I saw "over the hedge" with my dad on father's day.
It was ok, and the whole thing was kind of a burn on sub-divisons (which made it extra-funny :D ), but I got the feeling they mis-represented RJ (the racoon)'s charicter relative to the comic strip, even though I have only read it a couple times.
I also found the:
Quote:

"replace the food you stole from me or I will kill you"
to be a little inapropriate for a kids movie, and a little blunt/one-dimensional.

Well now that I am done sounding like Ebert, I can say that I am TOTALY PSYCED about "Pirates of the Carribean 2" coming out on July 7th!! :ahh:

Re: So...What Movie Did You Just Watch?

This summer movie season, I have so far been to see:

X3: The Last Stand -- This was entertaining, but not fantastic by any means. There were a great many things that were handled poorly, I think, and I had to immediately consult the internet after watching to learn more about the incidental characters that I'd just seen. If Psylocke looked one bit as she does in the comic book, that'd have been great.

The da Vinci Code -- This wasn't that good, really. Is there anyone that didn't immediately understand what was happening? It makes the movie pointless and it's then frustrating that the documents that exist to support the purported truth are treated so poorly.

Screaming Masterpiece -- This isn't so much a summer blockbuster, but an artsy movie I saw as part of the Seattle International Film Festival. It's about the music scene in Iceland and, since I loathe Bjork, it was really bad. Really, really bad.

Cars -- Fantastic. This movie was so much fun to sit through and I can't understand any of the criticism people have leveled against it. Like many things from Pixar, it was lovingly crafted and that shows in its attentional to detail and nuance. I loved the music in the film as well. Sh-Boom by The Chords is on perpetual repeat, practically.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift -- 17 kinds of awesome. I love cars and racing and, though I'm not a fan of drifting so much, this movie was a ton of fun. It's not going to win anyone an Oscar, certainly, but there's something to be said for things that let you sit back and have a good time for two hours.

Coming up this week, I hope I'll be able to see Superman on Tuesday. I'm interested to see how it'll play in IMAX with the mix of 2D and 3D footage.

X-Men: The Last Stand
The Dark Phoenix saga was one of the greatest in comic book history. It was just one of the many story lines in this top heavy beauty. It's exciting and all and I do like how Dark Phoenix was explored in the movie (she actually came across as more dark and immoral than she did in the comic and she wiped out a planet of billions there). But just because they offer alot on your plate doesn't always make it a great meal. Sometimes it just overwhelms the palette.

District B13
This movie is short and to the point with some really good action sequences but not much else. The plot borrows (OK steals) heavily from Escape From New York and is just an excuse for all the kung fu fighting. Disposable entertainment at it's best.

I went to see Superman Returns at the IMAX last Tuesday. They had 4 different scenes in 3D. It really was worth seeing on a larger screen. I actually felt like I was in the sky while he was flying. I'm also glad that they used John Williams for music because I felt like some of the older movies.

It is indeed an interesting movie. I saw it in both IMAX and regular theater.
IMAX experience was amazing, mainly because of the awesome music by John Williams. Regular theater experience was not that good. I recommend IMAX though.

I've not had a chance to see it yet, but there's an indicator that pops up on the screen that lets you know when to wear the glasses and, presumably, when to take them off. The scenes shown in 3D are 'shot' entirely by CGI, as it's not yet possible to create 3D live action prints from anything beside an IMAX 3D camera, as far as I'm aware. If the whole movie were in 3D, in any case, the film would be too long for most IMAX theaters to put into their projectors.

I have yet to see an IMAX movie (i think) but I did buy "NASCAR: The IMAX Experience" on DVD recently and I wish I had a chance to see it on the big screen in an IMAX theater. It was cool seeing it at a friends house with surround sound and the bass rumbling of the engines, but would have been way better at the theater.

