Computer Simulation

Greetings from the Positronic Panthers (486)!

Our programming team is currently working on a computer simulation (not 3ds/Inventor) of our robot that will interact with the robot controller so that we can test small code changes for extreme runtime errors without having to take the robot away from the people that are currently building it to upload new code and test.

Has anyone done this?

Does anyone know where to get a C++ library that will make it easier to work with a COM/Serial/Parallel Port?

I think we have the OpenGL parts covered (for a 3d simulation), but any information would be appreciated.

Thanks very much for your time,
John Drake

Re: Computer Simulation

Wow, that would be sweet - I know my team hasn't tried it. For our code testing purposes we usually have the robot in our programming room with all the engineers as well so we can work side-by-side. As a rule, if the programmers have something they need to test, they have the right of way with the robot and all other teams are required to stop construction on the robot (unless the team is heavily involved with their work).

Sorry I can't help you otherwise.
