well, I'm a mentor, 20 years old, was on the team in highschool that i mentor on now (494), i still have girls at the competitions coming up to flirt with me, they usually think i'm a student and ask to have their pictures taken with me, i have to break their hearts every year and tell them I'm not a student, i still have a few that IM me wondering what competitions i'm going to be at :D

I've picked up a few ladies at competitions when i was in highschool, hmmm does anyone have any attractive young mentors or Coaches *wink* *wink*

bc pick-up lines are fun! in jest and all. I mean, if you're not all sleezy about it, and then laugh and introduce yourself it's all good.
I joke about it with ppl all the time, I think they are simply so creative, that you would go to such leanths to talk to a girl. Given I perfer ppl to b honest/blunt at times, pick-up lines, in my view, take some presser off, and make everything easy. But I know most ppl don't think like me, so this is all a personal statement...
I've never use pick-up lines personally, but I don't mind them when they are used on me, as long as the other person understand that when i laugh, i'm laughing with them, not at them... haha

nway, if you are at a robotics comp, you are bound to run into creative ppl, so relish in it! just be respectful!

I HAVE! I feel your pain! The Pac. NorthWest regional (in Seattle) 2 years ago... There was this one guy, a volunteer for FIRST or something. He was doing inspections for robots in the pits, and he ALWAYS came over and started talking with me whenever he wasn't doing something. He'd put his arm on me and flirt with me openly. It was freaking scary.

AND... Hmmm... There was one other really good pickup line, but I just forgot it. I'll add it in later when I remember it.

I dunno if this on here and I don't have the time to read 43 pages :cool: but tons of people I know always get from electrical to stripping :/ its like "I was stripping" and then everyone realizes and stops... so some guys turn it into a pick up line and are all "So you need to practice stripping? Want to in front of me?" Always fun when they're kidding :)

i dunno if this counts as a pickup line... but at the chatsworth scrimmage this weekend, this guy just flat out bSTARED at me every time he passed me or i was standing around him. it was kinda creepy. lol. so guys... if you're gonna stare at a girl, make sure that either she doesn't notice, or that she doesn't think you're a stalker. :D

Ididnt use a line but a girl at a comp came up to me and was coming on to my friend asking if i could get him to take a picture with her; being the nice guy i am i set them up together, then i found out she never liked him it had been a roundabout way of getting my info! it worked and i only wish we lived closer....

and simliar ideas, at competition i think the worst was not the pick up lines but the guys that come up and try to help you with everything, its a nice gesture but you superglue is a one person job.

One of the greatest things I heard was last year at Regionals we were allied with team 1048 and 303 for the finals at MidAtlantics. As we were preparing in our pit and reviewing scouting information, I had a guy come up behind me and tell me to take off my shirt. I was completely caught off guard, and was in a deep discussion with my driving partner - in the mean time, both he and my partner started laughing because they realized that I had no idea who he was. The guy that had walked up to me, and told me to take my shirt off was the driver from 1048 which we were allied, and we were going to go spy on the drawing board of an opposing team in an upcoming match.

...pfew, that caught me off guard , LOL!

Okay, this is a little backwards. My first year at Nats a girl walked up to me and used the old "Did it hurt?","Did what hurt?","When you fell from heaven." thing. I immediatly knew something was up, and sure enough a couple guys from my team were off to the side with a video camera.

They made people do some weird stuff to get those little stuffed peguins we were handing out...

In 2001 in Florida during nationals one of our male team members fell asleep in the pits. So being the good team mates that we are ;) , we poured water on his lap and had a girl from another team wake him up asking if their was something wrong!! lol

It was priceless... LOL

Conclusion: You don't need no stinkin' pick up lines, just some great team mates to help you in your cause!!! lol

also earlier ppl were saying stuff about relationships taking up too much time- a relationship is what you want it. you dont need to talk to your bf every day, you dont need to see him every day let alone every week. find a guy thats as busy as you or that cares enough about u to realize that your worthwhile even if you're busy.

If an anoying kid comes up 2 u or just someone comes up and says, "What's up?" respond with, "My (part of male anatomy) " It katches ppl of guard cause its never something ne one is ready 4. I thought it was ammusing u may find it krude or piglike but w/e My friend said it 2 a guy who was hitting on her and he went away FAST.

This last weekend at the portland regional was one of the sadest things I have ever seen. As a person and a robotics student I was very um well scared. These infamous kids in capes didn't show up the first day and knew nothing about robotics. Seriously their robot was a Fridge. But that wasn't the bad thing. We have 5 girls on our team and well there guys were a little off to say the least.. The events that soon went down were quite scary... Well we shall call her roberta so this roberta has no involvement with the capes but still managed to get the unfortunete task of having a pocket full of email address... they even asked roberta and another girl we will call denise to swing dance with them.. it was quite funny.. but hey these guys pulled it together as a rookie team and were auctually pretty cool.. some of the peope on our team might have been a little scared but without them we wouldn't have made such a impact at the portland and we have to thank Chunky Dunawell for that...

but i congratulate them on a great first-year effort, and they're already making a reputation, which is crucial at competitions...

If I remember correctly...last year (around Prom time or so) there were alot of posts on CD about looking for the one. Heck...there were even some student run dating services going on.

This kind of thing, I think, happens whenever you get a whole bunch of girls and guys together in one place.

It wasn't for robotics but at some expo I went to this one guy was handing out pin withs binary on it the blue ones for guys and pink for girls anyway all the pink ones had pick up lines on it in binary (like... Voyager 3 was ahead of its time in saying Uranus is magnetic) it was hilarious :yikes:

Wow, the things guys will say to try to get girls. They guys these day just don't know how to treat girls. There was a guy at the robot compitition approaching girls and interviewing them. I don't know what he was saying, but it oviously wasn't good.

In my experience this year, I met one great guy at one regional, and one creepy weird guy at another. So...I'll be at the Omni if ppl are up for hangin'. Anyone up for a hack circle? You'll know me by my totally random sayings and comments...and the jokes that get more lude but funnier as it gets later. I just wanna have fun at Atlanta...no more mopin' cuz I'm in the stands with mean ppl. :headbang:

Well, I really don't know about your team but no guys on my team is really cute. But beauty comes from within! I say that it's best to know a person's heart before you judge them.

Just a suggestion, but when refering to talking to girls and such never eveeeer use/ refer to things as "lines", i doubt that if you were a girl you would want to her "lines" from some boy (unless it was poetry or somthing)
