What is this I hear about....a possible BBQ for those @ BattleCry after the competition??? Anymore word on this possability from the WPI camp?? I gotta say one of my favorite parts about Summer comps is the food. So far I like Mayhem's setup and Bash's setup the best. I hope Bash continues the tradtion of all u can eat free food that'd be nice :) :) :)

TechnoPig

I don't think any competition's food can beat the TechnoPig we got at IRI. Excellent BBQ pork

Technopig

I ate the Techonokats' mascot's leg.

I just can't help but remember the food at regionals, and nationals from last year (I didn't even attempt their food this year)...it was some nasty stuff. Just thinking about it...eww...

i found that the food was a bit too expensive for the likes of me...so me and my friends all went to a walmart (i think) that was across the street from our hotel and got food for the week

Lora Knepper 02-06-2001 13:40

The food at Nats wasn't that bad...the party anyway. I try to avoid the other food at the competitions...too expensive! Hey Tom...you have to admit that the food at the Meadows was horrible though...in 3 years it hasn't improved at all. Party is getting better though.

BCII

I can't speak for the staff of Battlecry, cause, well.. I'm not on it (for all of you who may wonder.. T190 splits up for BattleCry.. those who choose work staff, others work team.. and those of us on the team rarely no more than you guys!! :P)

In any case-- I've heard the BBQ rumor as well.. with all the talk of people waiting a dance etc.. I believe Jon and/or Kate brought it up to the staff and they are working on something like that.. there are a few teams traveling a bit of a ways (hello michigan :P)

As well-- we're still looking to organize a little CRUD with interested parties/teams/etcs if they let us know :)

Gompei2k1 will be ready for action for battlecry.. and we'll be looking forward to having you all at WPI!

See you at Mayhem next weekend :)

colleen

p.s. i didn't dare try the pig-- but i've got the picture!! (www.wpi.edu/~colleen/indiana.html)

you are right... the meadows food was... well lets just say our team made many burger king runs...

the battlecry food last year was probably the best food i've had at any competition... especially cause we got to sit outside and it was a really nice day... i'm used to being cramped in the pits and eating :)

hmm...

Well, like I said, I avoided the food this year at Nationals, I ate in EPCOT instead. But, I CAN speak about the regional food, and that stuff was nasty. Not as bad as last year though, then again, not much could be.

Actually, the Long Island Regional food was ok.. I'll eat most anything though, so I'm not the most steadfast critic.

Two quick thoughts, though.
1) Lunch was expensive at the Regional sites, and if you didn't pay for it or wait on the ridiculously long lines you had to go about ten hours until the team party without any food. (Luckily the Regional we went to was about ten minutes away from my house so I was able to fill up my backpack with about a hundred bottles of water every morning.)

2) Anyone for more vegetarian food at Nationals? With the lunch coupons I don't remember getting much that was edible at the big commisary tent behind Einstein besides hot dogs and hamburgers.

Food, WHAT FOOD?

I hardly ever ate when I was in a competition. When you're the person everyone is looking for, knows where everything is at, what is going on, and one of the drivers it's kinda hard to eat. I think I only ate lunch 3 or 4 times out of all 3 competitions that we went to. I actually loose weight during the robotics seasom. I'm not usually the person to skip a meal.

David, the 3 years I drove were the same for me...this year it was odd getting the chance to *gasp* plan lunch with people ;) Though for the NE Regional all I have to say is thank god for Bobcat Burger King runs!

I didn't eat much at nationals... I think I bought an ice cream once. Most of the stuff I ate I bought at my hotel, because the food at nats was so expensive.

At NYC, there was actually some pretty good food. There was a nice deli nearby with a great selection of things to choose from. If that doesn't work for you, there's several other Columbia dining places, although I didn't go to them. And of course, there's the thousands of restauraunts on Broadway.

A. Leese 04-06-2001 01:14

Concerning food at nats..I guess I'm one of the few people who really didn't eat the whole weekend. I would always be busy around lunch and would usually just skip it. Breakfast was always something at the hotel and dinner around 10 at night was something light. Oh well. I survived...but I do remember the food being good but expensive at previous nationals. Food at the KSC Regional was great..gotta love "Space Pizza"

Food at VCU

At VCU they tried something new this year. Each team could pre-order bag lunches. My opinion of the idea was varied. It was REALLY nice as a driver not having to wait in line for food (and being able to set it off to the side for later) but the quality/price weren't all that great. If I remember correctly, they were sandwiches with plain chips with some oreos on the side. I'd say the whole thing overall was a noble effort, but could use a lot of work. All imho.

Kickoff Food....

...I remember food at FIRST is awesome.

At the Women in Science & Technology Careers forum, they fed us real well. They have this great place near that caters using bag lunches.

They did that for all the volunteers at Kickoff on Friday, too. Saturday, though, was done by another bag lunch caterer, and it wasnt bad.

But nothing beats that place in Manchester that catered those 2 times. Anyone know the name of that company?

EddieMcD 03-07-2001 12:03

What we did at nats. was we had a few choices for sandwich, snack, & drink. A few of the parents that came with us made them, and we sat outside in the shade. The only thing I brought at nats. were those frozen drinks.

And then there was the epcot food...

Yeah, $10 for pizza, coke and a bag of chips. It wasn't that good either

EddieMcD 03-07-2001 12:22

No, I mean at the team party.

oohh, the team party food. I thought it was really good. Especially after you haven't eaten a single meal ALL day.

EddieMcD 03-07-2001 12:39

My thought's exactly.

My team did that at regionals...mainly b/c we had so many people who didn't stay the whole time, just came up for Saturday or whatever. We also had sodas in our pit that Momma Jones (long story on the nick) sold to us for something to another, which was nice. (BTW..Matt Leese..that soda sale is the reason I was able to bring you a cold Pepsi at nats) I wish we did something like that at nats. Then again, my team is usually too unorganized to do anything like that once we get to nats.
