Better check in with the Buckeye organizers. The last several years the team social was held at the Rock and Roll Hall. As an older mentor, I certainly enjoyed it. But some of you youngsters may well say "Who are these people?"

it was not the"who are these people" its more like "wow a car int he wall again, yay..." it is the same food/stuff every year we have gone to buckeye twice and this year we are trying not to go there because of the same stuff every year.

Check the info for Buckeye on the FIRST website and firstbuckeye.org. There will be no Team Social at the Rock Hall this year. However, I believe the Hall is helping organize the entertainment at the Wolstein (formerly the Convocation) Center. I'm not sure what specifically that will be.

They had a really good cover band called the Rock and Roll All-Stars play in 2002. I wouldn't mind seeing them again. They ain't no Dean Simmons, but since they will be busy elsewhere, I'll take what I can get.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but arent the FIRST socials about socializing with other FIRST teams? Not really about the location. I remember when I was in high school and the nationals social was ALWAYS at disney, and I had been to disney a bunch of times as a kid... it was pretty much always the same... but we went to hang out with the rest of the teams :)

Re: Buckeye!

day one of buckeye....

looks pretty good, large amount of teams actually on the field during the practise matches. i've noticed that teams with wider manipluators tend to do well

some teams worthy of notice:

67-That all wheel steering and maniplation helps a ton
229-perhaps the widest maniputlator i've ever seen, i think they may look up tommorow
48-with their man driver in france, they were training one all today, looked a bit disapointing but they will be good tommorow, its a great bot you just need to drive it right
135-my personal favorite, these guys with a crazy 6 pronged fork manipulator can fly at huge heights, at least 12 and are really fast at what they do definetly one of the top teams

well thats how they look like they are shaping up, we'll probably see a whole bunch of flying tetras and falling bots tommorow, there was a good amount today

Re: Buckeye!

it was crazy today, 135 in first place and we are in 4th(i believe). as usual 67 looks amazing but the story is 135 and 229 tearign it up out on the field. can't wait till tomrrow. we also won the radioshack innovation award, yay! some other awards are, Delphi ELITE won website, autodesk went to 135, and thats all i can remeber. tune into sunday or monday.

Word's in, 67, 274 & 279 won the Buckeye Regional in a close, 4 match final with 229, 135 and 1403. Match 1 was a tie, match 2 was a win by 67, 274 & 279, match 3 went to 229, 135 and 1403 and match 4 went 67, 274 & 279, giving them the win. Congrats to all finalist teams!

PS. Yay HOT on their second regional win of the year! (Sorry, HOT team alumni... ;))

First I would like to thank teams 67 and 274 for being great alliance partners.

67: We always do best when we are allied with you and together hold the high score records for both great lakes and buckeye. You have an awesome robot who can out manuever anybody out there and your arm's movement is just beautiful.

274: You were a very valuable member of our alliance. You covered our home row and protected it as good as anyone out there. You helped free up both us and 67 so we could achieve those spectacular scores. In that last match with you and 67 holding back 229 just out of reach of taking away two rows, just awesome work you guys.

To both teams it was great working with you and I can't wait to see you at Nationals.

I was a little excited from winning the regional this being my first year, but I believe that the Chairman's Award was 48, and the Engineering Inspiration was 141. All fixed now and congratulations to both teams on their accomplishments.

It was great playing you guys. If you noticed during the finals, we learned a little trick that the juggernauts used on us to protect that center goal. Sorry we had to give you guys a year you didn't win but you better make it the last time you lose buckeye. And maybe next time you can take us all the way with you.

I also have some pictures that I am going to post, but my dad took them so there aren't very good match pictures. And unfortunately I don't think he got any of the match between us.

I believe that we got tangled up and in the confusion they got knocked over. I know our drivers never intended to knock them over and from what I heard they went over and appoligized as soon as they could.

Congratulations to 279, 67, 274 on a hard fought victory!
You guys were great, and we had a lot of fun competing with and against you all weekend.

Some minor corrections to this thread:
For clarification... this is 229's second regional (not third).

Also... the "play by play" of the final wasn't quite right.
229/135/1403 won F1.
279/67/274 won F2 & F3.

Thanks to 135 and 1403 for working with us in the finals. We had a great time, and you were FANTASTIC partners. I hope you both have success at nationals!

Long Day... time for bed,
JV

Re: Buckeye!

First off - Congrats to everyone who went, especially the 279/67/274 alliance!

I, however am kind of disappointed... We were ranked 10th before being saddled with robots that were having LOTS of problems. Three matches went by like this and I think that we ended up in 36th. After we won our last three matches, we were back up the being ranked 14th. This is a BIG jump for just three matches. The kicker is that we weren't picked! now, I know that I'm a little bitter at losing :(, but I think that a few poor choices were made. I guess that all in all I was just wondering if people actually KNEW that we existed? And if so, were we hard to work with or something?

OH, I almost forgot, What was up with 229, 135 and 1403 running a capping robot as a defensive instead of going to the pool for a fully functional robot?

