How long is your arm?

with all these pictures of arms and such it is hard to find out how long the arm is in the picture. so i did a search and i didnt find a poll on this so im making one.

Re: How long is your arm?

Our arm is somewhere between 8 and 9 feet when fully extended, but we may limit the amount it can go out because of stability problems...

Re: How long is your arm?

Our arm is about over 8 feet long and extended from the top of the robot would be reach about 12 feet.

Re: How long is your arm?

hmm... interesting i didn't expect another team to have the same length as our team. good job guys!

Our arm is about 2 feet. There was no spot for that so I couldn't vote. Our elevator, well that's a different story.

I think people are getting carried away with having a really long arm. It doesn't mean a thing if you aren't stable. It's like being a basketball player with hops but no handle.

Dang I should retract my vote, I put 7, that is our arm length, but max height is 12 feet, so well whatever. Check out our arms picture its in the gallery.

in an attempt to keep our robot a secret untill we unveil it..ill just say we had to watch how high we went so we wouldnt hit the celing of the truck shop we work at. Remember, trucks are about 17 feet high...

Re: How long is your arm?

Fully extended we're about 14 feet high, and VERY stable :D

Re: How long is your arm?

RAGE can go about 12.5 feet, and we can do it in about 3 seconds video can be found here. http://rage173.org/video.php?catid=2...gle&videoid=15

Re: How long is your arm?

We've got a 10 foot "elevator shaft" with a 3 foot arm coming off it (i think), so the hypotenuse is about 10-11 feet

seeing everyone was staying how tall there arm was i guess i can say that Team 1259's arm reaches 11' in the air and we have so many anti tip devices if you see us on the gound take a picture because that will be the ONLY TIME!!!! :D

Looking at about 10', give or take a few (or several) inches. It's still negotiable right now, though. We've got a couple changes in plans that are being worked out...nothing like livin' it up to the last second! Gotta love this game...

Better to have the ability to go super high, and not use it, then to lose a match because you were out-capped. Besides, stability is easily achieved through the use of outriggers.

We can reach up roughly 12.5 feet from the ground....

I disagree completely. Removing a joint (or extension) from your arm and losing 2-3 feet of reach for the sake of a greatly simplified, faster, more robust, etc, etc arm can be very well worth it. If you can cap faster and more reliably the majority of the time, you can definitley make up for the few times you get outcapped.

You bring up a good point, espescially if you subscribe to the view that very few tetras will be capped per goal. I don't have a good response really, and it's too late for us to change

for our arm design the base of the tetra will be about 10ft from the ground

16+ is very long? anybody think some teams will show up without a drivetrain? (just sit at the back, propped up and play it from there)

Re: How long is your arm?

Our arm is a little over 12'.

Re: How long is your arm?

Our arm is about 9 feet and can stack about two tetras on the center goal

How in the world do you get a 17 foot arm to stay stable in the air with about 10 pounds at the end.

MisterX 17-02-2005 13:19

Re: How long is your arm?

During match play we go up to 9' on the mast (11 feet before we put in limit switches and left some room for grip) and then a 3' and change actuating arm so stright vertical we are just over 12 but we never cap straight up so in matched most we will be going total that I forsee is 11ish which is still pretty nifty

Pielord 19-02-2005 16:56

Re: How long is your arm?

9 feet and there still whining about lifting all the weight!!!!!!!!!!!!

ductape_man 19-02-2005 23:34

Re: How long is your arm?

we can get 15 ft maxed out, but that might cause us to tip over....so 12 ft is our safety zone
