I just found another good one of 111 on the field after one of their matches.

Here is one of 71 falling:

Does anyone have one of 71 riding on their battery

Thanks a ton guys!!! Those are some great shots!

Looks like team 71 has come up with a pretty powerful design once again. Can they use both the human and auto loader? Also, I noticed they store tetras right there on the front of their bot -- has anyone knocked them off before they've been able to stack them on a goal?

71 could probably use the autoloader if they just wanted to grab one tetra, but they don't. They use the human loaders and usually put four on before going out to score. It's incredibly hard to knock tetras off of them, but it has been done. They have a lip in the front of the robot or something that stops tetras from falling off if they're hit from behind. And on the sides they have their stablizers. Many teams try to just knock their tetras off by hitting the tetras with their arms. Many times robots would get hooked onto their tetras, which would make 71 unable to lift them from thier robot.

What I want to see happen to 71 or even 469 is for an opposing team to put one of their tetras on top, what would they do then? :D

I can see it now: a new strategy in our playbook -- "Cap the Capper".

I can't wait to see how these guys perform, it's a really interesting design and it seems people have mostly been very impressed with it. They did win Boilermaker and someone said they were voted "Best Offensive Robot" at that competition (I'm not sure who actually set up the vote, not FIRST obviously). In any case, photos like these just make me all the more anxious to go to nationals.

This might actually become possible - remember last year when teams would cap the giant basket robots designed to catch balls? It usually worked.

Re: The Search for 111 & 71

I had discussed capping a robot that stored tetras on it's base with some people at the UTC regional. I wasn't going to say anything here, because it would work so much better against a team who isn't expecting it and I had already told a few people. If it was unexpected, I think it would be a worthwhile move on some of the robots that do this, however, Beatty would have been harder to cap than the original robot I saw that did this because Beatty's stack is always in the front of their bot with their arm behind it. The robot I saw at UTC capped with it's arm on the side of the robot closest to the goal, so you could come up from behind while they were capping a goal and cap thier remaining stack.

The team 71 bot was our alliance teammate in the Boilermaker Regional.

They have a strafing drivesystem that is very manueverable but can be a bit tippy due to its large arm. Its arm contains a 3 prong claw at the end with a circular rim around it that is attached to the arm. They just put the rim around the tetras that it holds on its base and picks up 2 at a time. It is a very innovative design and also won a few awards.

BTW, that picture is from the final round of the Boilermaker Finals. Somehow, we still ended up winning.

It was pretty funny when their battery fell out and they were riding on it.

Also, it would be almost impossible to put a tetra on theirs because they keep their arm relativly close to or on their stack of tetras.

P.S. I want to say thanks to everyone who competed at the Boilermaker Regional for being such good competitions. I know I made some new friends and overall, you all made it a great expierience.

The best strategy I saw was for a team to wait for Team 71 to load up the tetras and when they are not paying attention, take or knock the tetras off their base. You have to be discrete in dong this as they can place their arm on their tetra stack and basically clamp them in place and prevent any movement of the tetra stack.

Good luck and remember.........you didn't hear it from me.

It's been done, but their response is to just grab the top tet and fling it away. It comes down to what is more important? Costing 71 a few seconds in a match, or placing that tet on a goal and getting 3 pts.

P.S. as a driver for team 537, I got lots of first hand contact with both teams at Midwest. WOOT WOOT.
