A strange phenomenon
 

I was leaving last class when i caught myself walking towards the tech lab, even though i had just finished crating and shipping our robot not an hour earlier. There were 5 or 6 robotics kids already there, and we all just sat around sheepishly, and ate some of the sandwiches which were delivered to us for the last time. We left, and planned to come back for tommorow to make spare parts.

Anyone else felt that? The robot's done, youre not really going to make antying and you still end up down at your shop..


(Also, Ill miss the six week period, i loved it alot, too bad i wont be around for another year)

Absolutely.

Our team is losing our home of the past 3+ years, so today I went in all by my lonesome to start organizing and cataloging everything so we can be ready for the move at the end of the month. Truth is I didn't have to go, but I had gotten so used to being there that it came naturally to just drive over and get to work.

As far as your not being around for another year, hopefully you can find/start a team wherever you decide to go. Good luck to you.

No matter how close to the build it was, you could *always* find FIRSTers hanging around the Tech Center from the time the first teacher got there, til we got kicked out at night. It wasn't just a place we built our robot 6 weeks out of the year, it was a gathering place and a home-away-from-home, of sorts. :)

This is why I'm starting on projects that will hopefully continue into years after I'm gone. The manufacturing crew loves to build, and we've still got a lot of energy. All the freshmen in the crew hung around until they were told that there wasn't anything to do, even though we knew the bot shipped today. It's great seeing them getting so excited about the robot. Next year's my last year and I want to leave the club in good hands.

yeah, we shipped before the lunch break. Half the team turned up at lunch break and no one knew what to do. Just sort of sitting around eating sandwhiches, arguing about the name of the robot....
Maybe i'll see if i can set up another UK First team....that would be cool....

The lab where my team built their bot is located between where I park and where I have most of my classes. On the way from my class to my truck, I actually went in, and sat down by the lathe without thinking about it at all. Once I realized that I was losing my mind, it was a very depressing feeling that I felt.

During the build season, you can't wait to finish the robot, and compete. This purgatory state of misdirection is very depressing. The only way I can get excited again is to go through and scout every single bot in my division by several methods, watch videos from past competitions, and build a fantastic crate. Unfortunately, building a crate only mimics the satisfaction that the build season provides. Wait, I think I may actually have a physiological addiction to FIRST. wow... robots.... robots.... *Runs to the lab to build an exact duplicate of the robot*
