Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
can i say holy crap red is beating blue bad... but then again. im not too sure many teams can cap as high as that blue is doing right now lol :D im impressed
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
WOW!!!!!!!!! :ahh:
now that's just plain cool!! great job as always guys-- can't wait to see the full bot photo |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
What has raul convinced you guys to do this time!!!! :ahh:
Cant wait to see what the other Motorola team came up with, but the arm definitely looks cool. |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
*stares/blinks* wow.....
just HOW many feet can it reach? |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
*passes out*
aren't you all concerned with the height of the arena's you will be competing in.....jeez that is nuts |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Thats incredibly impressive. I guess my question would have to be... Why? Do you anticipate ever even coming close to needing that arm length?
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
How did you get the tetras off?
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Great job again.
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
I see Wildstang and Court have much in common, besides the fact that she is on Wildstang. Both of them stay really really busy, but put a whole load of effort towards every goal.
I love you court >_< , but you and your team are insane :P. <3 |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Hmm...more importantly then how many are there, how long did it take to do that? How many do you think you'll be able to do per match?
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
WOW, is that the CN tower?
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
that looks really nice, im impressed, but i would be even more impressed if i knew how long it takes to reach the stacking height, and how efficient is it, can you drive with your arm up, w/o worrying about tipping over, or will you have to raise, then put, then come back down just to move again, but really wow, im amazed, but if you could tell the time that would be great too
great job :) |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
WOW! I count 16 red tetras capped...and there's a gap between the goal and the blue tetra...AND that looks like the centre goal :ahh: Looks great:).
|

Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
I count eighteen tetras, with room for more.
I normally only do this for music, but this just begs for it... |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Man, am I glad that you guys are not at our regional.
You know, not that you'd ever be able to stack that high during a match--there's no way you can possible get that many tetras into play, let alone stack them. But I will have you know that everyone here at 1073 headquarters is somewhere between drooling in envy and vomiting in rage. --Petey |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I count 17 stacked...so thats 8'+ 2.5' for the height of the top tetra, + 5'ish for the goal height....so thats 15.5' and it looks like you guys grab near the top of a tetra so thats another 2.5' for clearance...so thats at least 18'.
Now...please tell me you guys can go 20' just for the sake of 20' (and retaining your record of tallest robot for many more years to come)!! You guys are insane...keep it up. I can't wait to see it in action at Midwest. Kev |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
I'll wait to see the rest of the bot, but I think this is a little overkill guys. But still, congrats.
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
While I too think this is very cool, I'm not entirely sure what the advantage of making such a long arm is...if any. I can't imagine that you'll ever even see half as many tetras on a goal during most matches. Seems that all you're doing is creating more ways for your robot to tip over.
But then again I know you guys are smarter than that and there has to be a reason. So I'll just shut up and wait for a pic of the full bot :p |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
*sigh* we don't even HAVE that many tetras.
i wanna see a full pic!!!!!! |

Or maybe they aren't concerned about falling over cause their arm can right the robot. :) Wetzel |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
nice job wildstang lol :D
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Come on guys....what else could we expect.....its Wildstang!!! Awesome piece-o-work guys!
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Daaaaaammmmnnn!!! Thats massive. For saftey reasons, i hope the stacks at the competitions are not that tall. Now that i see that, im curious how the field crew is going to take the tetras off, i dont think they are banking on that tall a stack too often
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
geeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzz! Thats a LOT of Tetras! :yikes:
Great job as usual. One question, though. How many tetras can WildStang stack at one time? |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
I count 17.. with the 18th being the blue the robot has in hand... insane guys.. it looks very impressive. One question- is your drivetrain as awesome as your arm length?
|

Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
*jaw drops.
no ******* way. Now that is an engineering marvel. |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Very nice. Everyone please keep in mind that they are not the only one that can go that high. I have already seen teams that match that. ;). The real question is how long does it take you stack all of them, and what is the extent of robot controllability at this level of height. Still i give you props, just don't get over confident yet.

Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
My guess is that it reaches...roughly 15 feet high, but, i doubt it is driveable at that hieght, one slight bump and it'll be blocking the whole field when it falls over. :ahh:
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
I'm so disappointed that you guys aren't coming to Sacramento...I wanna see this thing live!
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
WOW!!! That is really impressive. Awesome work from what I seen already.
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
I wouldn't be surprised if they're going that high that they will bring back the wedges from 2003....
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Why go so high - we asked ourselves the same question - there is minimal advantage to going so high. Yes, we are foolish only because we have a reputation of making high lifts and we had to live up to our tradition. It just would not have been right for us to go only 10 feet high even if that is all anyone would need 95% of time.
It would not surprise me to see another team go higher. But we did not want to just be "average" height. It is fairly stable at that height - we do have a "base expansion" mechanisum and alot of weight down low and at the opposite end. We did drive around slowly while up high but quick spins are out of the question. By the way, it is a side goal - not the center goal. How long? Well much longer than 2 minutes. Like I said, you have to manever slowly when at that height. |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
wow thats amasing.. you made soo many tetras! musta taken a while :-P
p.s. ( great achievement ) |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Another amazing machine by Wildstang, you guys rock. Also, I can see an advantage of going that high, and if I'm thinking what Wildstang is about that height, WATCH OUT EVERYBODY
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005

