CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Yep, it's me again.
Here are the scores: Code:
Gary Dillard 91http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pi...&quiet=Verbose (Here's a hint--don't close the window of your picture, then copy your scores over. This contest would've had five extra minutes if it weren't for that.) Ah well...as always, Midnight Saturday. (I feel like I should give richardp the Price Is Right Award for coming the closest to the deadline without going over. Seriously, go look--it was exactly midnight on Saturday.) Go! |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
remember those wheres the filling commercials?
entry 1: Where is the basketball? |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Team 237 cheering: Think you can play basketball, try to dunk over our robot. ya... what what what what ... thats what we thought.
|
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
In an attempt to teach Elgin how to play basketball, team 237's drivers bust out the moves. In the end, Elgin was a lost cause, but team 237 got some valuble practice in.
|
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
The robot was big,
The robot was bad, It made all others jealous It made all others mad The robot was challenged to dunk And we wished it the best of luck The robot surely did it But now it's just stuck.... |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
After taking on the top teams in the world of FIRST Robotics Team 237 thought it would be a great idea to challenge the local high school basketball team. WoW look at that hang time :ahh: :ahh: :ahh:

Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
"In your face Shaq O'Neil!"
(no hasketball was damage in this demo) ;) |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
What happens when "Guido", Team 237's well-meaning but colorblind and shape-recognition-challenged autonomous robot programmer, mistakenly calibrates his robot's vision camera to track orange circles instead of yellow triangles? You get this result. Now that's some relentless programming!
Guido now makes $10,000,000 a year building robot player replacements for the NBA. See if you ever make fun of another colorblind person again! HA! |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Team 237 celebrated wildly as their robot had dunked in the winning shot but did not notice that the basket was waved off and the team was called for a technical foul because the robot was hanging on the rim.
|
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Team mentor: "I'm not mad, I'm just amazed how you got it up there with the arm fully extended..."
|
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Announcer: Wow, not only did that robot slam dunk it, but it gave 50 extra points to their alliance! Sheesh, Bob, I can't believe it...this robot knows how to score and score well!
|
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Hmmmm, I wonder if I'm exempt since I was there and took part in said photo. ;)
<now for my entry> Having realized the arm 237 designed was somewhat weak the braintrust (ie. engineers) of 237 decided to have it do 100 pull-ups everyday for a week to strengthen those arm cylinders. |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Slap the backboard like Shaq 'cause I dunk off the pass. --Zebrahead.
|
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
"Man, we really need a shot clock..."
|
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Shortly thereafter, Ron Artest threw a fit, a fan threw a beverage, and Team 237 was forced to leave the court with a towel over their electronics panel.
I still blame Detroit. |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Billfred: 'I call shenanigans--not only with the rusty steel pole not being legal, but we can clearly see that is photoshopped.'
Elgin: 'Ok, it is true that the rusty pole is not really there - caught us again billfred' |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Team 237's shameless attempts to attract Nike as a corporate sponsor proved futile; According to Elgin, "If only we could have grabbed the big balls, things would have been different."

The funny thing is that we DO have a mentor we nicknamed Guido - Well, actually he gave himself that nickname, but it still is funny. It would be even more funny if he were a mentor on the programming team, and not the mechanical team. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also, the funny thing about that day, was that we did this at a D.A.R.E. day event, and the kids enjoyed it this sight so much, the 4 cops that were standing in the vicinity, and also watching from a distance, had grins on their faces. I was expecting them to yell at us, but they were cool about it. </not an entry> |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
"team 237's original design was to make a robot that could bowl. they where sucessful, but the idea of bowling balls going 200 ft/s did not appleal to the team after 5 members lost their legs"
"now sucessful with basket ball, a DDR robot is in the planning phase |

I also agree since that would help my average score and hopefully make me as funny as Gary Dillard. As close as that was I still think that 116's chairmans award was more impressive, with only 10 seconds to spare. (I am only waiting to think of something funny before I post an entry) </NOT ENTRY> |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
And at the end of the day, the 237 robot was left hanging, still waiting for the alli-oupe from Dave Lavery. His excuse - he heard there was a new Krispy Kreme store opening.

Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Me :Is that JVN by those cars?
Aaron :I don't think so. Well actually... Me :Oh my god theres a robot hanging on the rim!! Where the heck did that come from? Aaron :Yeah, well now that you mention it i think it is JVN.... |

<obviously not an entry>
Actually Gary, you technically have the lead in the contest, by virtue of having a higher average score. Now, if you two had the same average score, then technically you'd still be listed over Heidi (G comes before M in the alphabet), but I'd be calling it a tie. And Gary and Richard, don't forget The Heidi Foster Rule.</non-entry of obviousness> |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
It's better to build a robot and lose a match than to have ever played basketball at all.
(stolen from an old wrestling team slogan) Andy B. |
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Note to self: Never, ever lend your car keys to anyone from team 237.
|
Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
When Jessica told Team 237 that she needed them to "hang around for a while," I'm not sure that this was what she had in mind...

Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Team 237 PR specialist: (Smacks himself in head)
Students: "We did what you said...honest!" PR: "Why do you guys take it so literally?(*sigh*).........This is not what I meant when I said we needed more air time!" <Not Entry> Quote:

Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #34
Team 237 takes a tip from the best, and gets their robot set to pick up some ladies.
Girl: That's a miiiighty fine robot you've got there. Robot: Go back to Indiana, shorty. |
