Josh MA Robotics - Team 766 ----- EDIT ------ I was refering to a game yesterday 3/4/05, but it might have only been 78 points, I dun think so tho. We did have quite a few rounds with a 70's range score |

Re: Sacremento Results
we were 2 seconds away (i swear) from capping all 9 tretras in our quarters vs team 4 (692 and i forgot who else :( )and get 111 points :). O well, cant complain about 78 either :). We went lossess in elims, wooot. congrats to 245 and 766, great job helping out guys !!!
edit: just realized that 78 is higher than 72. Yay |
Re: Sacremento Results
I should point out that 254, the cheesy poofs, had never lost the sacremento regional, until now. :D They were finaly defeated by 245, 766 and 1072. We didn't have close matches in the finals, we dominated. The silicon valley regional will be very intreasting. 254 is still a tough team.

The game was alot more agressive this year than I expected .. and its much easier to get a penality than I expected also. The refs were tossing down so many flags that on Saturday, the ref would explain to the human player on why they got the points docked. There were alot of matches that were X-0 or 0-0. I cant wait for Atlanta :D |
Re: Sacremento Results
that was 753. Then they got dis qualified the first match of their quarters for knocking over 2 bots

Re: Sacramento Results
A big thanks to teams 254 and 1097 for picking us as the third member of the #1 seed alliance. 114 has never made it to the finals of a competion before so this was a great experience.
By the way team 114 won the Delphi award due to James Fry's amazing job designing and building our teams swivel drive train. The award was well deserved. |

Re: Sacramento Results
Rookie Inspiration Award went to team 1678 from Davis High School - They had to start two weeks late (due to a late payment and finals) but still were able to get it together and were stacking 1 to 2 tetras a match and even got some auto moves down. Not bad for a such a small team with limited engineering support. Many of us were worried there were going to be no rookies coming to the Sac/Davis competition, so it was nice to see some rooks there and they all were very successful and seem to have had positive experiences.

Yeah, that was a good team. We were next to them in the pits. For those who didnt have a chance to get a close look at their bot .. it was basically the kit-bot frame, with a aluminum stepladder bolted on, and tupperware containers for the side sheilds. Quite resourceful for a rookie team if you ask me .. those 2 parts, I would of never thought of putting on a robot. |
Re: Sacramento Results
Congrats to 1072 (and the rest of the alliance). I met one of your (1072) team members at Olin College during Candidates' Weekend. He seemed to feel the robot wasn't too functional after seeing a video of 639's, but I guess he was COMPLETELY wrong. :)

Re: Sacramento Results
yes this bot was significantly better than our other bots. And olin? i dont anyone at olin. Is he from cornell?
Edit: and congrats on your finger lakes win |
Re: Sacramento Results
I wanted to second Adrian’s thanking of 1388 on behalf of 254. Thank you guys so much for immediately coming over to us after those rough matches and offering the usage of your wheels; talk about sportsmanship and gracious professionalism. We count ourselves lucky to have friends such as 1388 in FIRST. Thank you all again.
I’d also like to thank the team on the other side of those matches for coming over to us after those matches and congratulating us and asking if we were alright, and if there was anything they could do. That was very big of them, and we appreciate it. I had a great time at the Sacramento Regional. Thanks to Raul Olivera and Dan Green for coming taking time away from their team and work to come out west and help out at the event. Thanks to Cory McBride for doing the same, except replace “team and work” with “school.” Thanks to Glenn Thoroughman and his daughter Krystine for helping out our team so much this year. Thanks to all the teams from out of state who came to compete. Finally, congratulations to the winning alliance of 245, 766, and 1072. You guys blew through a great alliance of 330, 56, and 1422 in the semis and then gave us a whooping in the finals. You guys were great. See you all in San Jose. -Bill |
Re: Sacramento Results
On behalf of 1072, I would like to thank team 1388 tremendously for allowing us to use your huge vice. In our second Qualification match on Saturday, 599 accidentally tipped us over (I accidentally put our manipulator too high while we were driving in high gear) and our robot fell on the side rails bending one of our linear bearings. Many teams thought we were out for the day, but 1388 allowed us to use their vice to straighten out the rail that was bent in two places. Without their help, it would have been a lot harder to come back and be ready for the Alliance matches.
And about the team member at Olin College who did not think highly of our bot this year...Who was this guy/girl? I don't remember any of our team members going to Olin College...then again I might be wrong. |
Re: Sacramento Results
Also just wondering but does anybody happen to have some nice quality video of the finals? My dad recorded only the first round of the finals but the quality was not that great.