I dunno if this is right, but it is my opinion. During the Qualifying matches, 135 only lost twice, and those two losses were against an alliance with team 279 on it. After losing twice to us, they might have thought that they would do better blocking us and ramming us(which I was surprised wasn't called at all during the first match because those were full speed hits). Not sure if thats right, but it might be a factor in why they did it.

This could be... but the team they ran without the arm was being pushed all over the place, and I hate to brag, but we could Probably have pushed any team that was there backwards, and still cap better than 3/4 of the robots there, And we were first up in the pool.

Re: Buckeye!

Rolling Thunder had a great time at Buckeye. Our drivers are getting better and better with every match. We had a great record 7-3-0. We were hoping for a win at the end to be in the top 5 but it didn't work out Thanks to team 302 LOL you guys had us tipping like two or three times. Great D bot. Thats why we picked you guys.

we had great alliance partners. Thanks 302 and 931 you guys were awesome to work with. We had a good run but going against the number one alliance was tough. I am very proud of our team. We have been to two regionals and each time we have had the privilege to pick our alliance partners. I am glad we got past the quarter finials this time.

Thank you team 1126 for cheering us on you guys were awesome. SPARKS Commotion

To 229 your finial match was amazing to watch. I cant believe you guys didn't win. You guys were great. So sad we wont see you at Nationals. We were sad that you guys knocked us out and then we were right back hoping you guys would win the whole thing. Great finial to watch.

On behalf of 1511 I would like to congratulate 1590 on the Rookie All-Star award. See you at nationals.

Looking forward to Toronto next week and hoping we could do as well as we did at Buckeye. Cant wait to see our Waldo. We miss you guys

Again Buckeye was a great regional and i had a lot of fun. Congrats to all the winning alliances and see everyone at NATIONALS if not in Toronto.

1511 will be Rolling....................

I know for out team I was in charge of getting information on the set of teams you guys were in. Whenever I went by your guy's pit when I was looking for info on you I didn't see anyone in there. Now this might just be coincidence, or it may be a fault of mine, but having someone in your pit at all times paying attention to passerbys that look interested in your robot is something that we do and it seems to work very well for us. Now if you don't have someone to spare just make up an informational sheet to hand out and just leave a pile somewhere near the aisle way in clear view of someone that is interested. If you team did do all this them I apologize for not realizing it and not getting any information on you guys.

I would like to point out that nothing I posted was meant to be offensive, it was just MY opinion. I would also like to say that although others share my opinion, it was NOT THE OPINION of all of team 306. I also agree that 135 WAS one of the best robots at the competition, until their arm was DISABLED, when they were not, excuse me if I am wrong, but it seems that a tank with no turret is USELESS. I would appreciate if you would edit you're post to say CODY C instead of 306! and by the way, based on a qualifying match we had with you, what you told us to do WAS NOT what was best for the match.

And Quatitos, that was our fault, we did have booklets, but I guess that they were hidden under the mess :)...

Re: Buckeye!

First of all, a nice job to everyone who participated in the Buckeye Regional, winners and losers, there were some very interesting robots there. I'm proud of our team for doing as well as we did, especially since most of our team are sophomores and freshmen at our school. Nonetheless, we worked hard and brought out a very good robot, and we had no major problems at all in Cleveland. I do not really enjoy the Idea that although we did as well as we did despite our lack of experience, we were not picked. I realize that this may be due to a lack of need for a robot with our capabilities, but I find it very disconcerting that we were not picked. I also do not understand what was so offensive about my teammate's post, but if you were offended by it, please know that it is, as he said, not necessarily the opinion of all of team 306, and please accept both our apologies and those of our team. We all just find it hard to take that all of our hard work went down the drain even though we were well capable of doing what needed done. I also find it a little ironic that a good team at Pittsburgh recognized us when we kept breaking down, but at Cleveland we left on the side when we were without problems at all. And also, lack of planning on our part for the pits thing. We did have a bit of a pamphlet describing the team and our past accomplishments, but it was probably, as Cody said, buried beneath the mess

And once again, congrats to all, and especially the winning alliance and team 279. I was rooting for you guys since a third of the way through the qualifying matches.

I believe I may have found that pamphlet, but did not find any hard facts about your robot that I could use for scouting information. The stuff you had in there was wonderful, but it just needed some facts and information about your robot and strategy. Also, updating your website with the facts about your robot before hand can also help. I know the people in charge of scouting for our team went to every teams website and found as much imformation on there as they could then left the rest to be filled in.

Okay, I feel the need to step in here.

I really believe that we should be striving for a FIRST community where we all show respect for each other. Coming out and calling a team "USELESS" is blatantly rude. Especially considering the team played some admirable defense after losing the usage of their arm.

I'm glad to know that you're confident in the abilities of your robot. That being said, there's no need to come in here, insult other teams and complain about not being chosen. We all know the feelings of being left out of the elimination rounds (Well, other than those few teams who've never missed out). It's not fun. But dwelling on the situation in such a negative manner is not going to help.

Umm, from the results at usfirst.org it seems that you only played one match with 229, and you guys won 45-21.