That's the last movie I saw btw, besides Cars at the theater which was absolutely stunning in terms of it's graphics and it's story line. (even though you knew what was going to happen, it's meant for kids anyways who don't need twisted sub plots to enjoy a movie for what it is). :]

That's why there is limited suspense stories (how adult suspense stories are defined anyways) marketed to kids. I mean what? Disney treats orphan kids as suspense stories, but we all know how they end (The Lion King, Bambi.. etc. etc.) The kids grow up and become great leaders.

"Real" suspense stories aimed at the adult market don't always turn out happily ever after like that. I wonder why that is?!?

Case in point, Rent. A little more like real life than any Disney movie, but also so far fetched in terms of what I am used to in my life that I thought it was a bad movie.
But.. eh.. I know I'm in the minority when it comes to not liking the movie RENT so it seems.

As much as I rag on NASCAR (left turns just don't get my motor running, as it were), this was a fun movie to see in IMAX. All movies are fun to see in IMAX, really. The only one I've ever seen that I disliked was Titanica. It's really boring.

RENT is a bad movie. From everything I've seen, it's a bad show, too. The music, when taken on its own, is pretty good, but the premise of the whole thing is absurd. Jonathan Larson wrote a musical by relying wholly upon stereotypes of 1980's 'counterculture,' something he knew practically nothing about; though even that may be giving him too much credit since there's been some question about whether some of RENT's plot was plagiarized from another book. I do own the movie, but only for "Take Me or Leave Me." The rest is pretty awful.

I saw Superman Returns in a normal theatre a few weeks ago. It was okay, but I really didn't like John Williams score, as it sounded way too much like his ones for the Star Wars movies to me. I still can't believe how expensive it was to make, though. There was a lot of CG, but almost $300 million USD seems excessive for any movie.

Some of that cost has come from the movie being in production for a very long time now. They went through many script writers, one of them being Kevin Smith. At one point, Tim Burton was on board to direct it too. Wikipedia explains it pretty well Apparently, before Singer even came on board, around $150 million had already been spent on a movie that didn't even exist yet.

2 recent movies:

Took the kids to see Monster House. It was better than I expected. Kids liked it, and so did I. The storyline was unique and not as predictable as other kids shows.

Got Capote from the Library (we rarely rent, as my wife and kids to the library weekly). Philip Seymour Hoffman was outstanding... amazingly good performance in portraying a unique person in Truman Capote. He did such a good job that I detested him (he was AMAZINGLY selfish) while still caring how Capote made it through to the end of the book he was writing. Usually, if I don't like a lead character in a movie, my interest wanes. His acting was so good that I wanted to keep watching.

I saw Click a couple of weeks ago and I really liked it. Sure, it wasn't mind blowing or anything, but it was better than I expected it to be. Somehow, I really end up enjoying most of Adam Sandler's movies... they are just fluff, but that doesn't make them any less entertaining. Click was a little different from the rest of his movies though - it got a little too close to being genuinely sad. At one point I was actually crying... who cries during an Adam Sandler movie? Well, then again, I cry during just about any movie thats even REMOTELY sad... lol... so I guess it could just be me.

That reminds me of Woodie Flower's speech a few years ago at kickoff. He mentioned how women have more mirror neurons than men do (at least I think he talked about this during his speech... it could have been when I was chatting with him afterward). A mirror neuron is a neuron which fires both when an animal performs an action and when the animal observes the same action performed by another animal. Thus, the neuron "mirrors" the behavior of another animal, as though the observer were himself performing the action.

I find that when I see another person crying, or somehow being upset, it causes me to be upset too, even if I don't know why they are upset. So maybe it's those mirror neurons kicking in. Guys, ever wonder why girls seem to cry during even the cheesiest movies? Just blame it on the workings of her brain. :)

I saw Lady In The Water lastnight with my bestfriend to blow off some steam and it was such a horrible movie. Easily M. Night Shyamalan's worst movie. I watched the original "Gone in 60 Seconds" again, and the second of that series "The Junkman".

