll stick with spray thank you. but i'm in. i'm doing face paints too. i looked crazy/insane at my last robotics comptn, i plan to continue my streak

I still have my gold streaks from last year with the Juggernauts.. They're somewhat orange-ish in a certain light though, so I suppose I'll keep them for the Mech Warriors.. Thank God for curly hair, no having to take care of bad roots because they don't show as badly :)

Re: Dyeing your hair?

Anyone have any advice on how i should go about getting my hair to stay up into a Mohawk for the NYC regional. my team traditionally dyes our hair green and this year i wank to gel it into a hawk but i cant seem to get it to stay with any gel i buy. My hair is around 7in long now and its texture can only properly be described as "Jew hair" (kind of all over the place as you may be able to see from my who am i pic) anyone have hawk techniques

IraJason 21-03-2006 21:51

Re: Dyeing your hair?

Interestingly enough, one of our team members found that sticking the industrial strength vaccum to his head allows for a very good mohawk... Not quite sure if it will work for for the jew-fro though...

Ok, this is what I pose to my students and a couple of mentors in an email not too long ago.

Quote:

Ok, here it is, I am going to have a bet for all you members and mentors.

The Bet

If we win the Philadelphia Regional Championship, become finalist, or any FIRST award I will dye my hair our team colors ( blue and lime green) for the Championship Event . Yes, you hear it right from Freddy's mouth, if you win a FIRST robotics competition Philadelphia Banner or become finalist or win any FIRST-approved award, I will dye my hair for the Championship Event.
I think my team will put it off this year!

LOL

Re: Dyeing your hair?

Just for an update for this year.

I am planning to join team 217 at the canadian regional (not waterloo) and (assuming everything goes well) will be dyeing my hair half blue and half neon green.

Yes, that is right - the Thunder Chicken colors. Maybe even a streak of blond in the center...

That's assuming everything will be going correctly (crosses fingers)

:D

At competitions, I always see people with their beards dyed colors...any advice on how to do that? Is it just spray dye or is it something different?

Help would be appreciated.

Re: Dyeing your hair?

I'm in a good spot, I don't have to dye my hair! I have naturally copper hair, and orange is my team's color. The only problem could be the effect that red hair dyes fail to duplicate (btw checking this is the often best way to determine a natural red head) red hair is very variable in color depending on the amount of sun it gets, mine goes from mostly brown to bright red/gold. People with red hair also tend to have pale skin (At least all the people I've met with natural red hair are) so any messy dyeing and my forehead turns black, or whatever color it's being dyed. (Black is the only color I've done, it was for a school project)
