West Michigan - Road Construction
If it's April it must be road construction Season.
These aren't major projects, but I thought I'd spread the word so teams can plan accordingly. East Bound 196 west of Grandville and Grand Rapids (mile 65) is down to one lane for about a mile. Likewise in downtown there are lane reductions for a short distance. These should not be major, but allow for some extra travel time. For teams staying at the Residence Inn or other hotels near the Rivertown Crossings Mall in Grandville should be aware that Rivertown Parkway just west of 196 is reduced to one lane (I think in both directions). It may be better to get off at the Wilson Avenue Exit and come South to 44th, especially for buses. This will likely only be a problem in the mornings heading downtown. I'll try and post a map later. |
It's not too bad

This being Spring Break, Traffic levels are way down so the 196 construction shouldn't bother anyone.
Rivertown Parkway at 196, however, is a mess. If you are staying at Comfort Suites in Grandville (Kenowa Ave.) Getting off 196 at 44th is OK, to get back into town follow Kenowa North to Chicago drive and get on 196 there. If you're staying by the mall use Wilson avenue both ways. See the attached map for details. |
Thanks
Thanks for the heads-up. We're staying in Grandville.

OT: For those staying in Grandville...
...who are looking for a GREAT place to eat, check out Kahunaville in Rivertown Crossings mall...a little pricey, but you get a LOT of food for your money....

There are lots of good places to eat in Grandville and the entire Grand Rapids area. If you're looking for supplies of another type, we now have both Lowes and Home Depot.
If you're looking for restaurants or other places in the area, stop by and ask. I live in Grandville but work on team 85. Of course most of Team 288 are also experts in the Grandville area. Most of the local teams are somewhat familiar with the entire area and are more than happy to offer advice. |