The Junkman holds the Guinness Book of World Record for the most planes, cars, trucks, and boats wrecked in a movie. Over 150!!!

I also watched "The Corpse Bride" finally. That was typical coolness in the style of Tim Burton.

I really enjoyed the movie, but it seems to be the kind you either really like or really hate...

Alright the most recent films I saw

Aliens-The second movie was so predictible that I left the room came back ten minutes later and called every event that happen. It was scary at times but so predictible it ruined it.

Anchorman-This is one funny movie. The newsteam fight might have been one of the ten funniest scenes in the history of cinema.

Super Troopers-another funny film. The beginning is so funny that me and my friends quote it all the time. Very uneven. Sometimes is hilarious others not very funny.

POC 2: DMC-This movie upset me. All that build-up and yet the end was just there to make you pay them more to see the sequel. If you see it don't expect a good ending.

Re: So...What Movie Did You Just Watch?

Pirates of the Caribean 2
Better than the first one, though I think this was because the writers all got together, went to a bar somewhere, got seroiusly stoned, and then started coming up with ideas :)

I mean seriously, how drunk do you have to be to come up with that "20,000 leagues under the sea" inspired part where the octupus man is playing the organ with his tentacles? I was laughing so hard at that part, and it was kind of sad because I think the writers actually wanted the viewers to take that as some deep connection to the bad guy... Didn't happen. It actually had some parts that were interesting, that I haven't seen entirely before, and the acting is superb. The writers actually gave the charicters some decent dialouge to work with this time.

Yeah, the ending sucked, but not nearly as bad as the first one. It reminded me so much of the ending in halo 2, though I didn't quite have that same feeling of chucking something at the screen.

Overall:
Good, not great, but definently a step in the right direction from the first film. Long, but It was enjoyable.

The movie "World Trade Center" should be view by everyone. This movie opens your eyes again about the world and how anything can happen. It shows the hard work of many different Americans that come and help out in need. Yes, at times I got emotional because it deals with a subject that not many people want to bring back. However, in a way it brings the spirit of unity and how we should all work together. So I recommend you and your friends should see it.

Since I feel bad for poc2 because of all you're making fun of it, I'll say something cool about it.

Did anyone notice that diadora's necklace or ring or whatever was the same symbol as on davy jones's music box? Is she the woman he fell in love with? She's certainly untameable.

I thought it was a little long, but funny and action packed. But elizabeth and her little triangle is pissing me off.

Oh and yesterday I saw Saw II. I liked it, not as scary, but not a bad sequel. Can't wait for the 3rd one, but hope its the last, the premise is getting a little old.

Just my $0.02.

On another note: I watched Kingdom of Heaven the other night... again. Great movie. I love it. I'm going to watch whatever movie my girlfriend brought over today. I forgot what it is.

So I realized that my post above kind of gives stuff away, whoever is in charge of such things can edit it if they wish.

And I also realized that I said I'd say something cool about the movie, but I didn't say anything positive.

So here I go,

It did its job of getting me excited for the third one beautifully. It also made the characters more realistic. It shows the flaws in the characters. In the first movie everyone had just met so their friendship was new and very short, they didn't have time to show their flaws and true character.

They made a few changes from the original graphic novel, although I'm not familiar enough with it to tell you just how much. From what I hear, in the original story it was very ambiguous as to who was good, V or the Party Leader, while in the movie it's pretty obvious V's the good guy.

I saw Pirates of the Carribean 2 lastnight and everyone was right. I didn't expect it to end so... abruptly. And the fact that the two people sitting next to us were making out and "fooling around" (I think) didn't help. Did I mention they were the other couple on the double date? I swear, kids these days.

Just watched Benchwarmers. Thought it was hilarious and it's kinda funny to see a movie character named after you when your name is Clark (I don't know too many Clarks).