We can definitely not go that high. That is a crazy stack. Way to go Wildstang! Andy B. |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
(What you can't see, is that their 2005 robot is sitting on top of their 2001 robot, which is sitting on top of their 2003 robot... teamwork.)
Right? Riiiight?!?! ;) Looks great guys! Can't wait to see it in person! |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Hmmm, so why did they not post a picture of the entire robot which would have likely made the height even more impressive... What's moving that thing, Wildstang?
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Wow. Can't wait to see that thing in action. So where is the cool promo video put to rap music like last year?
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
yet again wildstang has us at agh and we havent even seen their base! Good job guys, always pushing the bar higher for the rest of us

Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
That is just amazing, I cant wait to see 111 at Nat's again this year, hopefully on the same alliance though.
the following is not being said, typed whatever, in an angry way at all :) There have been some comments so far questing how and why they would make there arm so long, Since they have not released the rest of the bot or how it works those comments are mostly uncalled for, maybe wildstang can stack all of those tetras in one match, who knows? so just wait and see what else they have to show before people try to bring down a really great achievement. And I am not talking about constructive criticism just my 2 cents. |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
wow way to go wild stag!!!!! but the thing is how long did that take you to get that high .... i bet its not 2 min. see you at regionals!!!!
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
That's impressive, I'd like to see some video of it in action. :]
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
OK James, you were right - we do need the deployable wedge again this year :D
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
at the bottom of the picture i bet there are 3 or 4 kids holding that arm up, not a robot. ha.
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
omfg banannas :ahh:
I want to see if you have made any changes to your infamous crab-drive and stang-ps. |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
To everyone who thinks it is too high and that they would not be able to stack that many in 2 minutes: There are six robots on the field at a time and they are all (hopefully) going to be stacking tetras. If all of them start stacking on the middle goal, it will easily get that high in a 2 minute match. The question is not what one robot can stack in the match, it is how high will the stack from six robots get?
|

Wow how high is that? a good 15 feet perhaps?? :ahh:
You guys are crazy... |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
does the goal bend inwards with 130+ pounds on it? if so.. you can get more height.. hah -- that's why they are going that high
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Awww.... Where's your signature Tie-Dye? :p
That is one amazing trick you guys can do! Awesome! How do you keep your robot from tipping though? I like your design! Its better to be different from the average 'bot, that's what makes an idea like that a winner :) .... And you are probably going to the same regionals as us, aren't you? I gotta see your robot in action! |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
From the looks of that gripper i wouldn't be surprised if the get 2 or 3 in there somehow and then plop them down on a goal.
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
:ahh: OMG!!! How high is the reach on that arm?!? Very good job by the way, though idk if anybody would need an arm that long in competition....
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
now that i'm a bit more confident in our robots abilities ... i am sad you guys aren't coming to UCD ... ! it would be cool to have some more elite teams like the cheesypoofs etc... to see some more competition
|

We usually put the tie-dye on on Thursday at our first competition, so that it can accomodate any last-minute changes we make. |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Add one more excitement point to the list of reasons why Boilermaker Regional is going to be one to look forward to, seeing this puppy in action.
Great work guys, anything new and exciting to look forward to in the electronics/programming areas? |

Am I the only one who sees multiple Tetra grippers on that bad dad?
I am thinking that they can hold at least 2 and I would not be surprised to discover that Wildstang V10.0 actually holds and or stores 4, 5, 6 maybe even 10 Tetras. Really. I can see that crab drive of theirs going from loading station to loading station, piling up the tetras on their machine only to drive over and make like The Bumble with that stack of tetras, only it won't be Stars on Christmas Trees they'll be scoring but points on the board ;-) Just some guesses into the mind of WildStang... Joe J. |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
I'm not sure if this idea has already been considered, but could the main use of such a long arm be to reach multiple goals from one position and not just for high stacking? The sense I am getting fromn these forums is that a long arm and high stacking is not practical or highly possible, so instead of using the arm for vertical purposes, could 111 use it for horizontal, aka multiple goal use?
Just my 2 cents... |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
How does the robot not fall over, and how far outside the 38" x 28" rectangle does it reach?
|

Hey Raul, if you get this I would love to see the calculations you did to come up with that height.
Excellent job to all of Wildstang. I miss working late nights there. Now I have to work late nights writing lab reports. Fun-fun. Good luck in competition. Can't wait to see the drive system. |
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
WOW!!! How high does that arm extend?
|
Re: pic: Wildstang 2005
Wow, now that's impressive!