This is not right back and forth arguing about who got picked and who didnt. Team 135 was one of the best teams at Buckeye and they did the best they could after their arm failed.

306 you guys did a great job as well. There is no need to insult another teams performence. There were many good teams that did not get picked for the elemination rounds. I dont remember you guys ever coming and talking to us about your robot. You guys needed to do a better job at selling your self to other teams.

We should all be proud of one anothers acomlishments and not be arguing about who should and shouldnt have been picked.

HOLD UP!!!!!!!!!!!

The tank without a turret was an analogy , I WAS NOT INSULTING THEIR ROBOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DO Admire their ability to play such good defence after having been offensive the whole regional.
I am simply saying that if the red alliance had had a robot that could stack, they would have had a better chance at winning!!!!!!!!!
The BEST aircraft in the world can have ONE broken thing and become "useless" for it's intended purpose (please don't take that as an insult)
As I said above, I AM bitter about not being picked and being 14th, but I'm not Knocking anyone's bot and/or team.

also, the reason we did so well in that matchis BECAUSE we did not play defence and protect them like they wanted.

Just a quick question, but what was wrong with 135's lift? I thought I saw them using it during the finals.

Also, can we please stop this argument. I mean can we be mature enough to atleast ignore something if we don't agree with it instead of starting an argument.

135 had 2 FP motors powering their lift.
They burned the brush assemblies on one of them, thus cutting their power input in half. This meant, they could use the lift, but not when there was a tet on it.

For nationals, I've heard they are moving the 2 FP motors into their drivetrain, and replacing them with 2 chips. This great team will only get better. :)

It should be noted, our strategy was ALWAYS for 135 to play defense against the 67/279 alliance; even BEFORE their lift burnt out. This WAS the smart move, as evidenced by Final Match #1.

yar. Their mast had the same problem ours had had earlier in the day I THINK...
it depends on what kind of lubricant they used, but if they used a dry one like graphite, it can bunch up on the aluminum and cause problems for any lift. all they need to do is run it up and scrub it down with Brillo pads to smooth everything out, or at least that is all WE needed to do.

EDIT: I guess he would know better than I about their problem, disregard my answer

thats will be crazy! i was looking at the way it goes up and i was amazed the effectiveness of the fp's, now that they will be going to chip's just means more power!

Well I hope they are able to get that all working before the matches start.

I don't know if what other people saw, but when I saw 135 defending against 279, I saw full speed ramming, over and over. It wasn't until the second match where these illegal moves had an effect on us though, which resulted in a penalty and sent a message to 135 that what they were doing wasn't right. In the third match the defense from 135 was the best defense they could do while keeping it legal. Their going for our tetras in that last match was a great idea and I believe they realized that the ramming was something they shouldn't have kept doing.

Thanks to team 279 for picking us up and to 274 for being an awesome diamond in the rough!
I had a great time operating 67's arm out there.
Good job to 229, 135, and 1403; it was was an awesome finals!

Now if you don't have someone to spare just make up an informational sheet to hand out and just leave a pile somewhere near the aisle way in clear view of someone that is interested. If you team did do all this them I apologize for not realizing it and not getting any information on you guys.

Well, they we out their, perhaps covered by something though. As far as the people in the pits go, even though this is our responsibility, we have a very small team, and we have troubles keeping someone in the stands, scouting, cheering, and running the bot. However, myself and our other operator had already spoken with your drivers. Perhaps we missed your chain of decisions. Maybe paper is important.

Yea that last match we had in the finals we scored 2 or 3 tetras then waiting for 279 to fill up and we went to stop them aparently hold our arm over top of them from the side dosent work all that we'll well atleast it looked like it did then they decided to go backwards to get out and our gripper somehow got caught up in there and dragged us there for a sec till we fell... i knew knocking the tetras outa your holder was a better idea but hey good matches no harm were still run just as good...but man was it amazing match the one we tied on... yea stealing our strats =p it was a good one tho be shure to use it in the finals mabye side bye side huh =p see ya

wow what a great competition.

229 and 135 thanks for picking us at 1403 soo much, it was an honor to compete with you guys. I really hope 229 gets into Atlanta, they truly deserve the spot. I hope we can all compete together again.

279, 67, 274 that well played you guys earned your way to the top, congratulations.

also congrats to 48 on their chairman's award.

Re: Buckeye!

First off I'd like to thanks all the teams at Buckeye for a very well played and challenging regional. It seemed much more difficult than Ypsi... I'm not sure I like the reason why ( there was a lot of 'battle-botting' going on  ), but it was fun none-the-less. Secondly I'd like to thank team 279 for allowing us to join their alliance, and team 274 for keepin' that home-row! Most of the finals matches were good clean games, and I liked that.

I didn't like, however, how lax the calls for some of the more major penalties were... ramming and pinning seemed to go un-noticed by the officials, especially in the finals. But, I guess as one mentor on our team put it "Its like hockey... they lay off the penalties in the finals just to keep the flow going."

Anyway, congrats to everyone and see you at Allensdale!