Monster House
A short but sweet monster movie for the kids that comes across as a bit too Amazing Stories-ish for it's own good but it works well up until the end where it gives in to it's sentimental roots that plague kids movies and tries to clean up the ending so not to disturb. Too bad really. A little darkness wouldn't have hurt in my opinion.

My Super ex-Girlfriend
Another film that is a better concept than a film. It never really takes off and it fumbles along all film long and there's nothing that really sticks out. Very disappointing.

The Ant Bully
Surprisingly enjoyable and well designed film with an engaging and endearing performance form Julia Roberts (who I usually cannot stand). I enjoyed the inner workings of the anthill colony and how their society works. It gets boggy near the end (I feel the writers had no idea how to end it) but overall highly recommended.

At least you didn't have some woman cackling helplessly throughout the film as if she overdosed on laughing gas.
If I wanted a laugh track with my movie I would've stayed home and watched a sitcom for free!

No matter how hard I try to ignore people that do this, it's nearly impossible. The last time I went to a movie with these two, they sat in front of us and the guy threw popcorn behind him until I asked him for some and took the bag away. That's the bad thing about the theater with $5 tickets and free stale popcorn and watered down pop. Last night was the last time I'm going with them.

Anyways, I just finished watching V for Vendetta. It's a really good movie. I like it. The explosions are amazing. Heh. "Remember, remember, the fifth of November..." I love that. Now off to see Boondock Saints for the 83rd time.

I just saw one of the worst movies ever made over the weekend. Nick Cage in "Wickerman". It just goes to show you that there are still amateur film makers out there who prey on the movie going public. The makers ended up with a 45 minute feature so they added tons of nonsensical and unrelated subplots to fill time. Flashbacks are OK when they tell part of the story. Here the flashbacks had nothing what so ever to do with the plot. Stay away!

I must say i second that opinion...it was definently one of the funniest movies i've ever seen!

But recently i just watched Beerfest and Roadtrip. They were also funny movies!

Glory

Morgan Freeman
Denzel Washington
Matthew Broderick

My daughter will be writing a paper for History and checked out some movies to watch for inspiration and to help her decide her topic.

I had watched Glory before. It is about the spirit of the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts.

Its really cool basically take alot of ideas and forsights from 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 then a little Matrix style action and your good to go.

The Illusionist.

It was much much better than I thought it would be. In the first 5 minutes I said, "this movie is going to suck really bad" but I was very wrong.

Great cast, great movie in general.

plus, I love Edward norton.

Princess Bride. Gosh, that really is one of the best movies ever.

Re: So...What Movie Did You Just Watch?

Miami Vice

This movie really has nothing to do with the well-known show from the 80's other than the characters names and that's a good thing. I thought the show was a bit gaudy and had a bit of a cheese factor going that this movie did away with early. It's gritty and brutal but some of the performances are stiff (like surprisingly Jamie Foxx) and the ending is abrupt and feels like Mann had no real idea how to end it. It's good but it feels like Jan to Colleteral's Marcia.
B

Crank
Crank is like a mashup between Jackass and those trendy high octane crime pics from Guy Ritchie. The best thing about the movie is that it never slows down and the main character is an unlikable anti-hero who they thankfully do not try to soften even at the end. The Chinatown scene is this year's puppet sex. A riot.
B

The Deaprted
A brutal, funny, suspensful, well-written well acted masterpice. I see multiple Oscars comming this films way. Perhaps this will be the one that Martin Scorcese finally breaks though and get the trophy he so richly deserves.

On a side note I watch the movie with my wife and her friends. One who's son is in the film as an extra (he was one of the cadets at the beggining of the film). They were having quite a good time trying to ID Nick.
A+

So, the front of this movie reads "Best Comedy Since 40-Year Old Virgin." I love 40YOV and was a little skeptical. But Thank You For Smoking was amazing. The best satire I have ever seen.