Re: Sacramento Results
Hey 1097/254/114 great match against u guys in the finals rounds... we really gave it our best especially in the last match...we got 40 points in penalties... but even without them it was a fair victory for you guys ..... it was pretty hard to cap and get our arm aligned with 114s swerve drive defense! lol! ... i'm sure 610 gave you guys a hard time too!
alot of our members believed we would not get picked in the 1st round of alliance picking but hopefully get picked in the 2nd round by a top team... suprisingly we got picked in the first round by the 8th seed... not that it matters... we had a great time w/ 1120 and 610 |
Re: Sacramento Results
You too. We (1097/254/114) were sweating after our fist bout with you. We knew it would be tricky. Either way, it was fun. I don't know if you are going anywhere else, but if you are, good luck.
You know, not that I think of it, 5 of the local teams (Jesuit, St. Francis, Vanden, Elk Grove, and Granite Bay) made it to finals at Sacto. Not bad in my opinion. -Tony K |
Re: Sacramento Results
Didn't the 701 alliance make it to semifinals not finals. And 3 other teams from near san jose (114 Los Altos, 254 Bellarmine, 1072 Harker) made it to finals. Great job guys.
|
Re: Sacramento Results
701 was quarter finals. We lost our fist match to them. They were a ver defensive team with 701's arm being slightly fragile after the mend and 610 being purely defensive.

it was awesome cheering with all of you teams especially 1388, 56, 115, 1671, 841, 610, 701, and 692! the highlight was on friday night while waiting for the awards. the wave, going back and forth between teams, etc.. also congrats to the winners...you all had an awesome alliance who worked well together. nice job! also again thanks to all the teams for making this years regional so much fun!! |
Re: Sacremento Results

Now I want to say that I was very impressed by how graciously the drive team from 753 accepted this explanation, and they even apologized for their actions. We also acknowledge how smart they were by removing their arm for future matches so they could continue to play aggressive defense. And they got no further penalties after that. The other parameters that caused DQ's was when teams with wedges were running into and under the base of other robots causing them to tip. So, be aware of this if your robot has a wedge, in which case you may want to push them with the other side or not hit them with your wedge if they are extended and somewhat tipsy. |

This regional was wonderful. Davis was a superb venue and if the Sacramento regional lives on, it has found a wonderful new home. Congrats to the winning alliance. We lost to a superior alliance come that final round. you could tell in the final game of the finals that we (1097 254 and 114) we're out gunned. Good luck to all and Round 2 begins in San Jose. |

Here is an excerpt from the award essay by Courtney: "According to the dictionary definition, a hero is a man admired for his achievements and qualities. I would love to introduce you to Matt Driggs, team 330's hero, and the only mentor even nominated by the Beach Bot students for the Woodie Flowers award. Seven years ago, Mr. Driggs, a Raytheon engineer, decided to join our team. That decision would impact the entire team forever. Every single year since then as our lead mechanical engineer and drive team coach, Mr. Driggs has inspired and pushed our team to become the best that we can be. As a result, every single year, our team has improved, including our six regional first or second place finishes and eight awards. Beach Bot team mentor and member of the Southern California Regional Planning Committee Ric Roberts states, 'Matt Driggs creativity and excellent work ethic is contagious. He is a real hero the students can look up to.' " I include this for those of you who are wondering who this guy is, and also as an example of what kind of writing is needed to highlight the attributes of a winner. I've read the entire essay, and I think Courtney could get prizes for her writing. You can have the best team, robot, mentor, company, or product, but without good advertising, no one will know about it. Team 330 also won a Judges' Award, but somehow it was not as exciting as Matt getting the Woodie Flowers Award. |
Re: Sacramento Results
We (team 610) won the XEROX creativity award, for our strategy i guess.

WHAT,WHAT,WHAT,YEAH,OK!!!!! I was surprised that we won the judges award tho. I guess the judges liked our story. Anyway, the comp was really cool. Is it going to be at Davis for now on? It was a long walk to the closest Starbucks. |
