Re: Phoenix update?
It appears to have been updated, but the matches are wrong. For example, look at SF 1-1, where an alliance playes itself.

Re: Phoenix update?
look at the finals where 1212 is vs 1212 so that makes very little sense to me. O well we will have to see when someone comes back from the regional.

Re: Phoenix update?
Well, I am quite annoyed at the
A. Weird formatting of the matches B. The fact that FIRST has not yet posted the awards, and C. That no one is home yet (curse my impatience). -Daniel |
Re: Phoenix update?
So who won the Az regional? Does anyone know considering people are posting scores from Az but no results on who won

It's been about 7 days since last week's regionals and most have no scores or match results. |
Re: Phoenix update?
The match results for phoenix are seriously messed up. It shows 980 (and their partners) winning two quarterfinal matches in a row, but it does not show them playing again after that. Someone from Cactus 498 is on right now, hopefully they'll discover this thread and post.

Re: Phoenix update?
I was at the Regional, so I'll post what I remember.
#1 at the end of qualifiers was 980 (Thunderbots) with a 9-3 record. There were 4 other teams also with 9-3 records (555, 842, 498, 1492) at the end, with rankings in that order. The other 3 in the top 8 were 991, 60, and I can't remember the other team. The Regional Champions were 1492, 555, and 1324. The other finalists were 987, 991, and 1212. The highest score at the Regional was 112 to 13, set by 498 (us), 1492, and 1290. Second highest was 84 set by 980, 498 (us), and 96. 842 won the Chairman's award. 60 won the Engineering Inspiration award. I thought the Regional was awesome, but we were doing pretty well, so that adds to it (we scored over 60 points in 4 of our matches). Don't believe alot of what is posted on FIRST about the Regional right now, the rankings and scores are way off on there. |

We did win 2 awards the first night though. Dr. Hobbs won the teacher of the year award. Hopefully this means he won't get fired for letting the team turn his classroom into a chaotic workshop of terror. I think a lot of non-robotics students were put off by the piles scrap metal and tetras covering their desks on Monday mornings. Here's my summary/commentary of the regional: 28 teams is small, but not too small! It seemed like we got to play with and/or against just about every team there. It was a lot of fun :) Also, in this game, only not planning an alliance strategy will hurt you. Despite treating our 2nd-to-last match no differently than any other, no amount of planning could stop us from being clobbered 112 to 13. Congrats to 498, our neighbors 1290, and the AZ Champions 1492 for capping all 9 goals before our eyes. That was the coolest match we've ever lost! :D I'd also like to point out that 1266, the Devil Duckies, had a really great robot this year. So good, every time they played they got hit hard and often by defensive teams, to the point where in one match their end zone was filled with their tetras from missed stack attempts due to interference. I think we all can understand how frustrating it can be when your team's robot is being knocked around and can't get anything accomplished in a match, over and over again. Despite this, their team stayed in high spirits and kept on adopting out their little duckies to everyone, and I really think they deserve a ton of recognition. They earned the sportmanship award more than any team I've ever seen in my three years in FIRST. Great job Duckies! I'd also also like to point out Team 1011, Team Crush, who despite not having a working robot for the last few prelims, remained very spirited in the center of the stands. In a regional with only 28 teams they made a positive impact on the atmosphere for everyone around them. Go Team Crush! |

Sounds great, I'm sorry I had to miss it.
Does anyone know if 294 won any awards? I can't get in contact with anybody, so I'm still in the dark. -Daniel |

There were definitely some scoring system anomalies at the Arizona Regional and the information being posted as of 3/12/2005 10:00EST is questionable. Here are some of the awards that Im aware of. Re: Phoenix update?
There was definitely something wrong with the scoring system at Phoenix. During a couple matches on Friday, the qualifying points awarded to us in the ranking system were the number of penalty points deducted from the other alliance's score. The pit admin (or whoever was doing the scoring) even told us at one point they couldn't do anything about it, even though it was seriously skewing the rankings. I think they eventually resolved it, but I am still not entirely confident with the final scores at the end of the qualifying matches.
Nonetheless, it was still a spectactular regional, and I would just like to thank our finalist partners 587 and 1212. I hope to play again with 587 in Vegas! The winning alliance was definitely impressive and they certainly displayed a lot of class by calling their timeout to allow 587 to fix their arm. It was an honor losing to them! |
Re: Phoenix update?
thanks for the shout-out 1212. we love the holy hamster!!! though we are 'sworn enemies.' lol. but hey, if our two mascots were to 'breed', what would we get out of it? hehe....ur team was awesome too!

Re: Phoenix update?
Would you become the horned hamsters, or the divine duckies? Nice job with that multiple capping arm, it worked nicely until everyone started to focus a robot on hitting yours the whole match.

Anyways, if our team is going to Phoenix next year, I won't make the same mistake twice. A thousand thanks to Don Knight for the award updates. -Daniel |