I bought X-3 for the extras... I've already seen the movie, and plan on watching it 50 more times (in a perfect world).

I went to a friends house Thursday night... we watched a bunch of movies.

1. Space Balls - great, even after the 20th time
2. Resevoir Dogs - I STILL don't like Tarantino...
3. Sick - mix of a "C" movie and cheesy adult film
4. Hook - started watching it, but left in the middle. Still a good movie.

Well, let's see...the last movie I saw in theaters was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, but the last movie I watched was Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. I must have this thing for action movies with long titles. :p

Be warned, You need to watch movies, as many as possible, people coming in will ask you how good a movie was, what awards has it won, is it more like movie A or Movie B, etc. People also have a bad habit of asking for tickets with out knowing the name of a movie, for example, Can I have 2 for that movie with Nicholas Cage in it, or worse Will Ferrel, come on he did 6 movies in 2005. Some times people even ask, for the movie with that guy from another movie. Try to figure out what movie people want to know "Do you have the movie with that guy from wedding crashers" Of course that could be Click(Christopher Walken), You me and Dupree(Owen Wilson), The Break Up(Vince Vaughn), or even Talledega Nights(Will Ferrel), all of which had previews out at the same time. Any way, get to know your movies, and if you don't know them then find out who does, nothing solves you being stumped better than, I'm not sure but you can ask the person ripping tickets, he is usually pretty good.

Any way, back to the topic, I saw an early screening of School for Scoundrels, my initial reaction was that it was good but once I digested it I realized it really wasn't good at all, if you want a quick laugh go see it, If you want a hysterical movie that you will quote later then keep waiting for Blades of Glory.

I finally bought Airplane, It is amazing, if you haven't seen it then do it, now. Better yet, rent it, caddy shack, Animal House, Stripes, and Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy grail, and then have a weekend in your house.

I am a little behind on movies because I am away at school but I will catch up when I go home.

The last movie I watched was a Sundance film (British) called Dirty Filthy Love. It's about a man with OCD and Tourettes Syndrome dealing with divorce and other relationships... found it in the comedy section of Blockbuster and while I will admit there were some funny parts, I do not consider it a straight-out comedy because some parts were very, very sad.

It was a good enough movie to make me take risks on other Sundance films (in other words, I liked it)

DVD: Team America World Police. First time watching it- very funny.

In the theater: Borat. What a great movie. I love smaller budget films that are unique and totally blow out big budget (big actor) movies.

Recent veiwings:

Open Season
A humerous little movie that comes a little too close to the much better Over the Hedge for my taste. There are a couple of outright guffaws (the Elliot ruined Bear show for one and the dam break) but mostly nothing really stands out that can be commited to long term memory. C

Happy Feet
I was surprised by this little gem. It's a very simple story (be yourself no matter what everybody else says and you'll end up changing the culture) told in a very unique manner with the odd music mashups. It was quite fun to watch.
This movie made me smile and was my favorite movie from last year. A+

The Pursuit of Happyness
Happyness is definately a vehicle for Will Smith to show off his acting skills. And he is very good here. Definately award worthy marterial. Good work from his son Jaden as well.
The movie is a bit grim but has a streak of hopefullness throughout it. It ends very abruptly but not a bad way to spend time at the movies. B

Prestige
It's official: Christopher Nolan is my favorite director.
THis twisty turner little mind bender that challnages the audiance as well as entertains them is power by terrific performances throughout from the high caliber cast. Particularly Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale who are amazing in the film! A+

I think I attempted to watch American Commandos. I bought it with another VHS for like, three dollars. Well, it was produced in like, 1984. It's terrible. Never watch it. Not only is it one of those extremely unrealistic war movies where the people will shoot an M16 in each hand, but the acting is miserable... I mean, I was almost embarrassed to watch it myself. I bought the movie Unholy along with it. Produced in 1987 I think. Meh, it'll be just as bad. My advice to you, don't buy movies made before 1990.
