Driver's area feedback rules

What are the rules on feedback in the driver's area? I know it's in the rulebook, but I don't have that on hand and it would take longer to get the answer from there than it would from here. Are we allowed LEDs? How about picture, like on a small LCD? Wireless cameras? How far can I go?

You can have whatever feedback you can create with the data out of the Dashboard port, so long as the device runs under its own power (such as a laptop). Also, you can have LED feedback with the LED pins from the joystick ports, which provide 10mA at 5V. Most wireless devices (including cameras) are explicitly prohibited.

A member on my team said that if they were approved, we would be allowed to use wireless devices. Thanks for clarifying the first part, though.

occasionally, a team has mounted a video camera in their robot, this can be approved if the team does not have a TV in the driver station. a couple of years ago in Connecticut a camera in a robot was projected onto the large screen in the arena while the team was playing. It was pretty cool

So the cam cannot be used as an aid to the driver?

Also, how did they arrange the pic to be projected on the big screen? They, like, gave the receiver base to FIRST to hook up? Or don't you know?

No it cannot:

Q&A: "ID: 1039 Section: 5.3.4.2 Status: Answered Date Answered: 1/11/2005
Q: Are we able to have a mounted camera on the robot providing live feedback from the arena floor?

A: Cameras are allowed with FIRST's permission but the video output cannot be transmitted to your drivers for control purposes during any match. "
