What about some ska? You know, Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones - some of that suff. And of course, who can forget the ska/punk/irish band, the Dropkick Murphys? When it comes down to it, if you want high-energy but don't want pop or hip-hop, punk/ska is the way to go.
But I agree with you DJ Fluck - we definately need some Nirvana. Perhaps more grunge/punk as well. Days of the Phoenix by AFI would be a great song. It's one of those songs where you just gotta throw up your arms and celebrate the energy beind punk culture (yeah yeah, some of you may not like 'punk culture,' but the music DOES have energy behind it). A lot of stuff off of the Bouncing Souls' Hopeless Romantic album - such as "Kate is Great" - would be great too (no pun intended). CD's would be great, except for the whole DMCA thing. That really puts a lid on fun promotions like that. <edit>"Kate is Great" isn't on Hopeless Romantic. But that doesn't change the fact the Hopeless Romantic has tons of good stuff. '87, Fight to Live, and It's Not the Heat, It's the Humanity are all great songs with tons of energy. And of course, how can you forget Ole - the cover of the ever popular euo-soccer anthem (and coincidentally, our team song). If you're into Bouncing Souls, Maniacal Laughter also has some good high-energy songs - but thats an earlier album, so it's not as musically advanced as Hopeless Romantic. However, I would recommend The Freaks, Nerds, and Romantics with the catchy refrain "We're gonna play nomatter what they say!" off of Maniacal Laughter |
Are you sure?

Oh, also, how about some classic old-skewl pop? Like Love Shack or Rock Lobster by the B52's? Istambul by They Might Be Giants? What about classic rock like Peace of Mind by Boston, or Teenage Wasteland by The Who (the Nissan-Not-That-You-Would-But-You-Could-car-polo commercial)? Techno is awesome, but playing nothing but techno is as bad as playing nothing but pop or playing the same song 5 times a day...

Well at KSC there was rap, sadly, and way too much disco:(
Occasionally there was some good rock, i did hear nirvana and like 2 decent trance songs but that was pretty much it. i think they need to play something that will stop us from covering our ears, or just idioticly swaying our shoulders between matches, like somthing that will have us goin until we vomit |
Hmm, I could have sworn I heard Crystal Method -- Name of the Game at UTC. Without the lyrics, of course.

My music
I hear all the music. So far, I've requested my MUST HAVE Linkin Park during our matches (I sing while driving the robot), I've heard Who lets the dogs out, Blink 182, Sum 41, Daft punk, STYX, Gorillaz, Hoobastank, and Queen. Thast all i can remeber right now, but if i watch the videos of the matches i could tell you a bunch

Mr. Ross' midi...
Mr. Ross, that was what seemed to me an odd midi of 'Eye of the Tiger'. Unique, in a sort of different way...

Anyway, I found another MIDI of Sirius. I can't vouch that it's 100% correct either, but I tend to think it's got to be closer than mine.;) <edit> You're right. I found Eye of the Tiger, and I had the two merged in my mind. </edit> |

Countdown
Does anyone remember the countdown "5,4,3,2,1" that they used to play prior to the opening ceremonies at FIRST?
They haven't played it for 2-3 years. It had incredible bass and always made my hair stand on end. It always got my adrenaline pumping. |

Err... I remember this...
Although I agree that there is a LOT <-- possibly too much --> pop played, It's generally acceptable to everyone. Remember that we're at a FIRST event at Disney, a public place with GRACIOUS PROFESSIONALISM in mind, and that there can't really be offensive music played.
This is something that I held close to when I was on 108 and we started the whole music-playing cart thing. Most of the other students on the team wanted offensive music with obscene lyrics on the cd. I know there are radio versions of these songs, and I told them that for the most part, as long as they got those versions, that would have been fine. Needless to say, they were lazy, didn't get that, and I got a lot of heat from them over it. But in my honest opinion, some music just CANT be played at nationals. Although I enjoy the song Bodies, I think it may be a bit much for the average person to listen to. And same goes for the Ruff Ryders anthem. I would also love for there to be more punk and ska, but punk can have some pretty offensive lyrics, and from what I hear from most people, ska is annoying (though I'm a total addict. the Toasters were just down my way recently. Squeal!) So not to pick on anyone in particular, I just wanted to get my couple of cents in. Oh, and who says there's too much disco played??? Lemme attem! Lemme attem! I'll claw thier eyes out with my big lapels and crush thier toes with my fish-tank platforms. Ooh Ooh, who's stayin alive now??? -Robby O Disco Diva and FIRSTanimators Moderator oshortwan@hotmail.com |
