Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!
That would rock! I'm sure I could talk team 250 into going to it. In fact tonight we are having a meeting, and I will raise the question and see what the interest is in such an event. With an off-season event so close (about 3 hours) I can't see us not going.

Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!
Hey Alex,
Nice job in getting people together... I told you " Ask and they will come!" We have a great community up here and I'm sure alot of the rookies this year who could not go to another competition would be willing to take another crack at it. Just have to figure in the time frame. Ellery |
Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!
I can give you some advice. For one; don't use the NASA field. You can get one directly from FIRST. They loan them out for free as long as you pay for insurance (which could be a few thousand dollars). You'd need a good tech crew but these new fields are a lot easier to manage than the old ones.
In case people have forgotten, I founded/organize/manage the Beantown Blitz in Boston. In 2003/2004 I ran around the country volunteering at events to specifically learn how they operated. I taught myself and I'd be willing to pass along what I learned to any other post-season event coordinators. Maybe we could arrange for a phone call. |

Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!
If I recall correctly, Dave Kelso and Libby Ritchie gave a presentation at last year's FIRST Robotics Conference on how to host an off-season event. Perhaps you should look into contacting either of them, or at the least take a look at their PowerPoint presentation.

Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!
i'll try to talk 1403 into it, we need some sponsors or contributors first, we're like broke :ahh:
but some stuff you may want to do: -create a brochure to handout at competition about it -make a website or a section of your website devoted to promoting it. -give us dates |

Let's not totally give up on this. Remember, you are not alone on this. There are many other teams locally. You don't need to shoulder this responsibility yourself. I am impressed you have carried it this far. I would love to see something in the fall. Something I could use to show new students what FIRST is all about. The fall is also a great time to work on getting those couple new Rookie schools interested in FIRST. We are hoping to add a couple more new teams to go along with all of the amazing Rookies from this year. Some local teams may want something in the fall to help them pull in funding from sponsors. I know most of this was taken care of at the Regional a few weeks ago but... a little more doesn't hurt. All I'm saying is, take a break until after the Championship. Enjoy the season while it is here. We can spend the whole summer planning something cool for the fall. That's just my thoughts/ramblings. |
Re: 2005 Rochester Off Season Competition!!!!
I would love to come down to this, just to see if I could drive with 1511 and 1559. You guys are awesome. But unfortunatley, I am already going to the Canada's wonderland off-season event, in which case, I will not be able to attend if this does pull through. If not, you guys should try to come to the wonderland off-season event. It's gonna be a blast! :)

Alex don't give up so soon, there are alot of people interested and i think with a group collaboration we will be able to pull this off. maybe what we should do is start a committee after nationals that will work logistics. different people are good at different things and i am sure with enough intelligent and dedicated people this is a very doable project for the September time frame. come find me at nationals and we can talk if you want, because i have a few ideas on how to manage this endeavor |
