Thanks a ton guys!!! Those are some great shots!
Looks like team 71 has come up with a pretty powerful design once again. Can they use both the human and auto loader? Also, I noticed they store tetras right there on the front of their bot -- has anyone knocked them off before they've been able to stack them on a goal? |

Re: The Search for 111 & 71
What I want to see happen to 71 or even 469 is for an opposing team to put one of their tetras on top, what would they do then? :D

I can't wait to see how these guys perform, it's a really interesting design and it seems people have mostly been very impressed with it. They did win Boilermaker and someone said they were voted "Best Offensive Robot" at that competition (I'm not sure who actually set up the vote, not FIRST obviously). In any case, photos like these just make me all the more anxious to go to nationals. |

Re: The Search for 111 & 71
I had discussed capping a robot that stored tetras on it's base with some people at the UTC regional. I wasn't going to say anything here, because it would work so much better against a team who isn't expecting it and I had already told a few people. If it was unexpected, I think it would be a worthwhile move on some of the robots that do this, however, Beatty would have been harder to cap than the original robot I saw that did this because Beatty's stack is always in the front of their bot with their arm behind it. The robot I saw at UTC capped with it's arm on the side of the robot closest to the goal, so you could come up from behind while they were capping a goal and cap thier remaining stack.

Re: The Search for 111 & 71
The team 71 bot was our alliance teammate in the Boilermaker Regional.
They have a strafing drivesystem that is very manueverable but can be a bit tippy due to its large arm. Its arm contains a 3 prong claw at the end with a circular rim around it that is attached to the arm. They just put the rim around the tetras that it holds on its base and picks up 2 at a time. It is a very innovative design and also won a few awards. BTW, that picture is from the final round of the Boilermaker Finals. Somehow, we still ended up winning. It was pretty funny when their battery fell out and they were riding on it. Also, it would be almost impossible to put a tetra on theirs because they keep their arm relativly close to or on their stack of tetras. 71 - 1024 - 269 Taking Home the Gold March 19, 2005 P.S. I want to say thanks to everyone who competed at the Boilermaker Regional for being such good competitions. I know I made some new friends and overall, you all made it a great expierience. |
